CAMILE

Brandon was waiting for me as soon as I walked out of the training grounds; there was a cold look on his face as he peeked into the room.

Brandon looked back at me a few seconds later, a new appreciation in his eyes, and I smiled.

I was sure that, just like everyone else, he thought that I wouldn't be able to handle those men.

"What? Did you think that they were going to overpower me?" I asked him, a smile on my face.

"Those men have a strong sense of pride. They definitely wouldn't have liked listening to a woman from a rival pack....how did you do it?" Brandon asked me, a hint of suspicion in his tone.

I shook my head, realizing that no matter what I did, his guard would always be up around me.

"It's no big deal; I just let them see what's important. Besides, I have been dealing with tough men like them for a long time. They definitely wouldn't be able to overpower me," I said

Brandon gave it up when he saw that he was not going to get anything out of me.

"The Alpha is asking for us," he informed me, a bit warmly this time.

....

"You mean you were able to convince them to change the patrol routes? They really listened to you?" Vance asked, an eyebrow raised.

He seemed genuinely surprised with what I had done, and he was obviously happy with my achievements; however, I could still tell from his gaze that he was holding back.

"Yes, I would very much like it if I were the one in charge of the change of routes. It would be best since I was the one who brought up the idea, and I have a stronger plan than anyone else," I made my demands.

I was expecting vance to agree, but then, he looked away uneasily.

I frowned as I realized that even he did not fully trust me.

It stung, but the fact that I used to be Trevor's woman was not something that I could get rid of so easily.

The identity was stamped on me, and even though he tried to kill me, I was always seen as his woman, the person who used to help him in his attacks.

"Well, it's a good thing that they were willing to take your suggestion; however, there have been complaints from the elders. They definitely are not happy with how much power you have in the pack, and I think it's best we tone it down for now!" He said.

I smiled; there was nothing else that I could do or say. Letting go was the best course of action here.

"I understand," I said and turned to walk out.

I would have to find another way to convince Vance to let me have more power.

.....

Returning to my bedroom, I let out a sigh. I needed some rest before I would think about my next course of action.

Although I was helping Vance's pack, the truth was, I was all alone here, and I knew that I would be sacrificed in a heartbeat if it came down to protecting the pack.

While helping Vance, I also needed to figure out a way to protect myself.

I was about to get on my bed when I saw something, something that I hadn't seen in a long time!

At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but as I picked it up, I realized that I had not been mistaken at first.

It indeed was an old symbol of Trevor, something that he had not used in a long time!

My heart raced fast against my chest; although Trevor had not used it in a while, it belonged to him alright.

It was an image of an eagle , and it was one of his numerous means of communication.

Only the people closest to him could get this....and if this was in my bedroom....it meant that Trevor still had his people inside this pack!

Gretchen had already been caught, so who else could it be? I had a lot of questions, but no answers for them.

I rushed out of my bedroom, and I looked around, trying to pinpoint the person that had dropped this in my bedroom.

I watched the guards and maids as they went back and forth.... I looked closely for anyone who looked at me weird, for anyone whose gaze lingered on mr for more than a few seconds, but even after half an hour, I still could not figure out anything.

I knew that I could not continue to stay still like this.

The pack had been compromised; besides Gretchen, Trevor had another spy of his here.

In fact, there might just be more than one of his spies!

.....

"Camile, the Alpha just spoke with you, and he has already made his decision. I don't know...." Brandon was trying to stop  when I pushed past him and pushed my way into Vance's study.

Before Brandon could follow me in, I shut the door in his face.

Vance looked up at me, a worried look on his face. It was mixed with a hint of guilt, but I didn't have the time to decipher his emotions right now.

"Is there something wrong, Camile?" Vance asked me as calmly as he could.

"Your pack has been compromised. You need to rebuild the ranks from the inside....There might just be more than one of his spies here," I said without much emotion.

Vance got up as soon as I said this.

He shook his head slowly, unwilling to accept this bit of information.

"No...no...that isn't true...that just isn't true...the pack...it's difficult to get in..."

"Obviously, Trevor has been planning this for the longest time. You need to find out who has been acting suspiciously lately. I believe...there's definitely more than one spy in this place. It wasn't just Gretchen!" I declared.

VANCEI kicked the man in the stomach and he rolled over on the ground, in pain. Before he could escape, I placed my feet on his chest, and I took the list from him. "Give it to me! You're not qualified to touch that!" The man screamed at me. I signalled at one of the guards with me and he promptly held down the man. "Is it that Trevor is unafraid of death? You are all unafraid of death? He actually sent you, a scout, to our border, to check what we are up to?" I asked the man , a sneer on my face. He was one of Trevor's scouts that we had caught near our border, and this time, I was able to catch him before he killed himself. "Hmph! Do you think you are impressive just because you caught me?" He sneered at me. I scoffed, not wanting to waste my time on him. The only reason he was still alive and running his mouth was because of the list I had on him. "What list is this?" I asked the man, as I opened it. "It's a list of all of the people who deserve to die! The people who hav

CAMILE My eyes snapped open at once, and it was like they had never been closed in the first place. I looked around me, and I instantly realized that I was not in the bedroom that I had grown used to over the last couple of weeks. However, I was still in the castle; the lush gardens just outside the window reminded me of that. "You are awake," I heard, and turned sharply. A smiling old man dressed in white was looking at me, a knowing look on his face. Judging by how I had passed out, I had a good guess who this person was. "You are the healer?" I asked him. The healer nodded his head, and he took my hand. "Your pulse is normal," he noted. However, just then, I felt a sharp pain in my head, and the same voice that I had heard before I had passed out sounded in my head again. "It's not just you anymore," I was even more bewildered. What did this mean?"Your pulse is fine, however, your body has been restless ever since you passed out," the healer said, still holding on to my

VANCECamile had a shocked look on her face as we walked out of the dungeon, and I felt hesitant to ask her what was going on The traitor had accused her of defecting and being crazy ...and I really could not understand what those words meant. It didn't make much sense to me at all. "Camile ...what was the meaning of that?" Finally, Brandon was the one who asked the question I had on my mind. Camile turned to me, a pale look on her face. She seemed really worried about something, and this was the first time I had seen her like this ever since all of this started. Camile always seemed to be so in control of her emotions, thinking before acting, but this time, she seemed pretty shaken by what the traitor had said. "Camile?" I called her name. ."Trevor....he is spreading lies about me ...no, he has been spreading lies about me ....ever since you kidnapped me years ago...." Camile said, shaking her head. I hung my head in shame when she brought up how I kidnapped her years ago. I

CAMILE I had no idea how much time had passed, but Vance and I sat in his study, each lost in our own thoughts. Vance had sent Brandon to investigate, and I was not willing to leave till I got the result of the investigation. If Trevor sent that symbol to me, then it just meant that the spy in this pack was someone that held a high rank in Trevor's army. It wasn't something like Gretchen, who could be abandoned once she was no longer useful. Finally, Brandon arrived, a bitter look on his face. He glanced at me, for only a split second, before he started reporting to Vance. Brandon whispered something to him, and I rolled my eyes. After everything that I had done and was still doing, these people were still guarded against me. Did I need to give my life for them to know that I was serious about helping them fight Trevor?Vance nodded his head at Brandon, and then he looked at me. "Brandon says that one of the guards was seen meeting with someone by the river. However, this isn

CAMILE. "What? Are we expected to accept it just because the alpha said so?" One of the elders raged. "Yes, we still don't trust this woman. No matter what, we can't leave the survival of our pack up to her. I am personally not going to stand for it!" Another voice added. I was starting to get a headache. Did these old men really have to be so difficult? What was the point of making things hard on themselves and everyone else? "I don't..... I don't think it's such a bad idea to have her do this....Camile recently found a spy that is working for Trevor. It's a maid who has been in the castle for a long time. If it wasn't for her...well, we don't know how long we'd have let her be without knowing who she was," one of the guards spoke up. "Yes...last night when she asked me to go after the intruder...I was shocked at first, but then I realized that there was indeed an intruder in the castle ...how many times has someone sneaked into the castle without us knowing about it?
