VANCE

Camile had a shocked look on her face as we walked out of the dungeon, and I felt hesitant to ask her what was going on

The traitor had accused her of defecting and being crazy ...and I really could not understand what those words meant.

It didn't make much sense to me at all.

"Camile ...what was the meaning of that?" Finally, Brandon was the one who asked the question I had on my mind.

Camile turned to me, a pale look on her face. She seemed really worried about something, and this was the first time I had seen her like this ever since all of this started.

Camile always seemed to be so in control of her emotions, thinking before acting, but this time, she seemed pretty shaken by what the traitor had said.

"Camile?" I called her name. .

"Trevor....he is spreading lies about me ...no, he has been spreading lies about me ....ever since you kidnapped me years ago...." Camile said, shaking her head.

I hung my head in shame when she brought up how I kidnapped her years ago.

I had always felt guilty for not confirming before attacking her back then.

"Why are you bringing that up again? You...."

"Didn't you hear what that person said? He said that I was defecting and betraying Trevor. Just like last time. He said that I am losing my mind. Just like last time. Do you not understand what those words mean? When you first kidnapped me, Trevor made it seem like I had run away....like I was betraying you....and this time...he made it seem like I was doing the same thing again. Betraying him and defecting to your side. Trevor is trying to paint me as a crazy woman so that my words won't be trusted no matter what!"

Camile looked straight into my eyes as she said this, and I realized just how serious all of this was.

The plan was to get Camile back so that she could expose Trevor in front of the council.

But if they all thought that she was a crazy woman who was not in control of her actions then....

I shuddered in fear just thinking about it. Trevor truly was a sinister and dark man!

"What are we going to do?" Brandon asked with a tone of urgency.

He, too had realized just how bad this situation was for all of this.

A smile formed on Camile's face, and she was back to her usual calm self.

She seemed to have thought of a method to deal with Trevor.

"Since he wants to make me out to be crazy...why don't I play along with him? It's always better to beat him at his own games, what do you think?" Camile asked, a sinister smile on her face.

I shook my head immediately. I had no idea how this was going to turn out, and I didn't want her to endanger herself.

"No, if the pack thinks that you're losing it...."

"Vance, you're the Alpha of this pack, so I trust that you will be able to keep your pack in control, right?" She raised an eyebrow at me, and I realized that her words weren't just a question; it was a challenge.

I am the alpha , couldn't I even do this?

"Camile...."

I tried to reach out to her, but she pushed me away roughly.

"Don't touch me! I already told you that I want to be the one in charge of the patrols! I came up with the plan! Why are you pushing me aside?! Are you telling me that I am working so hard for your pack just so be sidelined all the time?!" Camile yelled at me.

She made sure her voice was loud enough so anyone passing could hear, and she raised her eyebrows arrogantly.

I realized that Camile had started her acting, but I had no idea what I was supposed to do.

"Camile you...."

"Ha! You know, I don't have to do this right?! I am helping you, and the last you and your pack can do is show a bit of appreciation, instead of treating me like the enemy all the damn time! In fact, I should just leave. I will get more respect outside of this place!" Camile continued to snap at me.

A lot of the maids and guards gave her dirty looks as they walked past her, however, Camile did not mind.

This was exactly what she wanted, after all.

"Camile please, we can talk about this in private," I said, getting into character with her.

"Forget it, I don't see why I have to waste my time with an ungrateful bunch like you!" She snapped one more time.

Then, after throwing a dirty look at me, Camile turned and walked away.

Brandon and I shared a helpless look, unsure of how to handle this situation.

Camile , however, had barely taken a few steps away from us when she fell to the ground with a large thud.

"Camile!" I was by her side in no time.

"Camile!" I shouted her name once again as I tried to help her up.

Camile's hands were filled with blood, and her eyes were hollow and empty, and it seemed as if she had been possessed by something.

"It's...it's not just you anymore...." She muttered before she passed out.

I looked up at Brandon, who had a pale look on his face.

"What are you waiting for?! Quick, go get the healer!"

......

Camile lay on the bed in the healer's quarters, an uneasy look on her face, and I sat by her side, unwilling to leave .

I had no idea how long I had been sitting here for, and I didn't even want to leave.

I just knew that I could not leave Camile while I was still unsure of what was going on with her.

I looked at the healer, who was still checking her pulse.

"Have you found anything?" I asked urgently.

The healer shook his head and I snapped.

"What do you mean you haven't found anything?! For goodness' sake, she looks so restless! She's obviously not fine!" I complained.

The healer looked up at me. "Her pulse is fine... but I have a feeling that this has something to do with her inner energy... We can only know for sure when she's woken up" he declared.

....

I was still sitting by Camile's side long after the healer was gone.

I just could not bring myself to leave her. Not even when the healer did not know what the heck was wrong with her.

How was I supposed to leave?

I thought about the words that Camile had said before she passed out.

"It's not just you anymore." what was that supposed to mean?

It had been obvious that she was referring to herself, but I could not understand what she meant.

Was she referring to a pregnancy, a vision, or even a trauma?

It was just so confusing.

The door was pushed slightly open , and a distraught Brandon walked in.

"Didn't I tell you that I didn't want to be disturbed?" I asked him coldly.

"I'm sorry, sir, I didn't want to come here either, but ...a very important scout has gone missing near the north border!”

VANCEI kicked the man in the stomach and he rolled over on the ground, in pain. Before he could escape, I placed my feet on his chest, and I took the list from him. "Give it to me! You're not qualified to touch that!" The man screamed at me. I signalled at one of the guards with me and he promptly held down the man. "Is it that Trevor is unafraid of death? You are all unafraid of death? He actually sent you, a scout, to our border, to check what we are up to?" I asked the man , a sneer on my face. He was one of Trevor's scouts that we had caught near our border, and this time, I was able to catch him before he killed himself. "Hmph! Do you think you are impressive just because you caught me?" He sneered at me. I scoffed, not wanting to waste my time on him. The only reason he was still alive and running his mouth was because of the list I had on him. "What list is this?" I asked the man, as I opened it. "It's a list of all of the people who deserve to die! The people who hav

CAMILE My eyes snapped open at once, and it was like they had never been closed in the first place. I looked around me, and I instantly realized that I was not in the bedroom that I had grown used to over the last couple of weeks. However, I was still in the castle; the lush gardens just outside the window reminded me of that. "You are awake," I heard, and turned sharply. A smiling old man dressed in white was looking at me, a knowing look on his face. Judging by how I had passed out, I had a good guess who this person was. "You are the healer?" I asked him. The healer nodded his head, and he took my hand. "Your pulse is normal," he noted. However, just then, I felt a sharp pain in my head, and the same voice that I had heard before I had passed out sounded in my head again. "It's not just you anymore," I was even more bewildered. What did this mean?"Your pulse is fine, however, your body has been restless ever since you passed out," the healer said, still holding on to my

CAMILE I had no idea how much time had passed, but Vance and I sat in his study, each lost in our own thoughts. Vance had sent Brandon to investigate, and I was not willing to leave till I got the result of the investigation. If Trevor sent that symbol to me, then it just meant that the spy in this pack was someone that held a high rank in Trevor's army. It wasn't something like Gretchen, who could be abandoned once she was no longer useful. Finally, Brandon arrived, a bitter look on his face. He glanced at me, for only a split second, before he started reporting to Vance. Brandon whispered something to him, and I rolled my eyes. After everything that I had done and was still doing, these people were still guarded against me. Did I need to give my life for them to know that I was serious about helping them fight Trevor?Vance nodded his head at Brandon, and then he looked at me. "Brandon says that one of the guards was seen meeting with someone by the river. However, this isn

CAMILE Brandon was waiting for me as soon as I walked out of the training grounds; there was a cold look on his face as he peeked into the room. Brandon looked back at me a few seconds later, a new appreciation in his eyes, and I smiled. I was sure that, just like everyone else, he thought that I wouldn't be able to handle those men. "What? Did you think that they were going to overpower me?" I asked him, a smile on my face. "Those men have a strong sense of pride. They definitely wouldn't have liked listening to a woman from a rival pack....how did you do it?" Brandon asked me, a hint of suspicion in his tone. I shook my head, realizing that no matter what I did, his guard would always be up around me. "It's no big deal; I just let them see what's important. Besides, I have been dealing with tough men like them for a long time. They definitely wouldn't be able to overpower me," I said Brandon gave it up when he saw that he was not going to get anything out of me. "The Alpha

CAMILE. "What? Are we expected to accept it just because the alpha said so?" One of the elders raged. "Yes, we still don't trust this woman. No matter what, we can't leave the survival of our pack up to her. I am personally not going to stand for it!" Another voice added. I was starting to get a headache. Did these old men really have to be so difficult? What was the point of making things hard on themselves and everyone else? "I don't..... I don't think it's such a bad idea to have her do this....Camile recently found a spy that is working for Trevor. It's a maid who has been in the castle for a long time. If it wasn't for her...well, we don't know how long we'd have let her be without knowing who she was," one of the guards spoke up. "Yes...last night when she asked me to go after the intruder...I was shocked at first, but then I realized that there was indeed an intruder in the castle ...how many times has someone sneaked into the castle without us knowing about it?
