Amaya
Shit. I woke up today thinking that I'll be able to have a full day of relaxation but that's unfortunately not the case. When I opened my phone to check the notifications I got during the night. I saw the reminder that the due date to send in my book to my editor was today. Dammit, I'm not even close to finishing this book.
I suddenly regret the choice I made to use up a whole night's worth of work only to rewatch the whole Hunger Games series even though I've already watched it.
I'm really not the one to respect due dates or be on time for anything. If you ask all of my teachers from high school, they would confirm it in a heartbeat.
It's just this time is more serious. It's the first book that I would've been publishing. I've had this passion for writing ever since I was a young teenager. I only got the idea of actually publishing my work recently. This book could've been a success because I personally think that my plot is great and original but I totally blew it.
Great job Amaya.
It's not too late though. My due date is not until 7 p.m. and it is now nine in the morning. If I work my fingers fast enough, I could maybe finish by then. Okay, but for that to happen, I need zero distractions. God knows how easily distracted I get.
I quickly hopped out of my bed to fetch my laptop which was silently resting on my desk beside me.
Okay Amaya you got this.
As soon as I opened my laptop my phone rang. The caller ID indicated that it was my best friend Destiny calling. Of course, I picked up.
"Hey, bestie what's up," I answered.
"Nothing much, just calling to ask if you got plans for tonight. I was thinking we could go to the club."
"Nope, no plans whatsoever." There was dead silence after what I said. I figured that Destiny saw through my lie. She knows how much of a procrastinator I am.
"I'm gonna take that for a no. Never mind I asked. We can go another time." It was worth I try.
"Yeah sure." We said our goodbyes and hung up. Well, I guess I'm stuck with finishing my book again.
***
It's now lunchtime and my tummy has been grumbling nonstop for a couple of minutes. I think it's time for a well-deserved meal.
I made sure to save my work before logging off of my laptop. I then made my way down to the kitchen. Both of my parents were sitting already eating.
"Jeez, thanks for inviting me to have lunch with you guys," I grumbled. How rude of them to serve themselves and not even ask me if I wanted anything.
"Sorry honey, I passed by your room and saw you were so focused and I didn't want to bother you." I know it's kinda weird that I'm twenty-five and still living with my parents but it's not my fault. I don't really want to live on my own. I don't know what's the excitement of living on your own and being independent. To me, it just means more responsibility. Like who the fuck would want to pay bills and all. The way I see it is that leaving with my parents for the longest while possible would save me more money since my parents are the ones who are paying the bills in this house.
"Mhm," I opened the fridge and scanned its contents. I got frustrated when I didn't see anything I felt like eating. I'm craving something with a huge amount of calories.
"Mom I'm going to McDonald's"
"Okay but your dad and I might not be here when you come back because we need to go shopping for some furniture."
"Got it." I grabbed my keys and was out the door. The McDonald's is just a few turns away from my house. I felt like eating a Double Big Mack. I wasn't kidding when I said I wanted to eat a lot of calories.
I pulled up at the fast-food restaurant and went through the drive-through. Shit, this is gonna take an eternity.
***
I was so relieved when I made it back to my house. I could finally eat. As told, my parents weren't home. Perfect.
"Hey G****e, play Jalebi Baby by Tesher." The music started blasting through the speaker making me sway my hips a little while climbing the stairs.
As I placed my food on my desk, I spotted my laptop in the corner.
"Shit," I murmured to myself while glancing at the time. My procrastination really goes far.
Only when I was seated and ready to eat, I spotted an unfamiliar object laying on my bed. Taking a closer look at it I noticed it was an old-looking book. A brown plain cover with old crispy paper that looks like it could break with one touch.
Why the hell is this on my bed? It isn't mine. Assuming it must belong to my mother, I placed it on my shelf next to my other books and made a mental note to give it back to her.
***
I finished my food and now I was bloated. Maybe going full-on with calories wasn't a smart idea.
I was now trying to finish my book in order to send it to my editor but I really don't see that happening.
Finally accepting my fate, I grabbed my phone and dialed Giselle's number. She picked up right away probably thinking I was calling to tell her that I finished my book.
"Hey Amaya, how are you?"
"I'm great Giselle thanks. Look I'm calling to inform you that I won't be able to send you my book for today. I'm really sorry." A long silence followed after. Shit, I hate disappointing people, the guilt I have right now.
"Okay, I'm gonna make a proposition just for this time. I'll give you three extra months to finish whatever the fuck you need to do but no more chances after this. Do you get me, Amaya?"
"Y-yes ma'am."
"I'm only giving you this chance because I know the potential you have."
"Yes, ma'am I really appreciate that," I said while smiling widely not able to contain my excitement. I'm really grateful for this second chance I having. I'll make sure to not mess this up again.
We said our goodbyes and I returned to my laptop. I took a good look at it and then I deleted all of my work.
I feel like a second chance needs a second start. I'll rewrite the whole thing. A complete new plot and storyline and everything. She gave me three months so I have enough time for this.
As I was starting to organize my story I heard this strange noise. As if something was shaking furiously. I turned my head to the sound trying to see if something was shaking. Something was indeed shaking. It was the old book that was on my bed minutes ago.
The longer I was staring at the object that was moving on its own, the more frightened I was getting. I then heard the sound of glass breaking coming from downstairs.
That was my cue to go hide under my blanket. There's no way in hell that I was going to check out what the hell is going on. I wasn't like those people in horror movies. I was just going to hide here until my mom and dad come back.

~~~ Amaya I opened the doors to my workplace and walked to the counter. I work at my local library and this morning I was in charge of opening it. I love working at the library. The number one rule there is to stay silent so I'm working in silence all day long. It is very peaceful and it never gets old. Even though I love this job, the pay isn't very good. I was thinking of quitting soon to find a more suitable job to support me better financially. I made my way through the whole library to open all of the lights. I then grabbed a rack and pushed it through the rows in order to place the missing books. After a few minutes, my coworker walked in. His name is Josh and we've become close friends because our shifts were all in sync. Even though he's five years younger than me, his height surpasses mine big time. "Good morning," he said cheerfully. "Hey, what's gotten you so cheerful?" I asked. "Cassidy is pregnant!" He squealed. Cassidy is his girlfriend since high school. I've met
~~~ Amaya I stirred on the bed I was laying on. The headache I had was pounding my head making me groan out of discomfort. I slowly opened my eyelids but immediately shut them. Why was my room so bright? I don't remember it being bright like that. Wait a minute. I reopened my eyes and took a long questioning glance at the room I was in. This isn't my room. Did I get kidnapped by a psycho Uber driver again? Last night was nothing but a blur right now. The only thing I remember quite vividly is almost getting stabbed by a spear. As panic slowly started to settle within me, I quietly and discretely pulled myself out of the bed. I didn't want to risk making any noise just in case the guy was a maniac and would actually stab me with a spear this time. I tiptoed myself to the hallway. The house looked clean, modern, and well kept. I spotted the staircase and checked my surroundings to see if anyone was there before quietly walking towards them. Luckily, the front door was located n
~~~ Amaya As soon as I arrived home, I hopped into the shower. I felt so dirty because alcohol stains from yesterday were all over me. A nice hot shower just sounded right. I called Destiny before my shower to see if she was okay. She said that she was fine but she doesn't remember anything about last night nor how she got back home but at least she's safe. I wonder who took her back home. I was still a little bit weirded out by what that man said. What if he wasn't lying? What am I thinking? Of course he's lying. Trying to make me believe that supernaturals are real and exist. Who does he take me for? My parents didn't suspect that I got kidnapped yesterday. I don't know if I should feel hurt or relieved. They thought I just went over to Destiny's house for the night. I just wanted to leave last night in the past and move on so maybe it was a good thing that my parents didn't suspect a thing. I let the hot water from the shower run down through my whole body. I've been in here
~~~AmayaWe had already settled ourselves in the house. Aunt Omnira's estate was spacious. It had five bedrooms and three bathrooms.My parents shared a room together and I took one for myself. Another perk of being the only child.As I was unpacking my suitcase, I noticed this old-looking book at the bottom. Taking a better look at it, I recognized it.My heart stopped for a second while a sat on the ground frozen. It was the same book that I thought I threw in the garbage. How the hell did it get inside my suitcase?"The book has a mind of its own."No, it can't be. I refuse to believe this. Maybe I just didn't exactly put it in the garbage. Maybe I just had a vivid dream and mixed-up reality. Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me cause that wouldn't have been the first time it happened.I once had a vivid dream in high school about my crush. He had asked me out in it and I was so sure that it was real that the next morning, as soon
~~~AmayaMy head was killing me. My neck was hurting and my throat was burning. I felt like absolute shit.I slowly but cautiously pried open my eyes. The first thing I noticed was that I wasn't at Aunt Omnira's house. I was in a hospital room.Multiple machines were surrounding me and an oxygen mask was placed on my face. I gently placed the mask under my mouth and took a glance around the room.I saw my parents and aunty sitting on one of the chairs placed around the room. They seemed like they were sleeping. I tried to call out to them but I was only able to make a small groan with my sore throat. At least that was enough to wake up my mom."Oh my! You're awake," she said while engulfing me with kisses and hugs. I tried to talk again to tell her to stop kissing me but I just couldn't produce any sound. My mom seemingly realized this."The doctor said that your vocal cords are a little bruised. You
~~~AmayaToday was the day that I was finally getting discharged. Even if I didn't spend much time here, I was still super excited about leaving. I hated the vibe hospitals brought. Knowing that plenty of dead people were probably laying in the exact same bed as I made me uneasy.If it weren't for my attack the other night, my parents and I would've already left yesterday.My head was hurting me less but my memory hasn't come back yet. At this point, I've lost all hope of remembering again. It took too much energy from me to do so. Yesterday I couldn't sleep at all and now I'm exhausted.My encounter with my kidnapper still lurks in my mind. He hasn't visited me since and I find myself wanting to see him again as weird as that sounds. I just wanted more answers to my questions.Leaving the hospital might've been the best feeling I've had. As soon as the doors opened, I took a sniff of the fresh air that I'v
~~~ Amaya His eyes no longer had those pretty green tint in them. They were now a bright glowing red colour. His teeth now contained a pair of sharp fangs ready to bite through your skin anytime. He wasn't just my kidnapper anymore. Nor my stalker. He was now my vampire. This realization hit me like a train. My feet were glued to one place not daring to move. My breathing had stopped a while ago. The beast in front of me must've caught on to my nervousness because a small pang of hurt shot across his face but quickly vanished. I knew I should be terrified. I knew I should be running in the opposite direction. I knew I should be screaming for dear life. So why couldn't I? I couldn't bring myself to be scared of this creature. I might've been shocked but I'm not frightened for some reason. It was as if deep down, I already knew who he truly was. "Listen, you might be scared shitless right
~~~ Amaya "Among the supernaturals, there are different types. Vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, witches, angels, demons and, elements. They all have different characteristics and abilities." Who would've thought that we had such creatures living among us? "The one who attacked you was a shapeshifter. They are known to be able to imitate any living form. They can change and impersonate any living being on this planet. They can be very dangerous. You might be having a normal conversation with your mom one day but it could be a shapeshifter and you wouldn't even know." As he spoke to me, a little piece of my memory from that night came back. I remember walking into the store and greeting the cash
