Chapter 1. Homecoming dance

" And our homecoming king this year is...... drum roll please. Bobby Styles." The student teacher,Miss Dawn cheered. As the drum rolls died down, Bobby took his place on the stage and a crown was set on top of his perfect chestnut brown hair.

Summer's heart raced, it was only obvious, she was going to be homecoming queen. She knew that Bobby would have pulled a few strings to make that possible. He was the most popular guy in school. The football captain, landing a scholarship for football and law at the University of Brits. That was the main reason Summer had applied and had been accepted into Brits as well. Although she had applied to all five universities, her heart were set on one.

"Our home coming queen for the year 2023 is none other that." Miss Dawn looked around the room, teasing the girls as she prolonged her announcement." And here goes, our home coming queen is Brook Wilds."

Summer took a step forward, realising that her name was not called she slowly retreated into the crowd. He heart sank and she stared at Bobby who did not even notice her. He was staring at Brook, he looked mesmerized by her pink, sequenced mini dress. She was like a real life Barbie doll. Summer could not compare to her since she wasn't as confident to show so much skin. Instead she wore a baby blue ball gown with layers of net and lace. She did not blame Bobby for not being able to to pull a few strings to get her the homecoming queen title but she was still his girlfriend since eighth grade.

Summer clapped, she was happy for Bobby. He had talked about being homecoming king all year and now the title was his.

Walking over to the refreshment table, Summer picked up a glass of punch and sipped it while she watched Miss Dawn place the crystal tiara on Brooks perfectly blonde curly hair.

She closed her eyes and fantasized about wearing that tiara and receiving that big bouquet of red roses.

The cheers of the students around her brought her back to the sad reality as Bobby and Brook took to the dance floor.

He held her waist tightly, pinning her against him. Her head rested on his chest as they both swayed to the rhythm of the music.

Some part of Summer felt jealous but she shook the thoughts out of her head. She had no reason to doubt Bobby. They spent most of their time together and when he wasn't with her, he was with the guys.

Lurking in the back of the hall, Tyler watched his brother dancing with Brook. He rolled his eyes and then looked at Summer, standing all by herself drinking a glass of fruit punch.

He wanted to walk up to her and sweep her off onto the dance floor but she wasn't his to have.

From the corner of his eye he watched a hand creep out from under the table with a bottle of alcohol.

Knowing the punch was now spiked he knew he had to do something before Summer refilled her glass. He watched her take the last sip from her glass and pick up the ladle to refill.

Grabbing a bunch of leaves from the pot plant next to him, he dashed over, tripping over himself he deposited the leaves into the punch.

" Silly me, I am so sorry." Tyler apologised as he tried to fish out the leaves from the punch." I guess I just ruined a nice punch."

A waiter came to his rescue and took the bowl away, replacing it with a new one.

" It's alright, I think it was spiked." Summer smiled. Her strong sense of smell never failed her.

Tyler smiled and extended his arm." Hi , I am Tyler ."

Before Summer could introduce herself, the song ended and Bobby grabbed her around the waist giving Tyler a deadly look.

" My date awaits my company." Tyler said hurriedly before disappearing into the crowd.

" He seems nice. Do you know him?" Summer questioned.

" He is just some geek in our grade. No one important." Bobby laughed before taking a glass of punch and gulping it down.

Summer expected him to apologize or show some sort of emotion for her not being homecoming queen but instead she had to listen to him boast about being the homecoming king.

" I always knew I would be homecoming king. How can anybody resist this good looks." Bobby gloated.

" So homecoming is based on looks. So am I not pretty enough to be homecoming queen?" Summer asked him.

" It's not like that. You know what I mean. It has been my dream for like forever." Bobby replied.

" I know. I'm sorry I'm killing your good mood. Congratulations." Summer smiled, but her smile did not reach her eyes.

He lifted her chin to look in her eyes," you are beautiful to me. I am now going to the washroom. I will see you in a bit."

" I think I also need to go." Summer followed him.

Staring in the mirror she looked at her brown hair. She didn't have much freckles and they were hidden with the foundation her mother applied generously this afternoon. She dabbed her nose with some powder from her purse and exited the washroom.

Waiting on the side for almost ten minutes,Bobby did not exit and she checked her watch every few minutes tapping her foot impatiently.

Fifteen minutes had passed and she asked a boy that was passing by to check if Bobby was alright in the toilet. She hoped his excitement didn't give him a runny tummy. She remembered when he received the scholarship news earlier in the week, he spent three hours in the toilet.

" Sorry, I don't see Bobby in there." The boy said as he exited the washroom.

Summer could not understand, where Bobby would go without her. Why would he just leave her?

She checked her phone and a message popped up on the screen. Curiously she opened it.
