Elara’s POV,

He doesn’t say a word at first; he just smirks, that predatory, arrogant curve of his lips that always makes my stomach flip.

Before I can even process his presence, he’s moving. He moves fast. The mattress dips under his weight as he crawls onto the bed like a predator. One hand works at his shirt buttons while the other loosens his tie. With his eyes locked on mine, he rips his tie away with a sharp tug, tossing it carelessly to the floor.

I try to scramble backward, but his fi

  • Contract marriage: I am the daughter of my husband's enemy   188. Alessandro Virelli

Third-person POV, At the same time in the Kórvac Mansion. The Kórvac mansion had never been this loud. The communications room had descended into controlled chaos as voices overlapped one another, soldiers rushed from one console to the next, and every available frequency dissolved into nothing but static. No matter how many times they attempted to reconnect with Team A, every transmission died before a single coherent word could be heard.Lucien wasn’t answering.Neither was Dante.Nor Nikolai.Elara stood several feet away from everyone else with her back against the wall, biting at the skin around her fingernails until they bled. Every failed attempt to establish contact tightened the knot in her chest until breathing itself became difficult. Her thoughts refused to slow down, replaying the contents of Matteo's file over and over until she could barely distinguish memory from panic. She had been right. She prayed she had been wrong. The contradiction was driving her mad.Noemi w

  • Contract marriage: I am the daughter of my husband's enemy   187. Elara Solis

Third-person POV, Matteo’s trap wasn’t sprung with a gunshot. It began with silence. The explosion came several seconds later. The warehouse trembled beneath their feet as the blast ripped through one side of the compound, sending concrete and twisted steel into the air. Lucien barely had enough time to shove Dante aside before the floor beneath them collapsed completely. Dust swallowed the room, the ceiling caved inward, and the world disappeared beneath smoke, debris, and a roar so violent that even his enhanced hearing surrendered to a high-pitched ringing.Everything went black.~~Lucien woke with a sharp breath. For a brief moment, he couldn’t distinguish whether the throbbing in his skull came from the explosion or the nightmare he was certain he had been having. His vision refused to focus, and the ringing in his ears slowly faded into the sound of dripping water somewhere in the darkness. He tried to move, and metal clanked. His wrists were restrained above his head by thick

  • Contract marriage: I am the daughter of my husband's enemy   186. Son of a b*tch

Elara’s POV, “YOU IDIOTS!” Every soldier below looks up. “ADRIAN VIRELLI IS MY FATHER!”Silence crashes over the courtyard. Noemi pushes through the crowd, staring at me as though I’ve completely lost my mind.“What the fuck are you doing, Elara? What are you saying?”“Get me down, and I’ll explain everything.”“It’s too late to throw a tantrum like this. The team already intercepted Matteo.”“But that’s exactly the problem!” I shout. “Matteo shouldn’t be moving! It’s part of his plan! Lucien is walking straight into a trap!”Noemi blinks.“What are you talking about?”I hold the folder over the edge.“This file says Adrian Virelli is my father.”She stares.“...What?”“Ha! Trust me, it came as a surprise to me too."“Elara, be fucking serious.”“I am serious! The file says Adrian Virelli is my father, Matteo Virelli is my uncle, and if that’s true, then Matteo already knows where the heir is.”Her expression changes.“Lucien went to retrieve the heir…”“Exactly. Dorine saw me fall i

Elara’s POV, Hours pass before I finally stop screaming. At some point, my voice gives out, my fists split open, and every vase, lamp, picture frame, and piece of furniture that can be broken ends up scattered across the floor. The room looks as though a hurricane tore through it, and I am too exhausted to care. Even the curtains are beginning to burn where I threw a candle without thinking. The smell of smoke hangs in the air, yet it somehow feels cleaner than the silence. He really left.Lucien actually left me here.I slide down the wall until I’m sitting on the floor, drawing my knees against my chest. The illusion remains perfect. There is still no door or window. Only the soft breeze drifting through a room that shouldn’t have any air at all.He promised he would never use his illusion on me again.A bitter laugh escapes me.Another promise broken. My eyes wander across the room until they settle beneath the bed again for the fifth time. The folder.Dorine’s folder. The one I s

  • Contract marriage: I am the daughter of my husband's enemy   184. Cancel the operation

Lucien’s POV, I have always trusted my instincts. Not my eyes, not my ears. Not even my memories.Illusions taught me long ago that the world lies. It lies beautifully and convincingly. It lies until the truth becomes unbearable. So I learned to trust the only thing that couldn’t be manipulated. My instincts. And right now, every instinct I possess is telling me to turn around. The first scream reaches me before I make it halfway down the corridor.“LUCIEN!”My feet stop.God, no. Please don't.Another scream. This one isn’t angry. It’s frightened and raw. The kind of fear that claws at walls because it has nowhere else to go.I close my eyes.Don’t move.Don’t move.If I turn around—Another crash echoes through the mansion. She’s throwing things and looking for a way out.Of course she is. Because I promised her.I promised I would never use my illusion on her again. And yet here I am.Breaking another promise. The only difference this time is that I cry while doing it.“...Lucien…

  • Contract marriage: I am the daughter of my husband's enemy   183. Last Hurrah

Elara’s POV, Tenderly, like he wanted to memorize every heartbeat between us.Suddenly, we were lying in the deep, cool embrace of the meadow, the scent of crushed clover and wild thyme clinging to our skin.He moved over me with a slow, deliberate reverence, as if I were something fragile and sacred. His hands, warm and calloused, slid beneath the hem of my dress, lifting the fabric with an agonizing slowness that made my breath hitch. Every inch of skin he uncovered felt electric under his touch. As he gently eased my clothes away, his eyes never left mine—dark, swirling blue pools of adoration that seemed to strip my soul bare long before my body was exposed.“Darling,” he whispered, the word a velvet caress against my ear.He lowered himself, and we met in a kiss that tasted of longing and desperation, like we were trying to breathe for one another. There was no rush or urgency to conquer; there was only the need to be as close as humanly possible. As he entered me, a soft gasp
