“What do you mean, Sol? There is no need for me to choose between the two of you, of course I will go with you,” he held my hand and looked at Aster who looked so shocked.
“B-But, Mr. Trenton I’m afraid…”
“Aster, my wife needs me. I will call someone to come and help you out, but I can't let my wife go alone, especially now that she’s carrying our child,” he seriously said and wrapped his arm around my waist. “Let’s go, Sol.”
“Mr. Trenton…” Aster tried to stop us, but he ignored her. That’s the only time I felt relieved, he chose me.
“Why didn’t you say that you’re pregnant? We talked this morning. If only I knew,” he glanced at my side as he started driving.
“I only found out about my pregnancy just now, too,” I simply said, I lost all the energy I have because of what happened in the hospital.
Although he chose me, there’s something inside my chest and the lump in my throat that I could ignore.
I felt his hand gently hold my hand and caress the back of it, he brought it close to his lips and kissed it.
“I’m so happy with your pregnancy, Sol. I hope you will let me make it up to you and to our child, let’s have a happy family together from now on.”
I look at him, directly to his eyes.
I don’t see anything there but sincerity.
I pursed my lips, maybe I love him too much. I nodded slowly, for our child…
“Okay,” I smiled.
Days and months have passed, and Trenton really did change. From the day he knew about my pregnancy until today, he didn’t miss a thing about me.
I don’t see his secretary in his office either whenever I go there, making sure that I won’t feel jealous again. I’m also glad how he always went some earlier than usual to keep me accompanied at night, and all my craving, he will get it no matter what.
“I got you some dessert; try it and see if you like it. I will buy you again,” he said as he knelt and caressed my belly bump. “It’s big now, and he’s being naughty day and night.” He looked up at me and smiled. “Just a few more weeks and we will see him; I can’t wait.”
His tone sounded exciting and even his eyes lit up whenever he talked about our child. Seeing him like this, everything is worth it.
“Me too, I’m excited to see our child,” I whispered back to him. “Can I go to your office later? Will I take lunch? I want us to eat together; is that okay?” I looked at him pleadingly.
He sighed and nodded.
“Fine, I will wait for you so we can eat together. I will go now; don’t tire yourself too much, all right?” He kissed my forehead and left; all I could do was look at his back until I lost sight of him.
I excitedly went upstairs; I needed to get ready to at least still look presentable to his employees. Since the pregnancy, a lot has changed to my body; aside from having some dark areas, the change of my figure is impossible to hide. I can no longer wear most of my old clothes, but Trenton has been supportive of me through it all.
I smiled when I saw the maternity dress he had just bought for me the other day; I happily picked it out to wear later.
It took me at least four hours, cooking the food and dressing up. Having a big bump is really hard to move, but just thinking that the life inside of me is our child made it feel bearable.
“Excuse me, I’m here to deliver some food for my husband. Is he in his office?” I asked the woman at the front desk, who immediately smiled at me.
“He’s in the meeting right now, Mrs. Rivera. But you can go in there and wait for him,” she respectfully answered and went back to what she was doing.
I hope he likes what I cook today. He’s become busier these past months; he always talks with someone on the phone abroad. Perhaps the expansion of his company abroad is the reason.
I slowly opened the door when one of the employees was too stunned to see me.
“What are you doing in my husband’s office?” I asked as I looked at her hand holding something like a USB. “What are you holding? Let me look at it,” I said and hurriedly walked toward her, but she shook her head.
“M-Mrs. Rivera, i-it’s my report for the audit. B-But I realize Mr. Rivera is not here, I-I will just come back later—” She was about to walk toward the door I stopped her.
“No, you can’t leave. Let me see what’s in your hand first,” I insisted and tried to take it from her, but she didn’t let me; instead, she stepped away from me.
“M-Mrs. Rivera, you’re not part of the company. This is important information; you can see this,” she argued. “I will go now,” she said, but I held her arms.
“I’m his wife, I have the right to check what is in your hand. Let me see it—” But before I could finish my words, she pushed me hard. I was too shocked to even balance myself; my stomach slammed hard on the edge of the table. The jolt of pain shot through my entire body, as if I was stabbed in the stomach and twitched it. “M-My stomach… It hurts…”
It hurt too much; the pain was so intense that I gasped desperately to breathe, and my vision became blurry.
“H-Help… my stomach, it hurts…” I extended my hand to touch her, but she stepped back. “P-Please help me, my baby…” I could feel something between my legs leaking; it was hot.
I moved my trembled hand to touch it, and the horror I felt when I saw the blood soaking my hand was enough for me to have the strength to scream.
“H-Help! My baby, H-Help me!” I can’t lose him, I can’t lose my child.
“Ma’am, calm down. We need your family to sign a waiver for you,” The nurse said, trying to calm me down, but I couldn't manage it; it felt like my stomach was being torn apart. The pain was excruciating.
I curled up again as I felt pain shoot through my entire body and clutched my stomach; I felt like I was going to lose my mind, all my sensation numb except the unbearable pain.
I need Trenton, I want to see him right now. I’m afraid something bad happened, he needs to be here…
“Ma'am, we’ve been trying to call your husband’s number for a while now, but he really isn't answering. Is there truly no one else you can call? You need to undergo surgery; otherwise, both you and the baby will be in danger.” The nurse said in an uneasy tone.
I can call mom and dad, but if they knew that Trenton is not by my side right now, they might get angry.
“I-I can sign the waiver myself, g-give it to me,” my voice trembled, I have no strength left but it’s the only I can think of.
A short period of silence settled over the entire room, no one dared speak for a few seconds.
“A-Are you sure ma’am?” One of the nurses finally broke the silence, she handed the paper and pen in front of me. “Your water already broke, and the baby is still premature. The risk of operation is high, if something goes wrong–”
“Save the baby,” I said and held her hand tightly. “Please save my child over me,” I moved my shaking hand with a stain of my dried blood to reach out the pen, my signature was not perfect but enough to give them the authority to operate me.
“Prepare the operating room, notify the doctor to get ready for the operation!” One of the nurses shouted as I finished.
I felt my tears fall down to my cheeks but have no more strength to wipe it, as long as my child will be … I’m fine with whatever happened.
SOLACE“Mommy!” Soren hugged me tightly as he arrived from school, he looked so happy. It's been years and every time he knew his daddy would arrive, it excited him more than usual in the past years. “Daddy will come home today, right?” He asked, which made me smile too.“Yes, he will be here any minute. Change your clothes now, so we can start dinner once he arrives,” I said and looked at the clock.“Okay!” He ran to the second floor full of energy. Smiles slowly formed into my lips, I could feel the lightness in my chest. Soren is my precious baby, the child I love more than anything. He was born with a heart condition and spent much of his childhood in and out of hospitals.I spent countless sleepless nights by his bedside, holding his tiny hand and praying he would be okay. Everytime his condition worsened, I need to rushed him to the hospital no matter what time or day. I plead and consulted the doctors, and fought back my fear to strong for him.On the other hand, Trenton was al
SOLACE“It’s been hours, why she haven’t regained consciousness?” I heard my mother’s voice on my side. She sounds so worried but my eyes feel heavy.“Ma’am, like I said her body went into shock but I assured you that she’s fine now and will wake up at any time soon–”“Mom…” I called, finally able to open my mouth but my throat felt so dry.“Oh, darling you’re finally awake!” She immediately ran to my side and caressed my cheeks. I felt the warmth of her hand.I remember how terrified the situation was earlier, and her touch made me realize how strong she is as my mother.“Oh, darling. Sorry we are late, it must have terrified you a lot. Don’t worry, everything is fine now,” she said gently.I smiled at Mom and glanced behind her to where Dad is, he looked angry.“Dad, I’m fine–”“That good-for-nothing man! How could he choose to go on a business trip over you and his child who’s fighting for their lives?!” He slammed his palm on the table, my forehead creased and looked at mom confus

SOLACE“You're weeks pregnant, Mrs. Rivera, congratulations!” The doctor happily announced. “Though, your body needs some vitamins; the fetus is developing healthily.”“I-I’m pregnant?” My voice trembled, I wasn’t able to immediately believe the words she said.“Yes, Mrs. Rivera. You heard it right, you're weeks pregnant, and it’s healthy.” She gave me the prescription. “It’s a shame that you’re not with your husband; I’m sure he will be happy too about this news,” she said, smiling. She even patted my hand, like giving me her support.I immediately wiped the tears from my eyes and chuckled.“It’s fine, I will surprise him with this.” I caressed the laboratory result I was holding. “I know he will be happy once he knows he’ll be a father,” I whispered as I remembered the words he said before our wedding. We might have had a fight these past few weeks but I know he will be happy once he hears that we will be parents now.He wants children, this may be the way for us to fix our marriag
SOLACE“Trenton,” a smile spread across my face as I opened my eyes, and he was the first one I saw. “You didn’t leave,” my voice hoarse from last night; even my lower back hurt, but I didn’t mind at all. We did it; he’s not disgusted by me.There’s still hope in our relationship.Yesterday was our wedding day, I’m finally Mrs. Rivera. It’s been my dream and now, it’s my reality.“Of course, I waited for you,” he answered and threw some papers on my side. “Sign it before I go to the company; I need it for the board meeting.” It wasn’t a request for a favor; instead, it was an order I had to follow.“What is this?” I read the words written in it. “Full access to our joint account and assets?”“Yes, I need you to sign it. We need to share everything in this marriage; after all, we’re tied to each other now.” He said without hesitation.“You want us to share everything with each other?” I could not help but ask, my eyes felt so hot, so he really did want this arrangement.I thought I’m t
