Axel

“We've got more problems,” Nick said as I sipped whiskey that morning.

I looked at him wearily, fed up with it all.

This sounds terrible, said my wolf, Mal.

The word terrible might as well be a fucking euphemism for what had happened after Clare ran away. It was as if shit had hit the fan, as if all possible chaos had crept into Crescent.

We hadn't had any luck finding Clare; there was no sign of Selene anywhere, and her uncles didn't want to interact with us in any way. They blocked any kind of contact with the pack to the point of relegating their workers to manage the properties the council hadn't seized.

And the worst thing wasn't that; it was that disaster knocked on our door in a terrible way.

A damned magical parasite that Clara had implanted in our territory was wiping out livestock and crops.

A damned magical parasite!

Of all the damn things I never saw coming, that was one of the craziest and most unreal things I could imagine. There was no room in my head for something

  • My mate's betrayal   Chapter 83

Axel“Visitors have arrived!” shouted Beth from the front of the house. That surprised me.I was not in the mood for visitors; the epidemiological fence was on, so no one could enter or leave the pack without permission, so I peeked in to see what was really going on.My face uncrossed in surprise when I saw Amelie standing next to an old woman I recognized as a sorceress. And she wasn't just any old sorceress. I could tell the woman was old, wise, and full of knowledge. The old woman looked at everything with suspicion, as if she was studying the core of my pack. That bothered me a lot, but I was still relieved to see Amelie.I ran to receive the sorceress who had a pact; of all the things that could happen, the arrival of the sorceress was the best of all. She had an oath of protection over my family, so seeing her was calming.“How did you take so long to arrive?” I questioned immediately due to fear coursing through my veins; I feared everyone in my pack would end up dead. “I thou

SeleneThe success of the cure made me happy. We began to make preparations to mass-produce the concoction that we would send to the packs. With Yasa and Amelie's help, we accelerated the processes and stabilized a standard formula for the people based on their weight. This helped to reduce costs and maximize the yield of materials. We were more than happy; we were completely happy. When Thursday arrived, the first batch of the concoction was shipped south to Crescent.“I'll write a note to Axel,” Amelie said. “That way he won't hesitate to accept the medicine.”I sighed with relief. The latest reports from Crescent were horrifying. The pack had been stricken with silk sickness in an uncontrolled manner; half the council had perished, and those remaining were infected. The last Amelie heard, Eugene was in danger, and that broke my heart.Crescent Gamma was a sweet, gentle, kind, patient, and loving wolf.He listened to people, thought before he acted, and analyzed the situation.Someh

SeleneYasa shook many times before she screamed loudly and fell to the floor.Amelie immediately helped her, but the first thing she did was look me in the eye.“Your blood is divine,” Yasa said, and that scared me, not because of the fact that she already knew the power of my blood, but because of the terrifying way she said it. “Your blood is an instrument of the gods themselves.”“What do you mean?” asked Amelie. She looked at Izan, and then she looked at me."You were destined from the beginning of everything; you were always each other's end, in all lives and times. In every cycle," Yasa whispered so softly it gave me chills. "You are the primal ones. It's fascinating to be alive to see you together."I looked at Izan fearfully, and he looked seriously at the old woman.“The funny thing is that you are pregnant by another, and your child is what the gods never expected,” Yasa said, and I felt afraid.“I'm not understanding her,” I said calmly so as not to lose my temper. “I need

SeleneThe pack guards mobilized with ease. They quickly sealed off the dock, the loading station, and the entire Styx River area.A group of healers from the sanctuary joined the operations, so they were the ideal people to do the epidemiological encirclement perfectly. They all worked in sync, and that gave me a lot of peace.Izan hugged me at night with much affection and gave me a sweet kiss before going to sleep.“Rest,” he said lovingly, and I sighed.“I love you,” I said without hesitation.“And I love you, Selene; never forget that,” my mate said firmly. It didn't take long for him to fall asleep. He must be very tired, Kate whispered. He has so many responsibilities on top of him, and the stress is mounting. You must take care of him. Izan is a good man, but he is a man after all; he won't say what is bothering him openly. You have to spoon it out of him. You must be attentive to it, my she-wolf advised.Kate was quite right.Izan avoids talking about what was stressing them

SeleneHaving hope was something that had renewed my soul.Seeing Izan's desolate expression finally gone had given me the tools to find strength. If my blood was able to effect a curse, then my blood could help those infected by the silk sickness. The divine magic in my blood could easily remove the magical parasite, so I had to sort out my thoughts on the matter. It was going to be tricky to study with someone infected, but Daemon was right, and I checked with Izan.“Are you okay?” asked Gabrielle carefully. “You have a strange expression on your face; I don't know if you're happy or worried.”“Both,” I said carefully. “I need to study a person infected with silk sickness.”“That's not possible, Selene,” Gabrielle said fearfully.“I know, I know, but the only viable way to find some sort of cure using my blood is that way,” I said confidently. "I could verify that what Daemon said was true, and like it or not, having an infected person in the lab would be a good thing. Or at the ver

  • My mate's betrayal   Chapter 78

SeleneThe silk sickness spread like wildfire across the continent.East, West, and South fell rapidly. As I remapped the contagion, I knew that had we not closed the border in time and recommended sending out warnings immediately, the North would have been consumed as quickly as the other areas had fallen. I was surprised when we were notified by Southern personnel that several packs, including Crescent, were suffering from silk sickness.Knowing that the place where I was born was in a bad way completely shook me.“I'll make a call,” my uncle said and asked Izan for help.I didn't have to be a fortune teller to know that he would donate the money held at Crescent so the pack could afford things. It was something my uncle would do without hesitation. And that calmed me down a bit, but it didn't mitigate the feeling of sadness. The only positive thing about this whole big mess was Gabrielle. She was very quick about it; she didn't doubt my word for a second, and to my surprise, the ot
