Episode 4

________Stephanie__________

I was sweeping the mansion when Mrs Daphne woke up. I was dressed in my head of maid outfit when she called me,

“Stephanie! Stephanie!!”

I pretended as if I didn’t hear her and continued my sweeping. She began to yell my name more louder till she came downstairs.

“Didn’t you hear me calling you?”

“I’m sorry ma, I was sweeping the...”I said and barely finished my sentence

“Never mind that. I want you to prepare the guest room ready for the new caretaker that will arrive here this evening”

“Wow! Who is she?”

“You will know soon”

“Did Evans come back home last night?”

“No ma”

“Is breakfast fast ready?”

“Almost. Nelly is adding the finishing touches to it”

“Okay. Tell her to be quick because I’m heading out”

“Are you going out?”

“No, I’m sleeping. Get back to work”she said sarcastically.

“Get back to work”I did in my mocking voice

“What was that?”

“Nothing ma”

“Good”

She left and went back upstairs to her room.

“Thank God she is gone. Always busy me around”

“Oh one more thing”

“Yes ma”my heart skipped a beat

“Bring breakfast to my room and tell Helen she should hurry up. We will be leaving soon”

“Okay ma”

I stood there to make sure that she shut the door. Thank goodness she didn’t hear me.

I was done with my chores and served her breakfast in her room. I went to the farm market at Richard’s street. I had to wait in line to buy the fresh vegetables needed for tonight’s dinner.

After my photo shoot with the famous Fernando Von Dez, I packed my things and boarded a plane by to New York. I would have taken my private jet but the pilot called sick at the dying minute. My mom was not surprised. She refused to board the plane with me even though it was first class. She says she would like to keep her reputation than be seen in a mere airplane. It was a 3 hours flight but it was what waiting for. At least I would see my finance once again. Finally, the plane landed. Oh! What a flight! I called Mrs Daphne to inform her about my arrival and she should send,Anderson, her driver to keep me up.

“Hello Mrs Daphne”

“Hello Madison. How are you?”

“I’m fine. Are you at home?”

“No, I went to pick up the caretaker for my husband”

“Oh! Okay. Is Evans at home?”

“No”

“Okay. Please can you send Anderson to pick me up at the airport?”

“Okay”she said and hung up

Few minutes later, Anderson arrived with the car. He waved at me but I snubbed him and entered the car. I sat at the back seat of the car.

“Nice to see you Ms Madison”

“Yeah, whatever”

“How are your parents”

“They are fine”

“But how come they didn’t follow you?”

“You would just shut up and drive. You are too many questions”

He kept shut and continued driving.

The nice lady I met yesterday came to my house and I made me an offer to be her husband’s caretaker. She also promised my Dad and I am accommodation with salaries. I was really happy and excited, so was my dad. I would finally live this dark alley. I have a lot memories here like the first day I met Claire and played hopscotch. I cried a little but knew it was for the best. I packed my luggages and that’s of my dad’s and kept them in the trunk of the car. I assisted my dad to the car and locked the door. I turned my back to see the house one last time and entered the car. We drove off. Her mansion was so big and fancy. It was coated with smooth green with sliver rails by the side and a nice garden. There are trees planted in the compound with a swimming pool at the back. I came down from the car and went inside with my dad.

“Attention everyone”she said

Everyone came out to the living in a formal manner.

“Yes ma”they chorused

“This is Alex,my husband caretaker. This is her father, Mr Carl. He is going to be the new head of the staff. There are going to be part of this family as long as you treated them as one. Is that understood?”

“Yes Ma”they chorused

“Back to work. Nelly please show Alex and her dad to the guest room”

“Yes ma”

She showed me to my room and I unpacked my luggage.
