Evelyn's POV
“You'll get to know his name in due time, but first you must gain his approval,” the sharp tone of Alpha Raymond resounded as he gave Seth a stern look.
“How do I gain his approval if I know nothing about him? Shouldn't I at least get his name and why he's greatly respected?” Seth asked, his eyes beaming with pride.
My gaze traveled to Luna Janet who wrinkled her nose in disgust. I had a feeling that she only tolerated him because he was her son and unfortunately the only heir to the throne.
“He's the Alpha of the Silver Universe Pack, and he started ruling over the other Pack at a very young age. You see, unlike you, he had taken the throne as a teenager after his father's early demise,” Alpha Raymond continued, his eyes locked on his son.
The deafening silence ensued until Luna Janet cleared her throat. “Seth, this Alpha isn't someone to be taken lightly. Although in his 30s, he already had much control over other packs at a very tender age. During the time that the Packs were at war, This Dark Lord had brought them all under his control, forcing even the most powerful Alphas to surrender. So if you want to gain his approval, then you must use your wits,” she dropped her cutlery, her brows furrowed.
Alpha Raymond leaned back against his seat, his eyes swept across the table and lingered on me for a while before they went back to his son. “This new development project is his latest territory, and he's selecting a qualified Alpha from his Packs to lead the project,” he paused, his eyes filled with annoyance before he continued. “Take this as an opportunity to prove your capability, and build a relationship with the Alpha King because it could significantly strengthen our Pack and also help with the declining economy situation.”
“If that's the case then I believe I can do that. When do I have to meet him?” I couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or ignorant as always, but Seth's tone was unsettling, almost as if everything that were said didn't bother him.
The condition of the Pack wasn't the sole reason he returned after all. He came back with the hope of claiming the throne.
With the look on Alpha Raymond's face, I knew he also disapproved of the tone. “We received word that he's currently staying at a secluded estate near the Pack's borders, and he's taking care of his sick mother. Tomorrow is just mother's birthday and the Moon Goddess is on our side because we received two invitations.” He replied, looking thoughtful for a while.
Seth nodded but as expected, there was an uninterested look etched across his face. “Then I believe you and mother can attend the birthday,” he shrugged.
The tension heightened, and the anger exuding from Alpha Raymond was noticeable. “Your mother and I will stay behind. You're to attend the birthday party with Evelyn, and you're using the opportunity to make a good impression!” He said, looking exhausted with his son's lack of interest.
I sighed inwardly, while reaching for the cup of water across the table, just in time for Seth to reach out for him as well. My fingers touched his and my stomach churned in disgust. The memory of his words, flashing through my mind until the air became suffocating.
“Thank you for dinner, I'll be in my room,” I said, shifting in my seat while trying to hide the displeasure.
“Good, speaking of which, Seth, you'll be staying with Evelyn tonight. I believe there's so much that you'd have to share with her. Besides, it's been three years,” Luna Janet suggested, her smile didn't quite reach her eyes as she spoke.
Seth's face fell, his eyes slowly widened in terror. He had always been bad at hiding his emotions. “I'm sorry to disappoint you mother, but I have a business to attend to outside tonight,” he quickly declined.
“A business to attend to at this time of the day?” a scoff followed as Luna Janet leaned forward with a burning gaze. “And does that business include the little fox?” She questioned, looking frustrated, while I leaned back with an amused expression.
Seeing him so uncomfortable made me somewhat relieved. Luna Janet, clicked her tongue in frustration after getting no response. “You're to stay with Evelyn tonight,” she demanded, leaving no room for arguments.
“I'll leave first,” I finally stood up, giving her a small nod before leaving. I hurried into the room and quickly took a shower, and changed into my nightwear before the creaking sound of the door caught my attention.
Seth stepped in, his eyes darting around the room until they settled on me and his brows creased. He ignored me, much to my satisfaction as he reached for his phone.
“My love,” his voice echoed in the silence as he pressed the phone to his ear. “Yes, I'm sorry that I can't be with you tonight. Something came up so I have to stay over tonight, but I promise it won't happen again,” he spoke, while giving me a side glance.
Judging by the tone of his voice, I could already tell that he was conversing with Veronica. He adapted a softer tone and his expression changed into that of pity, something I never got from him before.
My lips twitched in frustration as the conversation continued. Somehow the thoughts of the enigmatic stranger crossed my mind. I had given him a large sum of money and even the villa we spent countless nights as compensation before leaving. I didn't even bother to get his thoughts about it because at the time, it felt like the right thing to do.
I didn't need more drama in my life right, yet curiosity filled my mind mixed with the annoyance towards Seth. I scrolled through my contacts until I stopped at his contact.
I had saved it ‘Dylan’ just to remember, but that wasn't his real name, not that I could even remember his real name. Our relationship was shallow with just one thing in mind–getting pleasure and giving pleasure in exchanging. However, thinking about it now made me cringe, realizing that it made me nothing less than a player.
I jerked in shock, and my heart skipped a beat when my phone vibrated. The familiar name flashed across the screen.
“Are you going to pick that?” Seth hissed, his hand covering the speaker and his phone.
Ignoring his question, I picked the call. “You missed me already,” my voice sounded smooth while a teasing smile curled my lips.
“Where are you?” The baritone voice came from the other end. “Come to the villa,” he demanded, giving me no time to refute.
“I can't come to the villa,” I replied cautiously.
“Why?” He asked with a slight irritation.
The teasing smile disappeared as my voice returned to normal. “Because I have to stay with my husband tonight,” I ran my fingers through the helm of my dress. Unlike Seth, I had nothing to hide.
“I don't care, just come here within the next thirty minutes,” he growled.
My fingers stilled, and my brows drew into a hard knot as I tried to understand the reason for the demand. Was he angry because of the compensation? Was he unsatisfied?
It had to be the reason for the sudden irritation in his voice. “If you're displeased by the compensation, then I can double it for you. How about another apartment?” I offered.
“I don't want any apartments from you, just get here now!” He snapped.
I froze in place, shocked by his sudden harsh tone. This was the first time he ever raised his voice or sounded upset.
Removing the unwanted thoughts, I tried to keep my voice neutral, knowing very well that he was on edge and any more arguments would only infatuate him further, plus I barely knew him personally to guess what he was like when angry.
“Look, I understand your frustration, but whatever we had is over, and I hope it remains that way,” I said in a whisper and heard him cursing before I ended the call.
I threw my head back with a growl, both confused and drained.
“Who was that?” Seth inquired, and a muscle ticked on his jaw as he moved closer with a narrowed gaze.
Arching a brow at him, I crossed my arms over my chest. “My boyfriend,” I replied flatly, and my lips curved into a smile as I watched his eyes dilated in shock.
Evelyn's POV As I bid farewell to Francis, he turned to me with a mischievous glint in his eye. "I'll be texting you once you're back home, Evelyn. Don't forget to reply, I know you're very busy."I laughed, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. "Thanks for helping me out, Francis. I owe you one."
Stella's POV I stood on the stage, my eyes fixed on the host, my mind reeling with shock and denial. "What...what are you talking about?" I stuttered, my voice trembling with rage. The host's expression was somber, his voice firm. "Stella, I'm afraid it's true. Your design has been found to be plagiarized. It's identical to one created six years ago by the world-renowned jewelry designer, Missy
Dylan's POV I stood in front of the hospital room, a bag of food in my hand, and a pang of regret in my heart. I had missed the chance to say goodbye to Evelyn, leaving her side to grab a bite to eat. When I returned, I found that she had already left, but not without leaving behind a small token of our encounter. On the bedside table, a rabbit-shaped hairpin lay waiting for me. I picked it up,
Dylan's POV I sat in my dimly lit room, my eyes glued to the computer screen as I watched Evelyn's design competition unfold online. The model wearing her stunning necklace, "Time", strutted confidently down the catwalk, and I couldn't help but notice something peculiar. The model's eyes seemed strikingly similar to those of my nephew, Lucy's son. I leaned in closer, my brow furrowed in concentration, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I didn't have any concrete evidence to confirm my suspicion, but the resemblance was uncanny.
Evelyn's pov I stood backstage, my heart racing with anticipation as the co-host announced the final two contestants of the jewelry design competition: Stella and me, Evelyn. The crowd erupted into applause as we made our way to the stage, where our models were waiting to showcase our designs. The competition had been grueling, with 100 designers from all over the world vying for the top spot.
Evelyn's POV I smiled as I answered the phone, hearing Francis's voice on the other end. "Hey, Evelyn. Just wanted to check in and make sure you got back to your hotel safely last night.""I'm okay, thanks for asking," I replied. "I reached my hotel without any issues."There was a moment of silence, and I wondered if Francis was busy. "Hey, are you busy?" I asked. But Francis quickly replied, "No, I'm free. I only have a show tonight, so I've got the day off."I thought for a moment, and then asked, "Want to grab lunch?"Francis agreed, and I sent him the location of a nearby restaurant. I quickly changed my clothes and headed out to meet him.As I arrived at the restaurant, I saw Francis already waiting for me outside. I felt a twinge of apology for keeping him waiting. "Sorry to keep you waiting," I said, smiling. But Francis just smiled back, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I was already close by, and besides, I was only a minute early," he said.I laughed, feeling a sense of
Evelyn's POV They ran without looking back but I could still see in the darkness. A thug with yellow-dyed hair was with my purse. Another thug with dreadlocks was with the gun but I could tell that it wasn't a real gun, judging by how his hand trembled when pointed the gun at me. Without hesitation, I removed my high heels and began to chase after them. I swiftly kicked down the thug with yellow-dyed hair, my foot connecting with his stomach. He doubled over, gasping for breath.Next, I turned my attention to the dreadlocked thug, striking him with my shoe. He stumbled backward, momentarily stunned.Just as I was about to deliver another kick, a young man dressed in white lunged at the dreadlocked thug, pushing him down. I was caught off guard, and my kick went wide, causing me to twist my ankle. I winced in pain, momentarily off balance. The white-clad young man was no match for the thug, and he was quickly pinned down. But I wasn't about to let the thug get the upper hand. I quick
Evelyn's POV The door creaked open even though I tried my best to make it soundless as possible. As I stepped into the villa, the sense of familiarity came crashing down on me but I pushed back the feelings that brought a dull ache to my heart. steeling myself, I made my way upstairs and into my room. I turned on the light and the room came to life and I went to the closet. I slowly took off the clothes in it and put them into the luggages. Thankfully there weren't that many clothes in the closet so I was done within an hour."Where are you going?" The voice made me halt and the familiarity sent chills down my spine. I didn't have to turn around to know who it was behind me. What was he doing here and was he here all along?"I asked a question, Evelyn. Where are you going?" He asked again when he didn't get a response from me.Still acting ignorant, I continued throwing the clothes in my luggage until the last article of cloth and then I zipped the back, turning around to walk past
Evelyn's POV I fell into steps as she led me to a small but modest looking house. The outside had a plain colour to match that of the neighbours. The colour was meant to make the house blend although the structure of the house was like any normal buildings around the premises. "I'm sorry, If I had known that I'd be having visitors, I would have arranged the house to be more presentable. Or at least left the house in a more comfortable way," she joined trying to cut the tension in the air. I knew it was as awkward for her as it was for me. However, her plan worked and I couldn't help but chuckle, trying to look at the bright side of things even though we both knew the reason she hadn't been around. It was clearly because she was in prison for a crime she was wrongly accused of. Everything was self defence but she had been in prison for far too long just because Stella didn't want to help her. "Please, make yourself comfortable," her voice broke my reverie and I turned to look at her
