I used to believe that being the only child of the Alpha of Full Moon Pack comes with a lot of benefits.
Unfortunately, I was wrong.
To the pack members, I was weak, timid and hopeless.
A thousand times I was humiliated and rejected by those that meant the world to me. All these calamities befell me because I was wolf less.
My life companion seemed to be the humiliation, it always kept me company as the days passed by. But tonight, my hopes of finding a mate might come alive.
The mating ball was tonight.
The night I've looked forward to as a child.
The night meant a lot to every young wolf in a full moon pack. It's the night when we found our fated mates.
My father, Alpha Draxler Alphonsus, believes finding my mate will unlock my inner wolf. Who am I to doubt his words of wisdom?
I headed down the hall, toward the grand hall. The sound of my heels clattered against the polished floor. It had been worth the hours tonight to get ready.
Although I was beyond nervous, a spark of it just couldn't help but course through my veins.
The closer I got to the entrance of the hall, the more anxious I became.
I was mentally paralyzed, taking a deep breath. "I can do this. There's no point panicking,"
The hall was beautiful-flowers draped over colored walls, delicate lanterns casting warm glows over the pack members milling around.
Everyone seemed so excited to meet their mates.
"I cannot believe she showed up
What a wasted effort," a voice whispered from close range.
"Why is she here anyway?
Does she really think anyone will claim her? She gotta leave now to save herself from embarrassment." Another voice added. They weren't bothered if I heard them or not.
Those words were blunt than a double edged sword as they punctured my heart like a dagger.
I refused to be intimidated by the side talks. The night was too important to let them ruin me.
"Sophie!" My father's voice booms above the din, and my head snaps toward him immediately.
"Father," I answered with a forced smile.
I never wanted my Father to have the slightest idea that I was the female werewolf making a joke of me.
"The hall does look awesome. Mom outdid herself again." I started the conversation with my Father after combing the four corners of the hall.
"You bet she does.
She sure has a good taste." He endorsed my observation
"But guess who's more beautiful, you my daughter. You're the epitome of beauty." My Father teased me with his flattering words.
"Thank you," I responded in my quiet gratitude, knowing dad would always have my back.
Where the pack treated me like trash, my parents have never abandoned me in any way. They always reminded me how special I was.
Where my wolf would ever appear, my father-the Alpha-has never given up. This event in its entirety, right down to every minor detail, was organized by my mother, Luna Anita.
They have done everything in their power to protect me. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to shield me from the cruel reality of being different in a pack that values strength above all else.
As everyone sat down, my heart began to pound heavily like the drums of war.
The anticipation rises to a fever pitch.
"Soon, the ceremony will begin, and I will find him-my mate. The one that will accept me, even in my woofless state," I spoke within me.
"Hey, Moon pie.
Are you nervous?" my father asked me as he turned towards my direction.
He addressed me by my pet name.
I couldn't recall the last time he did that.
"A bit," I admit, fidgeting with the fabric of my dress.
There's no point playing hide and seek when the truth was boldly written on my face.
"What if no one wants me?" I freaked out.
"Don't you dare," my father shut me out immediately.
"Do I need to remind you who you're? Any man who rejects you would be a fool."
I smiled at his confidence, but that fear was still there.
I had a lot of questions in my head that can't be answered as I heard the footsteps of the messenger.
His voice rises and re-echoes around the hall to announce the start of the mating ritual.
I felt the rise of my adrenaline.
This is it. This was the moment I knew I had been waiting for.
I stood, caressing my dress for the very last time, and then looked around the room as if searching for something.
The pack members were also on their feets, their eyes lit with anticipation. The tension increased in the air, it became thick and heavy.
The room was filled with a lot of opportunities, with so many futures at stake.
I take a deep breath and step forward to join the ceremony. The echo of my father's words still echoes in my head: "
Don't force it. You will know him when you see him"
"Who would he be? What would he look like? More importantly, would he accept me just the way I was?" I mumbled succinctly.
The ceremony kicks in, and I stand at the very edge of my future, waiting for that one moment that will change it all.
"Welcome to our annual mating ceremony. We are all aware that this ceremony is performed on the night of the full moon.
This ceremony unites two young werewolves and bonds them together as one.
After they have mated, they will howl under the full moon to accept each other as mates and unite to form one.
I just want you to know that from now on, you and your chosen mate are one and should always protect one another.
So now, let the annual mating ceremony begin." Ariel the pack witch, spoke as the drum rolls began.
"Who do you think will be your mate?" My father asked me in anticipation.
"Honestly, I have no father. I just hope the moon goddess has something good planned for me," I answered.
My head was blank like the pages of a new book.
Ariel began chanting some words as the entire hall light flickered before going out all at once, leaving the hall in darkness.
The hall fell silent, as a ray of light illuminated the center. Everyone couldn't help but shiver as they witnessed this incredible sight.
The temperature dropped abruptly. Even though there was no visible presence, it felt like one had arrived.
Two blue rays of light fell from the sky, penetrating the palace and landing on werewolves.
They both shrieked when they saw the light on their head and moved to the center of the hall to see who their fated mates were.
The palace fell silent again, Two lights appeared once again.
One of the lights shone on me and I moved to the center of the hall. The hall was dead silent as I was eager to see my mate.
Sophie's Point Of View. The face-off that Nathan and I had outside the pack almost an hour ago is still fresh in my mind. After witnessing such a horrifying journey, I should be sleeping. Rather, I decided to remain awake and speculate as to what Nathan was thinking at the moment. "Why is Alpha Nathan angry with me for what transpired with the wolves in the woods? Did he think I would be devoured by wolves? Maybe he is pleased that I am working toward discovering my inner wolf." As the voice reverberated back to me, I asked myself rhetorically. I considered finding someone with whom I could share my suffering, but then I realized that Annabelle was sleeping beside me. I was so overcome by my recent struggles that I forgot I had company. "Come on, Annabelle, get up. It is impossible that you are asleep when I need someone to talk to," I said, tapping Annabelle awake. I did not feel bad about doing that. That was one of the main reasons I invited Annabelle to go to the Full Moon pack w
Sophie's Point Of View. "Hi, Annabelle. I am aware that my actions outside were strange. I want to take this chance to apologize for both defying you and putting you through that ordeal. I had no idea what I was doing." I said I was sorry to Annabelle. I was just following the voice in my head." She did not deserve the stress I put her through, no matter how much I wanted to apologize. My stubbornness nearly cost me my life when Annabelle was on the verge of having a panic attack. "Damn you for apologizing. It is not necessary for me. Who the fuck are you, girl?" Anna asked, ignoring my question and wearing a shocked expression. I had never heard her call my name so loudly before. "Anna, I am nothing. Like you, I am merely a human. Do not be concerned." I gave Annabelle a wink and sidestepped her query, saying, "You would never understand if I told you." There was no point having the conversation with her. How could I tell Anna that I mustered the courage to face the wolves because o
Sophie's Point Of View. "Keep your cool! Do not freak out. Alpha Nathan will take care of this." Just to relieve some of the pressure on us, Declan made the announcement. "Avoid telling us to remain composed. How can we survive? You all brought it upon us. I said it! I was aware that this would occur, but nobody took me seriously. What will we do?" I let out my loudest scream. I reminded everyone that if they had only listened to me, the attack on us would have been prevented. "Keep quiet, Sophie. Your scream is not making things better. Have you listened to Declan? He had previously promised that Alpha Nathan would support us. Are you looking for anything else?" Annabelle screamed at me. It was startling that while everyone else remained silent and pretended nothing was wrong, I was the only one who was freaking out. "Are you currently paying attention to yourself, Anna? They are wolves ambushing us. If nothing is done, they are going to eat us up pretty quickly," I grumbled to Ann
Sophie's Point Of View "Where do I start right now?" I let out a sigh. Although I was aware of what I needed to say, I was unsure of how to begin or project my explanation in a way that would help Annabelle comprehend. The only person who seemed to understand me better was her. I would still seen as being foolish even if it took a thousand years to explain to Nathan. "I realise this will sound strange. Promise me, though, that if I tell you, you wontt go crazy. Annabelle," I pleaded. It was a huge risk for me. Not that I was sure she would believe me either. Regardless, I was simply going to inform her. "Go for it," She reassured me that there was no limit to what she could not handle. As she spoke, I read her lips and saw that they were unbroken. Not even a blink of her eye. It was sufficient evidence of her ability to complete the task. "I fear that we may be attacked in the near future if we embark on this journey. I am not sure how to describe how I feel at the moment." I eventua
Sophie's Point Of View. "So, how have you been managing to hold on recently? You were kidnapped, I heard. How did you get away with it?" My Mom asked me. While my mother was talking to me, I glanced sideways. Even though she is only a few days away, it seems like forever. It seemed as if I had never met her since. It was the first time in a long time that I was completely unfamiliar to my mother. "I am speaking with you, Sophie. You do not want to discuss it? I understood perfectly. Maybe I shouldn't question you about it." When I refused to speak, my mom stopped asking. "Are you disregarding me, Sophie? Talk to me, please. I do not mind being insulted. All I want to hear is your voice. I am dying of your silence, and I am not sure how long I will put up with this." Like a helpless widow, my mother pleaded. Her tone conveyed pain, and I realised that things had gotten out of hand. She became aware of my aloof behaviour towards her. It won't take anyone to tell her that something was
Chapter 56 Sophie's Point Of View . "I am here to seek your forgiveness and see if we can get back together as friends. I have had enough of arguing with you. I require that we produce something unique." Helena said. "Sophie, as I mentioned, she has no contribution to make. Even a baby can tell that Helena would rather die than say sorry to you. You should ignore her." Annabelle cautioned me that it was a trap. "Anna, do not do that now. Let her be done." I advised Annabelle to give Helena more consideration. I wanted to hear her opinion desperately. "Helena, it is your turn. For what do you wish to apologize for? You did nothing wrong to me," I said. I am willing to wager that her heart would be darker than the pit of hell, despite her outward display of regret. "Hold on a second!" I started, but Annabelle cut me. She kept doing it despite knowing I was upset. "Stop apologizing and explain your purpose for being here. Both you and I are aware that you need to make a special request,
