New Beginnings- Maylee and Dean

The sound of the music vibrates through my body and  bodies pressed up against me along with the intoxicated feeling all combine to create the atmosphere that is new, thrilling and slightly suffocating. I grab the beautiful girl that I have been dancing with, my best friend and daredevil Alexandria. She is the reason we were able to get into the bar in the first place. She said she had our fake IDs made a couple months ago and had been waiting to use them on my birthday. But, this seemed like a better time to break them in. So, we spent a couple hours getting dressed at my house. She wore a midnight blue dress that was simple with thin straps, a V neckline and stopped mid thigh. It showed her curves and flawless porcelain skin, her blonde hair curled and long. I was dressed in my normal color black. I may have a good girl reputation, but I certainly do not dress like the other nerdy prep kids at our school. I have black skinny jeans with ripped knees paired with black wedge boots, a thin tank top that is loose, my hair is dark and straight down to my shoulder blades with my standard silver stud earrings and locket hanging around my neck. I told my mom we were headed out for some fun. She is pretty cool, because I hardly ever do anything to get in trouble besides the usual talking back, teenager stuff. Our bond as a family is very close and she trusts me which means as long as I keep my grades up and continue on the track we have discussed, I have minimum rules to follow. Alex’s parents trust me too, they know I will take care of their whirlwind of a daughter as long as she is with me, they never really ask any questions. I guess, that is the perks of building up the reputations and trust that we have over the years.  We hopped into the car that Alex ordered and we were off to a bar called Chaos. 

“ Will you please turn on some music to get the party started?” Alex asks the driver. He looks like he is a couple years older. There is another guy in the passenger seat, he is around our age with blonde hair that is short on the sides and you can tell he is tall even with him sitting down. 

“ Of course, girl!” The blonde in the passenger seat says. He quickly turns on some fun girly pop music. He speaks in a high pitched voice that seems a little forced. “What is the occasion for such lovely ladies tonight?” He has a smirk on his face while he stares at us.

“ Celebrating the removal of a douchebag from Maylee’s life.” I am stirred out of my quiet state. I did not want this stranger to know my pathetic story!

“ALEX, I told you we were not telling anyone or mentioning him!” I yelled at her  and swat  my hand at her which she dodged easily. 

“ We said we were not saying his name! Plus, it is his loss even if he broke up with you. He is a dumbass. There is no shame in letting go of that horrible person.” I groan and wait for a response from the boy quietly listening to our exchange.

“  Girl, first off my name is Daniel Oliver, and you need to listen to me, if a manchild can let you go from what I can see; he definitely doesn’t deserve you. I maybe into men but sweetheart you are gorgeous!”

“He is right, you know?” The Uber driver speaks up, he has similar features as Daniel, but with dark blue eyes almost navy instead of the light blue Daniel has. 

“ This is my older brother, Christian. He wanted some company while he drove all the drunk people around town tonight.” Daniel introduces his brother. 

  I am taken aback by this statement. I am nothing special, I mean, I am short 5’ 2’’, I have a slender body with some curves, a B-cup and a bubble butt. Nothing like the model sitting next to me. 

“Oh my gosh, I have always wanted a gay best friend!” 

“ALEX, you can’t just yell that out of people. He could be a sociopath, serial killer, or delinquent! ” I scolded her. The couple shots we had stolen from my mom’s stash must be kicking in. I roll my eyes when Daniel interrupts me. 

“Momma bear, I swear I am harmless, I am a junior at Scottsdale High, I am an honor student, with dreams of going to college and finding my sugar daddy! I will tell you anything you want to know. I just moved here a week ago. I have not met many people!” Christian laughs at this statement, shaking his head at his brother's antics. 

“ Wait, you are going to start at Scottsdale? That is the school we go to too.” Scottdale is a public school. It is one of 3 high schools in our city. Alex’s family are really wealthy, like if she didn’t want to work she would never have too. My living status is not the same. Ever since my dad walked out on us, my mom has worked two jobs one as a nurse and the other at a local boutique. 

“Yep, I start on Monday!”

“ So girls, if you are taking applications for the gay best friend, I am so down.  A squeal from Alex seems to seal the deal. 

“ Maylee, right?” Daniel is staring at me, we are stopped at a red light. 

“Yes, that is right.”

“ Are you okay with me being your friend too?” His face is handsome, clean of any facial hair, strong jawline, tan skin. Right now, I can see several emotions in his eyes, anticipation, worry, hope.

Without hesitation I respond, “Well, DUH, you are perfect best friend material from what I can tell!” 

“EPIC bitches! Best Friends for Life.”

“Come with us to the bar, please!” Alex puts on the puppy eyes to try and get her way.

“Girl, I am way ahead of you. I have a change of clothes in the trunk. Christian and I were planning to check out the nightlife after his shift. He can meet up there when it is over. Let’s get this party started!”
