Chapter 28

A tiny smile graced my lips as I admired my reflection on the full length mirror. I was donning a simple suit complimented with a bow tie. I ran my hand through my short hair so it fell in a wavy fashion. I usually had no interest in attending wedding ceremonies but this one in particular was special. The only thing I hated was the bandage tape on my face.

My phone rang in my pocket and my smile faded noting the caller ID.

“Ariel,” I answered.

“Were you never going to return my calls? I sent you texts but apparently you’ve been doing a very fine job ignoring them. I visited but your guards wouldn’t even let me enter. I’m your girlfriend for goodness sake! What did I do wrong Ash?! What—“ her voice trailed off and I knew it was tears that were certainly going to follow.

“You know better that I’ve been busy. A lot has happened over the past few weeks, I could have lost my life or been in jail—“
