Chapter: Seven

It has been a couple of weeks since Jess’s arrival and even though the boys didn’t admit it, it was clear that their plan to forget of Jess, was not working. Their wolves were agitated all the time and they themselves had a shorter fuse then they normal had. They felt irritated all the time, and their rest was nowhere to be found. It was clear that the distance between them and their mate had a big effect on them, but none of them wanted to admit defeat, it was against their nature.

The boys had a hard time through the past weeks and Jess also did, but for a completely different reason. After she was taken from the grand hall she was placed back into her old cell. Jess was left alone down in the cells and since she had no windows she didn’t know if it was day or night, but she soon found out the cells had a system, there was a very dim light that lit the halls, at night that dim light would be turned off completely. She was so relieved to see another person, since it had been two days with no contact with anyone, even though she knew that the person was a threat to her. She was still glad, she needed answers after that strange interaction with those strange people. She needed to know why they were keeping her, what had she done wrong? Everything was driving her crazy.

Sarah had come down the barely lit hall with something in her hand, Jess had jumped up from her sitting position on the cold concrete floor. Her wounds were burning with each step she was taking, but she didn’t care about it anymore.

“Hello.” Jess called out with a rough voice. The person was still not close enough for Jess to see. Her gripped on the steel bars tightened us the person finally came in view.

“Misa… Miss. I think there has been a mistake.” Jess called out to the woman, but she didn’t make any move to show that she was listening to Jess.

“I haven’t done anything wrong! I swear. Please is there anyone I ca call too, to clear up this mess.” Jess asked, the desperation as clear as day in her voice. Sarah gave a small smile in a moment of weakness after hearing that the human said that she had done nothing wrong. Sarah knew in hindsight that that was technically true, but the fact that the human didn’t know how wrong she was, was quite funny for her, but truthfully also a bit sad. Sarah did not want to, but she felt pity towards the human. Sarah regained herself and stopped in front of Jessica.

“Here.” she simply said and handed Jess a metal plate with food that in no means looked appealing. Jess made no move to take the food, she knew if she did then the only person that could give her answers would disappear in thin air.

“Please, there has been a mistake. I swear I haven’t done anything bad enough that should have landed me in a cell.” Jess said and took a step away from the steel bars, making her point clear that she wasn’t going to take the food before she gets some answers.

“Why am I here?” Jess asked and tried to sound as strong as she possible could, which honestly was as intimidating as a puppy in a bad mood.

“You either take your food or go another two days without it.” Sarah said in a cold voice. She didn’t sound harsh, more like a fed-up mother. Jess just stared at the woman.

“Please, where am I?” Jessica tried again this time her voice only held desperation.

“Fine.” Sarah said irate and moved away from the cell and started to move down the hall again.

“Wait.” Jess called out and moved against the bars again. Sarah stopped, but did not turn towards Jessica.

“I am sorry.” Jessica softly whispered. It was hard enough for Sarah to hear.  She knew that she should keep walking away from Jess, she had given her a fair warning, but she just couldn’t. Sarah sighed heavily before turning around and moving back to Jess. She held out the food and water, without a word. Jess slowly stretched out her arms and took the plate form Sarah.

“Thank you.” Jess said softly with her head held down. Sarah didn’t say anything back. She knew that she had already interacted with the human to much, so she just left – disappearing back into the dim lighted hall. That was the first time that the Delta and the human had interacted and over the weeks, very slowly, they became acquainted with on another. Sarah didn’t want to get to know the human at all, but Jess was a very tenacious and hardheaded human. After weeks of asking, Sarah finally caved and told Jess to call her Delta and Jessica formal introduced herself to Sarah as well. Their conversations were never long, basic things like hi and bye, thank you and pleasure, have a nice day. Every now and then Jessica would ask if she could speak to who ever was in charge, but Sarah never reacted to those questions. Sarah understood, why the human wanted to interact with her, she was the only person that Jess ever saw. The guards that protect the cells on the A level were all posted at the exits and entries, so if it was not for Sarah, Jess would have no contact with the outside world.

Sarah had suspected that that had change in the last week or two though when Jess started to ask strange questions.

Am I the only one in these cells?

Do you come and watch me at night?

Does anyone else come here?

The questions made Sarah nervous that someone would possibly take advantage of the prisoner, so she started to watch the exits and entries, only to find that at night her alpha snack into the A level cells. The one who had put her in charge – Alpha Xavier.
