Chapter One

I was tired! No scrap that I was absolutely drained from the longest travel I had ever had to endure in my entire seventeen years of living on this planet. At least the car ride was smooth, unlike the excruciatingly long plane journey I had suffered through less than two hours ago.

My ass was numb, my knees cramped, and my back ached. I wanted nothing more than to be able to hop out of this car and take a walk or better yet take a walk directly up a set of stairs to a bedroom preferably one with a large soft and warm bed for me to lay in.

I lazily dragged my eyes across the scenery as we drove, it was far from the city I had known my entire life. It was spacious, buildings small not like the towers that loomed over me in my home city in England. The sun was setting causing the most beautiful pink and red sky I had ever seen to glow around us.

“Are you hungry? We can stop at the diner” Uncle Jesse asked.

I shook my head motioning my answer of a no, watching as the brightly lit diner came into view up ahead.

“Come on you must be hungry kid” he prodded eagerly.

“I’m tired” I shot the idea down causing my uncle to send me a weak smile

“Maybe another night? it’s been a long travel you know with the flights and the two-hour drive” I added feeling the guilt for such a snappy retort on my end.

“Sure, thing kid, straight home it is” he glanced a smile at me.

Uncle Jesse was a handsome man with a square shaped face you know the ones? angular, sharp and masculine. Yeah, that was Uncle Jesse add a small stubbled beard and a combover of full brunette hair and that was him.

The truck fell silent for the rest of the ride to where I would now be calling my home. From what I can see from the truck window It was not as I had imagined, No instead they had cute little houses along the streets with small yards and driveways. Every house was a different size, not a single house on this street matched one another, each had their own unique look to them.

I don’t know what exactly I was expecting, hell the whole flight I had been imagining farms and what do the Americans call them ranches? Well, the few we had past mere ten minutes ago sure as hell looked like farms and even smell like farms. I honestly don’t know what the difference was between a ranch and a farm or even if there was a difference. It was definitely something I am going to need to correct myself on before meeting the towns folk.

I sighed a sigh of relief as the truck came to a slow down a small driveway. The house was delicate looking with its porch, it looks so warm and that was only from what I could see from my seat of the truck.

“Welcome to your new home kid, ill grab your luggage from the truck bed” he said hoping out the car and leaving me staring out at the house before me.

“This was it!” I whispered my new home! My new life! It felt weird I never imagined a life in America never mind a Texas cowboy town. I was feeling emotional, homesick even. I wanted nothing more than to close my eyes only to open them and be in my bed back home, or chilling with my friends causing God knows what type of mischief.

I gulped the tears from my throat, inhaling a large breath in order to compose myself. Suck it up Nina, life is as it is. I can’t change that nor can anyone else I silently coached myself.

I climbed from the car my legs barely capable of keeping me on my feet. I never wish to travel such a long distance ever in my life ever again. I rolled my shoulders, my neck turning side to side as the sound of popping followed. To stretch my muscles and crack my back felt so good, I need a soak in a hot bubble bath I was no doubt going to feel the consequences of the journey probably for the next seven or so days.

“You good kid?” Uncle Jesse asked and I snapped my head up to see him standing in the doorway of the house, my luggage on the porch by his feet.

“perfect” I forced a smile as I made my way towards the door that he held open.
