Zephyra's POV

The car dropped us off, and I marched for the door. I fumbled while trying to get the key in the lock, so Freya gently took it from me and let us in.

I dropped my purse on the table. “I’m going to take a shower.”

“I’m sorry, Zee. I really am.” Freya gave me a long hug.

I let out a ragged breath. “You never liked him.”

“Because I didn’t think he was good enough for you,” she said, pushing my hair away from my face.

I nodded, hating that tears continued to burn the backs of my eyes every time I thought back to what I saw. Also hating that my mind kept going to Lirael and the fact that he knew. That he practically spelled it out for me, and I told him he didn’t know what he was talking about.
