The driver’s scream came through the rain — high-pitched and terrified — followed by the sick sound of his bones breaking.

The bald man panicked and fired his gun blindly into the night. “What the fuck—?!”

He must have hit something, because a loud, pained whimper echoed through the dark. The sound was so high that Daphne covered her ears, realizing it was a call for backup. She glanced out the window and saw several pairs of glowing golden eyes watching from the trees.

His brows pulled together. “What are you talking about? I don’t hate you.”Katerina’s shoulders sagged as she started sobbing again. “I lost our baby, Storm…”She pointed shakily at her abdomen before covering her mouth as she wept. “And you’re standing right here, thinking about her again, aren’t you?”Storm wanted to deny it, but he couldn't. His thoughts wouldn't leave Daphne, and deep down, he knew it had nothing to do with the twins she carried.“I knew it,” she whispered. “I knew you’d hate me because our child is gone.”Storm frowned. “On the Goddess, that is not what this is.”“Then what is it?” She wrapped her arms around herself. “Ever since she ran away, you haven’t looked at me the same way!”Storm froze. “How do you know Daphne is missing?”He never told her. He had strictly ordered her disappearance to stay between a few trusted officers and his stepmother. The fewer people who knew, the safer Daphne would be. He had too many enemies. If word got out that his breeder was

“Rumors?” Storm’s tone deepened as he looked at both of them. “What rumors?”“It’s pointless,” Orion said.“Oh, I’ll tell you, so you can see just how conniving your Beta really is.” Morwen stepped closer to Storm. “Some of the servants have noticed your Beta getting inappropriately close to Daphne.”Orion huffed, nearly laughing as he looked from her to Storm. “You don’t believe this, do you?”But Storm was already deep in believing it. He remembered Orion holding Daphne’s hand once when she came to the headquarters to visit him, and there was that one night at the new spring ball. He had gone looking for Daphne after an argument, only to find Orion gently wiping a tear from her face at the outdoor fountain.Storm could feel a dangerous heat rushing up his throat.Orion’s throat bobbed as he noticed the change in Storm’s face. “Storm?”“Have you been bedding my woman?” Storm growled.Orion frowned at his accusation. “I’m your Beta. I would never betray you like that, and you know how

“Keep my private life out of your mouth,” Storm growled, despising how defensive he sounded about Daphne. Worse, he couldn’t get over the look Orion’s always had in his eyes whenever Daphne became the topic.“I’m your Beta. It’s my job to be in your business.” Orion winked as he patted Storm’s shoulder and left him alone in the room to drown again in his thoughts. Storm stared out the window. The rain continued to slash against the glass heavily, dark clouds swallowing the sky. Damn this weather.…….Storm drove back onto the estate, spotting Morwen waiting by the grand entrance before he even pulled into his private lot. He squeezed his eyes shut against the pounding headache behind his temples. His stepmother waiting for him meant another headache was waiting, and he was not in the mood today. One of his men ran over with an umbrella, standing outside the lot and waiting for him to come out.Storm got out and walked past him, not bothered about the umbrella or even the angry pouri

“East roads. Again,” Storm ordered, making the war room feel tense. The gamma on the other side of the long table opened his mouth, then wisely closed it. One of them, a young lieutenant named Marcus, cleared his throat. “We cleared that route twice already, Alpha.”“Then clear it a third time!” Storm yelled, hating having to tell them the right thing to do again. The room went quiet. No one wanted to be the one to say anything with him on a razor’s edge.It hadn’t stopped raining yesterday, and the rain kept lashing heavily at the windows behind them. Maps, tablets, and some almost empty coffee cups were littered across the table. Most of his men looked like they hadn’t slept a wink. Storm knew he looked worse. He hadn't closed his eyes since finding her room empty last night, not after seeing the ultrasound, and certainly not after her text. His jaw flexed as another update came through on one of the buzzing pack phones at the end of the room. Orion walked over to take it.“Nothin

The sound was so high that Daphne covered her ears, realizing it was a call for backup. She glanced out the window and saw several pairs of glowing golden eyes watching from the trees.“Wolves!” the creep beside her shouted and raised his knife with shaking hands, waving it around. Daphne pressed herself deeper into her seat so he wouldn’t accidentally cut her while moving it. Swearing loudly, the bald man and the one in the back jumped out of the car and fired their guns. Their defense lasted only seconds before a massive brown wolf lunged from the trees, knocking one of them to the ground as the rest of the wolves followed. Finding herself in the middle of a wolf skirmish was a nightmare. From w

“You little snake!” the bald man snarled, grabbing a fistful of her hair. White-hot pain seared her scalp. Twisting her torso with every bit of leverage she had, Daphne managed to drive her elbow into his throat. She wasn’t sure her hit would really affect him since all her self defense lessons usually ended with Storm kissing her distracted smile instead of correcting her mistakes, but it did. The man grunted and loosened his grip, giving her a few precious seconds to crawl forward. Her freedom didn’t last long enough. Another pair of hands grabbed her ankle and dragged her back through the mud.Daphne’s nails scratched uselessly at the wet ground as she cried out, “anyone! Help!”The men hauled her back toward the SUV while fighting her thrashing limbs the entire way.“Hold her still!” the creep she had kicked came into view. He looked furious as he glared at her.“She scratched the hell out of me!” the bald man yelled, nursing his throat.“I should just knock her out—” the creep
