Alex's POV

I carefully cradled the baby in my arms as I made my way down the stairs. Ryder, my clumsy roommate, was supposed to be helping me, but he was preoccupied with his phone, completely oblivious to the delicate bundle in my arms. The stairs were steep, and I felt a pang of anxiety as I imagined what could go wrong.

"Hey, Ryder, could you please pay attention? We're carrying a baby here," I called out, my voice tinged with frustration.

Ryder glanced up briefly, a sheepish grin spreading across his face. "Oh, sorry, man. I got caught up in this game. Didn't mean to zone out."

I rolled my eyes, trying to suppress my annoyance. "Well, the baby's safety should be our top priority. Let's focus, okay?"

We continued our descent, but Ryder's lack of attention was still evident. He stumbled on one of the steps, causing me to lose my balance. Panic surged through me as I felt myself tilting forward, the baby slipping from my grasp.

"Watch out!" I shouted, my heart pounding in my chest.
