Chapter 1.
Darcy “You’re prettier than the pictures. Your father didn’t mention the body.” Adam smirked, the buffoon I'm currently on a date with— a date my father set me on. His eyes kept roaming my chest and I felt so disgusted that I couldn't bring myself to thank him. I flashed a tight smile while suppressing the urge to flip him off and get the hell out of there. Adam could only talk about three things; himself, his father and my chest. Goddess forbids he asks me any questions about myself. Normally I would have actually flipped him off and left but I couldn’t. My father had a heart attack about 12 months ago. And ever since he’s been obsessed with finding a mate for me. This was my fifth blind date with another cookie cutter rich boy hoping to elevate his status by dating Alpha Grayson’s daughter, and Adam was the most presumptuous. He had cancelled and rescheduled three times before today. “Hey! Are you listening?” Adam snapped his fingers in my face across the table. Rude. “I’m sorry,” I smiled politely. “Something was on my mind.” “You’re a woman.” He scoffed. “What could you possibly be thinking about that’s more important than me?” That’s it! “We’re done here.” I got up. “What?" He gaped at me with a stupid look on his face. “Are you deaf or just stupid?” I rolled my eyes then picked up my purse. I took one last look at him on my way out. At least this one didn’t follow me. I hopped into my black Mercedes and made a beeline for Easton University. On my way there, my phone buzzed incessantly with calls from my Dad. I know it’s not his fault that Adam is a prick but he could have at least done a bit more research on who he was setting me up with. Once I pulled up in front of Adler Hall I picked up my phone and answered the call. “Yes?” “Adam says you were rude and left early.” Dad’s smooth voice came through the phone. He was already furious. “He was unpleasant.” “You’ve said that about every single boy.” “Well they’re all unpleasant.” I huffed. “Adam spent the entire date looking at my chest.” Dad sighed resignedly and said, “I’m sorry about that. I’ll find someone else.” “Please don’t.” I groaned. “You know this is necessary. Your mother—” I stiffened right as he caught himself. “I’m sorry.” He sighed. “ I just want you to have someone by your side when I’m gone.” “Dad...” “Just see the dates with an open mind.” He spoke softly. “You can go on another one this Friday.” But that was the problem. I couldn’t. I had less than zero interest in finding a chosen mate. Regionals were coming up soon and I had to practice twice as hard. I just didn’t have any time for boys. “I can’t. I won’t go on any more blind dates either.” I spoke firmly and hung up right as he was about to speak. Once I got inside my room, it was empty. I checked my phone and found a text from Sunny, my best friend and roommate, and another from my Dad trying to convince me to go on a blind date in a week. I ignored it and opened Sunny’s text: “GOT CAUGHT UP AT THE STUDIO. WILL BE HOME LATE. XOXO.” As I slipped out of my black gown, one of my skates caught my eye. 6pm wasn’t that late. I could still get an hour or two of practice in before Sunny came back. Besides, I was forming a habit of skating after those bad blind dates as a way to unwind. I sped to the school’s ice rink with a small smile on my lips. Nothing could bother me on the ice. I had loved ice skating ever since the Christmas my mother took me ice skating when I was 3. Mom was an Olympic figure skater whose praise is still sung more than a decade since her passing. The smile slowly dropped from my face when I saw a few cars outside the rink. That was strange. No one ever went there, unless there was a hockey game, but the season hadn’t started. I moved to the spot closest to the entrance and it was already taken by a black Hellcat. Oh no. Fuck no. Please don’t be his car. Please don’t be his car. Unfortunately, it was. Day ruined at 6:34pm. Killian Callahan, who has decided to make himself a thorn in my flesh, stood near the boards with his back to me, talking to a few of his teammates. He was taller and broader than the others. He turned to the side and I saw that his light brown hair was damp and stuck to his forehead. He smiled a bit as he talked, showcasing his dimples. He looked exactly like the kind of asshole who would drive a Hellcat . Then his green eyes met me and his face soured. He crossed the short distance between us and glared down at me like I was a bug stuck to the underside of his shoe. “What are you doing here?” he sneered. “None of your business.” I scoffed and rolled my eyes. “It is my business, Grayson.” Killian retorted. “We have a game tomorrow and you’re interrupting by trespassing.” “Trespassing?” I raised a brow. “Last time I checked, the rink belongs to the school and not the hockey team.” “Tell that to the schedule.” “I don’t give a shit about your schedule.” I snapped. “Clearly.” “What are you doing here, Miss Grayson?” Coach Swanson’s gravelly voice interrupted us. “Wednesdays are for the hockey team and not the figure skaters.” “Wednesday...” I trailed off in a small voice. Well that explained a lot. I blame Adam for postponing the date instead of agreeing to meet up on Tuesday. “I...I got confused about the schedule.” I said, pointedly avoiding Killian’s stupid smug face. “We all make mistakes.” Coach Swanson said slowly. “You can leave now, we have our first game of the season tomorrow.” “Yes Mr. Swanson.” I nodded stiffly and walked back to my car. Unfortunately my annoyance didn’t end with my encounter with Killian. I had left my phone in my car so I came back to 7 missed calls from Dad and 5 new messages. DAD: YOU HAVE ANOTHER BLIND DATE TOMORROW AFTERNOON. YOU'D BETTER SHOW UP. DAD: I’M BEING SERIOUS DARCY. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL. DAD: SKIP IT AND I’M FREEZING YOUR CARDS.Chapter 45.KillianGrayson’s arm was on my chest with her elbows digging into my face. Her legs were spread open wide with one draping on mine and the other hanging on the edge of the bed. How could someone lay down like this? She had already eaten two servings of Devon’s risotto and crashed immediately after. I picked up the plates and started walking downstairs. It was completely dark, save for the light from the TV. I walked down to the middle of the stairs and saw that the person on the couch was Chase. He was watching a nature documentary about giant cats. He barely looked up when I passed. I dumped the plates in the sink and was making my way back to my room when Chase spoke.“Can’t sleep?”It seemed like an innocent question but there was something about his tone that reminded me of the look he gave me back in the equipment room. I had to end this. I circled back and sat on the other edge of the couch. ”Yeah, something like that.” I mumbled in reply. “What about you?”He s
Chapter 44.DarcyDevon’s laughter filled the room. “Well well well, look who decided to make up.”My face heated up when I saw Devon’s and Chase’s gazes fixed on me. Killian got up and stood in front of me, blocking their view. I took that time to check if I had any slip-ups that would be considered as indecent exposure.“You must have really enjoyed yourself, Kil-boy.” Devon laughed and pointed at Killian’s crotch. He was practically leaning on Chase who had a stony look on his face.“This is what you came here to do?” Chase spat.“How did you know we were in here?” Killian asked.“I was able to send a text before my phone died.” I said as I got up.“You texted Chase?” Killian turned his neck to look at me.”No, I texted Rowan.” I tilted my head to see if he was standing behind them. “He’s not here?”“He had to meet with a T.A.” Devon shrugged with his hands in his pocket.I leaned down to carry my bag, but I accidentally caused a few of the hockey sticks to fall down.“Are you okay
Chapter 43.Killian“Fuck,” Grayson cursed again as she got up and walked to the door. She ran a hand over the space where the door knob was supposed to be then turned to me. “Why didn’t you wedge the door with something, you knew it was bad. You’ve fucking trapped me in here before!”“Are you saying it’s my fault we’re stuck here?” I narrowed my eyes on her. “The only thing I’m guilty of is checking if you got a concussion with how fast you dived in head first.”“I wouldn’t have done that if you didn’t push me against the wall.” She put her hands on her hips.“You did it first.” I retorted.“That’s because I wanted you to talk to me.”“Well you should have listened when I said ‘later’.”She huffed and crossed her hands. “This is such a non-issue, I’ll just call someone.”“Fine.” I crossed my hands and leaned against the wall. She brought her phone out of her bag and began to furiously tap the screen. After a few seconds she slowed down then looked up. “Hey, is your phone here? Mine i
Chapter 42.Darcy‘Stay.”“What?” I blinked. For a second I thought I heard him wrong. After everything that happened, that was the last thing I expected him to say.“Stay here.” He repeated. “Sleep here. You said we shouldn’t sleep apart or no one would believe we were dating.”I looked at his hand still wrapped around mine, then back at his face. He looked exhausted. His hair was messy and there was something in his expression I couldn’t quite place.“Okay.” I said. The word came out quieter than I intended. “Let me just change first.” I picked up a tank top and a pair of shorts and changed in the bathroom. When I got out, Killian was sitting up. I slid under the covers beside him and turned my face away from him.“You’ll fall off. Come closer.” He mumbled.Okay this was weird. Very weird. I had spent the entire day convinced that Killian was mad at me. Actually I had been convinced since yesterday. When he picked me up from the library yesterday his replies were short. Then he went
Chapter 41.KillianGrayson had spent a long time downstairs. It was basically midnight and she still hadn’t come up here. I was right, she was avoiding me. She definitely was awake this morning and thought I was a creep. She must have still needed some space.I had already finished my coursework, I was just blankly scrolling through documents and occasionally glancing at the door. Then I realized that I was waiting for her. I was waiting for Grayson.I felt a strong urge to work out or go on a run.“Fuck it.” I closed my laptop and got up from my desk then moved to my bed. I was half asleep when I felt my bed shift under the weight of someone. I smelt her rose perfume and knew it was Grayson. I felt her body brush mine and for some reason goosebumps spread across my arms. I immediately moved over to the other side of the bed, leaving enough room between us. I couldn’t have a repeat of what happened last night.I looked over to her, laying down at the very edge of the bed. A whole per
Chapter 40.DarcyThat car ride was too much.Killian was wearing a black compression shirt that showed off all the well defined slopes of his muscular body. I could even see his abs through that shirt. Why the hell was it so tight?Ever since my lewd act of perversion that morning, my body had practically been on fire, reacting to every little sense of Killian. For some reason, his cologne seemed so overpowering today. Citrus and sandalwood, along with the scent that is undeniably Killian filled my nose and made it so hard to think about anything that wasn’t him. I was acting like a total doofus, staring at his profile, his jawline, his messy hair, the rippling of his muscles under his shirt and the outline of his dick beneath his sweatpants. Killian was hanged! I felt it when I was pressed up against him. I wondered if it would feel to push up against him again.I shook my head really hard to get those thoughts to leave, but that just led to me getting weird stares from other studen
