The ride back to his house was smooth. I was quiet in his car, afraid to even make a move that was going to irritate him. I did not know anything about lycans. All I did know was either fake or it was mixed with fabricated lies. Lycans were our superiors. The highest in the hierarchy. They were all billionaires and trillionaires who owned all of the businesses in the world. They employ alpha werewolves and give out alpha titles to whomever they see fit. Everything was practically a transaction to them, and we did not mind because without them we would be poor. The higher your rank in their companies, the richer you become and the more chances that you become the alpha of your pack. Mike got in by chance after our marriage and he became one of the richest werewolf alphas in the world. The lycan kings often never come in sight but have managers who relay their information. Their packs and palaces are so heavily guarded that only a small percentage of werewolves have ever gotten in. There were mixed stories that their house was made of ice and diamonds, and there were others that said they lived in a dreadful forest and looked like beasts which was why they never showed their faces. I couldn’t believe that I was going to see everything for myself now. When we reached the house, we alighted and the guards opened the door for me. I stepped out and looked up at the house that I had passed so many times but did not know who owned it. Who would have thought that a lycan alpha owned this house inside of our pack? I wondered how many times he had been here in disguise and no one knew. I walked towards the front door with Alpha Dane beside me and I felt like this wasn’t reality. It felt like I was stuck in a dream that I was going to wake up from soon. I looked over at him and he offered me a little smile as we got through the first door. “I am going to instruct some guards to get your belongings from the palace so you do not need to go back there. Is that okay?” He offered. I nodded, “Yes.” “Great. Why don’t you go and rest now? The sun is already down and you’ll need your energy for tomorrow’s flight.” He stated as he removed his long coat and handed it over to one of the guards. I swallowed hard, reminding myself of why I was doing it. I have lived here for six years of my life, even though they were not exactly the most memorable. I did not have any life here because I was practically restricted from having any friends for six years. I was not going to miss anything here, but it always feels weird to not be here anymore. I offered him a quick nod before I followed the one guard who was going to take me up to the room where I was going to stay. I let out a quick sigh when we reached the room, and marveled at how big it was. It was almost the size of my room back at the palace. “Here is your room. If you need anything just dial the first three numbers on the telephone by your bed.” The guard told me, and I nodded with a kind smile. When the guard left, I locked the door behind him then stripped down my clothes and entered the shower. I stayed there for what seemed like forever as I washed everything down the drain. The pain of being stuck in that dreadful marriage for six years, and everything Mike had made me go through. I wanted to put it all behind me and focus on my new life. Hopefully, Alpha Dane would be kind enough to give me a job that was going to sustain me well. I did not know him and I did not know what he wanted to do with me, but I had a good feeling about this. After I was done, I slipped into a robe and went to the bed and immediately went to bed. The next day when I woke up, I realized that the sun was already out and I had overslept. I cursed as I got into the bathroom and freshened up, then wore my clothes from earlier before I went outside to meet Alpha Dane. The downstairs area was bustling with different maids and guards around. They were carrying luggage and when I came closer, I realized that they were my luggage. They had already done everything. I thankfully do not have to go back to the palace or ever see Mike’s face again. “Good morning, ma’am.” The guard from yesterday stopped me. “Good morning,” I responded. “These are my luggage, right?” “Yes, ma’am,” he nodded. “Alpha Dane is in the study. He asked for you to come and see him when you are ready.” “Take me to him then.” The guard escorted me to the study where Alpha Dane was. I kept squeezing my hands to relieve myself of the anxiety of meeting him again. What if he had even changed his mind about me? So many questions were going through my head until we reached the study. The doors were extremely large, stretching several feet up. There were two guards designated to open it, and he opened it and revealed the study. The first thing that caught my eye was the library. It stretched up so high that I had to raise my head to look at it. “Impressed?” I heard a voice come, and I turned to look at him as my hands tightened around my satchel. Alpha Dane was dressed very casually in a white compressed shirt and pants. He was leaning back in his seat, making me more nervous than I expected to be. “Yes. Your library is very beautiful.” I commented. “The building has been in my family for five hundred years. Most of these books do not belong to me. My grandfather was the biggest bibliophile that ever lived in his time. So much that he had to place books in all of our anonymous homes spread out in the werewolf packs.” He explained. I smiled, not sure how to answer that. “Come and sit.” He gestured at one of the seats in front of his big mahogany table. I went over to the seat and sat down. I looked down in front of him and he was signing some papers. He was probably working. He had just finished signing them when he raised his head and looked at me. There was a kind smile etched on his face. He placed his hands on the table, entwining them, “So how are you feeling after yesterday?” “I feel better than I was. Thank Goodness I didn’t need to go back home.” I sighed. I didn’t know if I would have been able to look at them act all lovey-dovey after everything that happened yesterday. “And how is your neck?” I placed my hands there instinctively. I had almost forgotten that it happened, “My neck is perfect.” “Good,” he looked down at the first piece of paper and he slid it to me alongside a pen. I caught it before it slid off the table. “Mike brought the divorce papers when you were asleep. You can sign them now and you will officially be parted from you.” I raised the pen and I didn’t think twice before signing my name on it. I closed my eyes as a wave of relief washed over me. I couldn’t even believe this. It was finally over. No more Mike, no more staying in that dreadful house, and no more dealing with contraceptives. It was all over. “Done.” I handed the papers over to him. He collected them and did one last look into them before. “Also, there is one more thing I need to tell you before we leave.” Alpha Dane adjusted his seating position, his eyes blazing into mine. “What is it?” I asked. “I just went through some laws this morning that skipped my mind yesterday. Even as the alpha, I have to follow the rules that I imposed myself,” his throat bobbed as he looked down at his hands and then back at me. “If you are going to come with me to my pack and stay, then you will have to marry me.”SOFIA'S POV I wasn't sure what to make of Jackson. He was extremely kind and warm to me and I was starting to feel really comfortable around him.I wasn't sure I was making the right decision, though. I had grown extremely fond of my sister, Amy Stone and was the major reason I was reciprocating Jackson's warmness. There was nothing else I knew about him prior when I met him, except that he was an enemy of Dane.A knock rang suddenly on the door. I turned, wondering who it was. “Who's there? Come in!” The door turned and in walked Jackson, smiling. I kept still, wondering what he had come for.“Are you busy?” “No, I'm not. Is there something you would like me to do?”“I was wondering if we could have go out later tonight, with Amy. We can eat out instead of having dinner here in the house.”The idea wasn't entirely bad and it seemed pleasing to my ears. “Fine! I'll get ready,” I muttered, grinning.“Alright then. I'm heading out now, so I'll have one of the drivers bring you to whe
SOFIA'S POV Once I was back in my room, I sat quietly on the edge of the bed, staring at nothing in particular. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get rid of the memory of the kiss from Jackson. It wasn’t even on the lips—just a soft brush on my forehead. But the feeling of it lingered like a scent I couldn’t shake off.I kept replaying it again and again in my head. The way he leaned in, the warmth of his breath, the way his eyes softened before he did it… Why was it stuck in my mind like this?I groaned, burying my face in my hands. “Ugh, get out of my head already!” I muttered to myself. The more I tried to forget it, the more intense it became. Like it had unlocked something I didn’t want to face. Something I wasn’t ready to accept. It was frustrating. I paced the room for a while, hoping to distract myself. But his voice, his words, his gaze—everything was still so fresh.Eventually, I just slumped back on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. Maybe… maybe I should sto
SOFIA'S POV The next morning, Amy and I decided to take a walk around the pack. The air was crisp and fresh, and the morning sun peeked gently through the trees. Birds chirped above us, and for the first time in days, the world felt somewhat normal—at least on the outside.Amy skipped beside me, holding my hand tightly. She was so full of life, pointing at everything she saw—flowers, butterflies, and even a tiny lizard crawling up a tree trunk.“Sofia! Look! That flower is purple, just like my favorite dress!” she giggled.I smiled faintly, brushing her hair behind her ear. “Yes, it’s beautiful, just like you.”She beamed at me, and for a brief moment, I allowed myself to enjoy the quiet. But then, footsteps crunched on the gravel behind us.“Can I join you?” a voice asked gently.I turned around to see Jackson standing there, his arms crossed casually, a soft look in his eyes. He wasn’t smirking or forcing anything—just looking at me calmly.I hesitated, my thoughts swirling. Par
SOFIA'S POV I felt like I was going crazy.A whole week. A full, dragging, miserable week—and still no sign of Sofia. Nothing. Not even a single whisper in the wind about her whereabouts.Every second without her felt like a blade dragging slowly across my skin.I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat. I couldn't breathe right. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her face—her soft, warm smile, the fire in her eyes when she was angry, the way her voice used to calm the chaos in my mind.I wondered what they had done to her. Where was she? Was she locked up somewhere? Was she hurt?My chest tightened painfully, and I ran a hand down my face. “Could she even still be alive?” I thought aloud, my voice barely a whisper. But no. I couldn’t let my mind wander there.I immediately shook my head, pushing the dark thought out. No. Sofia’s strong. She has to be alive. She has to be.“Alpha,” Mark said gently from across the room, his voice almost hesitant. “We’ve searched every known rogue territory. N
SOFIA'S POV Pondering more on it, it began to make more sense to me.How Dane had suddenly approached me, out of nowhere, and then—without even properly courting me—offered to marry me right away.Back then, I had found it strange. His interest had been… intense. Too intense. But I was vulnerable at the time. I was running from Mike, from a past that nearly ruined me.So when Dane showed up, with his calm words, charming looks, and powerful aura… I thought I had found something safe. Something solid. I thought I was lucky.Stupid.I clenched my fists as the realization crawled through my chest like fire.Maybe it hadn’t been love at all. Maybe I had only been chosen. Selected like some object. A vessel.*The one who could break the curse.*“I was so foolish,” I muttered under my breath, my voice trembling. “How could I not see it?”From the other side of the room, Jackson was watching me in silence. He didn’t interrupt. He didn’t have to. My thoughts were already dragging me deeper i
SOFIA'S POV As if all that he had said wasn’t enough, Jackson returned minutes later, this time with a sleek black tablet in his hand. His expression was unreadable, but the way he walked in—slow, confident—made my skin crawl. There was a strange silence in the room, the kind that made my chest feel heavy.I sat upright on the edge of the couch, still shaken by everything I had heard earlier. My mind was a whirlwind of confusion, betrayal, and fear. And now he was back, again.I glared hard at him, my brows furrowed tightly. I could feel the anger boiling in my chest, sharp and restless. He had already turned my world upside down with his words—what more did he want from me now?Why had he come again? He walked past the edge of the couch and sat beside me slowly, too slowly, like he was giving me time to speak… but I didn’t. I pressed my lips together and turned my face slightly away from him. From the corner of my eye, I saw him lift the tablet.“Do you still have doubt about al
