Chapter 4

Melissa stared at Jake's angry face for a while, she couldn't get how working for Williams is her fault. She moved closer to him from the back seat and placed her right palm on his right arm.

His stern gaze slowly left the road to her hand and she could vouch she heard something that sounded more like a warning growl. Melissa removed her hand with the fakest smile on her face as she moved back on her seat and rested her fate.

Her brown eyes were stormy as she kept blinking rapidly to avoid the tears burning in her eyes from falling. She just hopes she hasn't started to become more of bad luck or had literally done something bad that would bring the boy to such a problem.

All her life she had been misleading people and now she wants to escape from all of it, her horrible fate raised. She damped the corner of her eyes with her thumb and index fingers as she secretly prayed and hope she had not done the worst.

"What did I do" her voice sounded low, guilt spread through her face as Jake ignored her "Please talk to me, what have I done?"

Jake went silent for a while as he drove, the building seems so big with different gates that he had to present his ID before passing. There were men and women all over the house, they stood like statues, all putting on black suits, it almost looked like they were attending a funeral.

Even when Melissa shifted impatiently on her seat, expecting to hear maybe what she had done, Jake ignored her. He didn't say a word to her until they finally drive out the big compound to the street then to their school.

"It's okay if you hate me," Melissa said sadly "I deserve it".

She looked down at her bare thighs and sniffed, if only she had worn something bigger she would be able to cry in peace and wipe her face with her clothes and no one would know.

She opened her mouth weirdly and blinked rapidly, trying to push back the tears in her eyes. At least she doesn't want her friends to see her with red and swollen eyes. Even Leah might prefer to eat chips over her feelings, Sam would likely not buy the idea.

"No one deserves to be hated Melissa" Jake suddenly said, he stared at Melissa's face through the front mirror and smiled "Williams lost it when you went missing" he paused for some seconds "He somehow said Micheal didn't kidnap you and I knew where you are"

Melissa gasped, her small palms covered her parted lips as she stared at Jake in pity and awe.

"To be sincere I knew where you were the whole time but I decided to keep quiet" Jake turned to look at Melissa's shocked face then back to the road "Even when your friends cried over you like you were dead, I refused to say anything and Williams noticed"

"Why didn't you say anything?" Melissa asked perplexed.

"I love to see you dance" he stated "Each day when you dance at the club I would be there to watch. I just love you and felt you needed time to yourself" His palm clenched the wheel and he sigh "I have had these feelings since we start dancing together but I was scared to tell you"

Jake turned back to look at Melissa's now red face and smiled.

"One day, Williams traced me to my house" Jake continued "He promised to help me pay my debt of ten million dollars if I tell him where to find you" he paused for a while as if contemplating if he should talk or not "That day, I didn't hesitate to show him to your house and here you are"

"Why didn't he give you the money as promised?" Melissa asked.

"He said he will but he shall have me work for him for two years because I lied to him at first" Jake said sadly "I deeply appreciate and I don't mind staying with him for five years as long as he pays the money for me. My mom has diabetes and we would have been kicked out from our house if not for the love Williams showed because of you"

He went silent for a while and sniffed, his arms shocked as he drove, avoiding to gaze at Melissa's face. He could not afford to let her see him cry especially when he have something soft for her.

Although Williams will pay a little amount of money to his account and the rest goes to his debt until he clears it. Even if he had to work for five years, he was sure he would not be able to pay for Taxes, his mother's diabetes drugs, the debt, and house rent.

Jake's father is dead but deep down, Jake wishes to kill the man over and over again. If he had not gambled with people's money nothing like this would have happened. But the same, Williams is like an angel in disguise.

The fact that Williams even approved him going to college as long as he would drive Melissa anywhere and do other works assign to him makes him want to kiss his feet.

The rest ride to school looked like a scenario when two strangers are in a taxi. Jake look like the Uber man while Melissa looked like the customer. They didn't say anything even when Melissa's stomach began to grumble furiously.

"No one must know that you work for Williams" Melissa finally said, she ignored the weird look on Jake's face and grinned "Williams is a jerk, no one should know you work for him" she added.

"You are making the mistake ma'am," Jake said professionally "I am hired by Williams to work for his wife to be which is you"

"I can never be his wife" Melissa blurted out "We would assume we live in the same neighborhood and I don't have a car so you offer to drop me off" she suggested.

"I don't have classes together with you," Jake said "I mainly do an online courses and we only meet In time for ballet classes which was before, now we should face the contemporary dance"

Melissa rolled her eyes dramatically, she looked at the school ahead of them as she began to think of what to do or say.

"You are my boyfriend!" She blurted "I am cheating on Williams to date you"
