Mag-log inEsther
I sink into the throne, and I stay seated, staring at the walls and feeling lost. “Penny for your thoughts, my queen?” My uncle Felix bows as he enters the throne room. “Seeing you on that throne makes me emotional. You belong there.” “Don’t call me that, I’m not a queen yet.” I smile, relieved to see him. “But you will be our queen in a few days. I can’t believe you are leaving me.” I get down from the throne and rush to him. We hold each other in a hug and complain about how we are going to miss each other. Uncle Felix has always been more like my father more than my father has. “Was Charles an excellent host?” He holds my shoulders, watching my face closely, and I instantly know that he would know if I lie to him. “Uncle, I saw Charles drink human blood from the human until there was nothing left.” I wince as the memory comes to mind. “I didn’t want to judge him, but I couldn’t stop judging. How am I supposed to spend such a long time with someone when we don’t share the same values?” “All he knows is human blood. You will drink animal blood in secret and let him drink his human blood. You know the rules and you know how hard it is to stop drinking human blood. You have the experience.” “Well, we never killed anyone. We never drank until there was nothing left. Unless he did that to torture me.” I shake my head. “I can’t believe I’m going to spend an eternity with him.” “I’m sorry,” he gives me a faint smile. I hide my face in my hands. “My life is a mess. He hates my guts!” “Are you sure?” “I know that Charles acts all loving towards me around all of you, but he invited me to their castle to change my mind.” He gasps. “About the wedding?” I nod. “He hates this as much as I do. He also doesn’t want to disappoint his parents. It would’ve been better if we tolerated each other as friends, but we spent every moment plotting against each other.” “So, he asked for you to visit so that he could torture you?” He growls. “You shouldn’t marry him if he’s going to make your life hell!” “I don’t have a choice. You know that. Dad said he’d drag me to the altar.” “Your father loves you. If you stand your ground, he will eventually forgive you.” “I wish it was that simple. You have no idea how I feel, carrying this responsibility and this guilt," I swallow to get rid of the lump in my throat. "I’ve been carrying this guilt for more than 300 years. If I was a good daughter, had I listened...” “Don’t say that! Stop beating yourself up.” “No! I have to take responsibility for once. I wish I did things differently, and I wish I remembered my human life so that I’ll know how I made such a stupid decision.” “Forget about that. You can’t torture yourself forever. Focus on the future.” “Yay, that makes me very happy,” I say dryly. “Charles suspects that we don’t drink human blood. He had a buffet of people waiting for me, and I released them.” He grimaces. “If anyone ever finds proof that we don’t drink human blood anymore, it’s over for all of us.” “That’s what he wants. He wants to marry Joan, and he will not stop until he does.” I sit on the throne again. “Did you tell your parents?” Uncle Felix sits on the throne on my right. “No, they were concerned about poor Charles and the stress that I put him through for leaving without telling him where I was going.” “I think you should let Charles go. It’s not safe.” “But you know that my parents want the power, the army, the lands and the protection. Henry is going to come back eventually.” I sigh. “It must be hard being a firstborn. You have this huge responsibility. What’s worse is you are the only one who is their biological child.” “Speaking of responsibilities, I met Dominic.” His eyes widen. "Are you sure? How sure are you?” “I’m sure.” “Didn’t you meet some imposter?” He asks. “No.” I continue to tell him about the rogues and what I was injected with. I tell him a story about how I bravely fought Dominic and how I ran as I exited his penthouse. He watches me as I speak, his face completely blank. “I'm glad you are okay," he exhales. "So, the silver had no impact? At least now we know. Did you catch his scent?” “He smells like oud.” My uncle stiffens but quickly recollects himself. “Are you okay?” I ask him. “I’ve never been better. This is the information that I, we need. So, the serum didn’t work?” “Yes, I wonder what was in it.” “I hope we’ll soon find out. We’ll take your blood for testing.” “Uncle, why am I the only one who can trace Dominic’s scent? How am I supposed to kill him?” “I think you deserve to know the truth,” he sighs. “You can kill him by rejecting him.” “What do you mean?” “I think you know what I mean.” “No!” I vigorously shake my head. "That's not possible." “I’m so sorry.” “Are you sure?” I pace back and forth in the throne room. “He is really your mate,” he gets up, his face not revealing any emotions. “No! Don’t say that. How do you even know?” I ask him, my feelings caught between passion, fate, and duty. “It’s a prophecy by a witch.” “I think the witch is mistaken!” “Esther...” He says calmly. “He is our biggest enemy and our biggest threat. He can’t be my mate!” “You felt the bond too, didn’t you?” I break eye contact. Memories of me in his bed come flooding my mind, and guilt gnaws at me. “I’ll take that as a yes,” he gives me a faint smile. “Come, we need to prepare for the wedding.” “Oh! It’s morning already?” My voice trembles. “Yes, and Jane and your parents are in your room. They have just sent me a telepathy.” “Do my parents know about Dominic? And Jane?” He nods, making me feel a little hurt by how Jane denied it when I suggested that Dominic could be my mate. “Do my parents hate me for this?” “No, they know that you’ll do your duty and you’ll reject him when the time comes.” “Am I going to survive after rejecting him?” “Yes, but he won’t.” “Let’s go prepare for my wedding.” I walk towards the door. “I will see you at the wedding.” He gives me a faint smile. “No matter what you decide, I’m here. I wouldn’t want you to be unhappy.” I smile appreciatively.Esther‘Gee! I wonder what would’ve happened if I killed her,’ Dominic says sarcastically in my mind.‘Her minions were going to come here to kill us,’ I respond.Até walks towards me, my heart is beating so fast. She is here to remind us of who she is, I almost forgot this unpredictable part about her.“Your heartbeat is betraying you,” she grins. “Even though you are trying to keep a straight face, which is actually not that bad, your heart refuses to cooperate. What a weak vampire you are who can’t control her heartbeat when she really needs to.”“What do you want?”“I told you what’s I want,” she sighs. “Do I have to repeat myself over and over again? Anyway, here is my army, or some part of it. I have millions of vampires who are on my side. One wrong move and you will never see your daughter ever again. What I have just demonstrated here by killing my right hand man,” she looks on the ground at the body. “What I have just demonstrated is that I have nothing to lose, if you ki
Esther"But we need her," I say to him."After everything she did?" He grumbles. "Yes, even after everything she did."Dominic hesitates as he removes his hand. Até's wound closes as soon as Dominic lets go, and Até sighs with relief. "Phew! For a second. I thought I saw my life flash before my eyes." She glances at me and then at Jane. "Thank you, girls."Logan pushes the door open without knocking. "Até? What is she doing here?" he grumbles. "We invited her," Jane says. "You completely forgot about her affair with your father and that she tried to kill us?"Thank you, Logan," Dominic says. "I'm starting to suspect witchcraft. There's no way in hell we are suddenly Até's best friends.""Did I forget to mention that you don't have a choice?" She says with a smirk. The four of us perk up, waiting for her to do something. I begin to regret letting her in, but she is a queen of chaos, and who knows what she would have done if we refused to let her in? "I told you that nothing would
Esther“We don’t need your help,” I glance at Jane for at least a murmur of agreement, but her eyebrows are furrowed and she has a distant look on her face. “What are you thinking about?” I ask her.“Nothing,” she shakes her head. “This is interesting,” Até laughs. “I know a lot of things that you don’t know, you know. I know many vampires and let me tell you, war is coming, and you are going to need me.”“We don’t need you,” I say to her.“Are you sure?” She grins. “I could prove myself to you to show you what I mean. There’s so much that you don’t know here, and I could help you.”“We don’t need your help, not after what you did to my mother.”“But I loved your father,” she says. “Why would I hurt the daughter of the man I loved?”“What do you want to tell us?” I ask. “May I please get in the room so that we can talk?” Jane and I exchange a glance, and then a nod. We stand aside to let her in but we keep our guards up. With Até in the room, we need to watch each other’s
Esther“We are not undressing each other,” I protest. “Can we please focus on what’s important here?”“Fine,” Jane says with a smirk.‘You are childish,’ I roll my eyes at her. “Anyway,” I say out loud. “We need to work together for this. There’s no way I’m going to let Charles get himself out of this.”“But I don’t want to be part of...”“You already are part of this. There’s no way out, and if you give up complete ownership of this forest, someone else might come to claim it, it could be Felix, Boris, Enzo or William. Do you really want that to happen?”“I said I was giving it to you.”“And put the lives of so many werewolves in danger? Hell no, and incase you forgot, I have a daughter to protect, whom I love very much and she is growing where she is, without me getting an opportunity to hold her. Do you have any idea how much I’m suffering?” My voice breaks, but I keep it together. I need to practice more how to show emotions a little less. Dominic’s eyes flash with someth
Esther“What is it that I don’t know?” I look from Jane to Dominic. The entire room is silent, and the only thing they are doing is exchanging glances. “We never intended to kill Felix,” Jane sighs. “Uhm, Why?” I ask, confused. “Why have we been chasing Felix around if we were never going to kill him? After everything he did?”“Why is no one helping me out here?” Jane looks around. I follow her gaze and everyone is keeping a straight face. “We spoke about this when you were locked up by Felix in London.”“And no one thought they should tell me?” “I changed my mind, Jane,” Dominic says lazily. “But you didn’t think of telling us first?” Logan asks. “Telling who what? Could someone please tell me why you are all suddenly best friends with Felix?”“We wanted Felix to live so that he can feel how it is to be a servant,” Dominic says. “ Although his minions think they are doing this for themselves, they are technically working for him, and you know there’s nothing that Felix
JeanetIt’s easy for us to fight the guards, and most of them end up running when they see us approaching.Hilda’s wolf and I run towards each other the moment our eyes meet. I hold her in a hug. We head to the castle and I look through the closet to find clothes for the wolves. I mostly find old clothes from the 1800s. I am beaming at Hilda and complementing her dress when the entire dining area goes silent, the scents of more wolves filling the area. . “What is he doing here?” Valerie says between her teeth. We all go outside and find out that a fight is already breaking out. “Not my dress,” Hilda groans. “I know,” I sigh in response. The werewolves shift, and we waste no time joining in on the fight. I throw a punch at one of the invading werewolves the same moment as I get surrounded by more werewolves. The more we fight, the more other wolves approach us. No one still has any idea of is leading the attach, until I catch a glimpse of Dominic. “So, you thought you w
