LOGINEsther
My father and I walk down the aisle on the beach, wearing a designer gown by Alonzo, the most expensive vampire fashion designer. I smile back at about 200 smiling vampires who have the highest ranks as we walk. I avert my gaze to Charles on the altar, and he sheds a tear, getting a reaction of "awwww!" from those who believe that he is not faking it. Bernard, Charles's father, officiates the wedding, and I zone in and out of Charles' speech about how much he loves me. After saying our vows, we all take a large private plane to San Bernardino, one of the Du Pont Forests. We go to the beautifully decorated garden, and as expected, Margaret outdid herself. "How did I do?" She fidgets nervously with her hands. I pause for dramatic effect. "You outdid yourself," I smile, and her face immediately lights up. I hold her in a hug, telling her that I'm glad we are sisters, but in my heart, I secretly wish that Charles wasn't the reason that brought us together. Charles and I sit in front, listening to unending speeches and vampires pledging their alliance to us. Charles holds my hand the entire time and continues to kiss my cheek every five minutes, eliciting jealous stares from Joan, who struggles to keep her eyes off us. ‘You might be getting attention from him, but he’ll be in my bed tonight,’ she sends me a telepathy. ‘You have been his mistress for 800 years,' I retort, while my father, King Richard, speaks about how happy he is to have gained a son and a new family. 'We were going to get married eventually until you and your pathetic family showed up.' 'What were you waiting for? Were you in a talking stage? That must have been the longest talking stage in the history of talking stages. Why are you doing this to yourself?’ I smirk at her, and everyone laughs, thinking I'm smirking due to what my father probably said. 'What did you say to her?' Charles send a telepathy. 'We were just talking, nothing much. I was telling her to know her place.' He glares at me for a second before quickly turning his frown into a smile. Charles gets up to speak, his gaze soft, making me almost believe that he cares about me. "I have finally found my one. After searching for centuries. I thought I was going to die a two-thousand-year-old bachelor until I met her." He pauses as everyone laughs, his eyes and smile focused on me. "When our parents suggested that we get married, I was overjoyed. My father threatened to force me, but I told him that there was no need. I had been crushing on Esther for centuries, but who could ever approach the beautiful and amazing Princess Esther?" Everyone murmurs in agreement. He raises a glass of red wine. "To Esther, my future queen, who has always been able to bring out the best in me." We all clap, and I return his fake smile. I get up to speak, not knowing what to say when we hear a commotion taking place near the garden entrance. King Bernard, my father-in-law gets up and comes to the front. "Don't be alarmed. It's our guards bringing the poison amongst our species, the vampires who drink animal blood!" He says, his face marred with contempt. I gaze at my family, and my father shifts in his seat as King Bernard talks with so much passion and anger about these vampires and their disrespect. "Hold on, my son has a suggestion." King Bernard gazes at Charles as they speak telepathically. "My son here wanted to suggest that our future queen's first job will be to bring these vegetarian vampires to justice. Who agrees?" Everyone's hands go up, including my family. Charles gets up to speak. "I would like to honor our future queen by giving her this honorable task, which I know she will carry with grace and honor. The essence of being a vampire is drinking human blood, and these vampires who call themselves 'vegetarians,'" he grimaces as he says it. "These vegetarians show that they are ashamed of the essence of their very being. So, why should they exist?" All the guests murmur, and I watch my family nodding along. "We say they should get thrown into the dungeon, and my beautiful queen should lead this trial tomorrow," Charles bows to me, and I smile and nod. 'Did you feed enough this morning?' Jane sends a telepathy, the nervousness in her tone unmasked. 'Yes, I wouldn't want you all to suspect me of exposing myself on purpose.' 'That is not true. You know we care about...' 'Don't you dare, Jane!' I interject. 'I never expected this betrayal from you. How could you not tell me that Dominic is my mate?' Her face drops. 'Look, Esther, I was trying to protect you.' 'Oh! You are really good at that, aren't you? You always know what's good enough for me. You thought I was going to go after him if I knew. You never trusted me.' ‘This is more complicated than you think.' I ignore her, and focus my gaze on my parents who are looking at each other, their changing facial expressions informing me that they are in deep discussion. I get up for my speech, and I try to look at Charles with what everyone will assume is love as I string together quotes from movies about love. "My lady, may I have the first dance?" Charles kisses my cheek when I'm done and then extends his hand to me. We slow dance as I think about the vampires whom I'm going to have to sentence to death because they got caught and my family haven't yet.EstherI'm sitting in the center of my bed, my arms around my knees, and I can't stop crying. I’m trying to think of a reason I feel this way. There’s this emptiness in me that I can’t explain, but I shrug it off as the loss of my family that I’m experiencing. It has been over 300 years, but this is new to me since I just woke up.I sigh at the irritating sound of the knock on the window. I already know who it is through the scent. When I finally open, Dominic gracefully throws himself into the room.“I’m back,” he grins.“My heart is overflowing with joy,” I glare at him.“I know,” he beams, and it transforms his face. I look away to try to get rid of the mental image, to remind myself that I’m married.“What are you doing here? You might get caught.”“You care about me?” He places a hand on his chest in mock surprise.“No,” I roll my eyes. “What do you want?”“My wolf thought we should see our mate. The least you could do is say hi.”“Leave.”“Okay,” he nods.I eye him expectantly,
Jane “Jane, what was that?” Dominic's tone is gentle but firm. “I don’t trust them. Okay? If by some miracle you and Esther ended up together…” “Given the way you hate me these days," he interjects. "I’m surprised that you were rooting for us when we were human.” I glare at him for his dramatic words. “You know how realistic I am, Dominic, and when we were human, the chances of our family accepting your relationship with Esther were pretty low, but I knew that it was possible for you two to be happy together. Right now it's different…” “How is it different right now?” “Do you think that if you two were together, the werewolves, witches and warlocks would jump with joy? You are a hybrid, Dominic, and Esther is a vampire. The werewolves can’t let you two rule. It will be like letting vampires take over.” “I can let all that go if she wants to be with me,” he protests. “I never wanted to be a Lycan king, anyway.” “Do you think they would let you? They might kill her to…” “I almo
Esther“Uncle,” I look from Uncle Felix to Louis, guilt gnawing at me. “I couldn’t do it.” I shake my head.“Not this again,” Uncle Felix mumbles under his breath.“Again?” I ask, confused.“Yes, again!” He snaps. “You do this every damn time! What was your reason for not rejecting him this time around?”“I, I just couldn’t do it.”“I can’t do this,” he says, getting up and pacing the room, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I can’t deal with any of it. I wish I were the one who had died so that your parents would be the ones to deal with this mess. Being responsible for someone as selfish as you is tiring.”“I will reject him.” I don’t care about the desperation in my voice. It’s hard to see my uncle’s opinion of me changing and him losing his trust in me. “I just need a little time and patience...”“I’ve been patient long enough,” he hits the table. Louis and I get out of the way in time. We watch the table crumble, causing the dishes and plates to scatter on the floor, some of them
HildaWe decided to stay in a hotel in London to avoid letting other pack members get attacked by Felix’s army. We are all silent and pacing back and forth in the living room of the penthouse when the elevator doors open and Alpha Dominic walks out of the elevator, his face marred with a look I cannot describe. “Dominic!” Jane rushes to his side. “Goodness! You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”“I might as well have.” He looks down at her. I’ve never seen Alpha Dominic like this before. It almost scares me. He looks broken and helpless. “You saw her,” Jane says. “I met her,” Alpha Dominic nods. “We are too late.”“We will find it,” Valerie says to him. He doesn’t reply. Instead, he sinks into the couch and glances at Aiden, who is sitting on another couch. Aiden’s eyes drop.“Don’t feel guilty, Aiden,” Alpha Dominic says gently. “I shouldn’t have left her,” Aiden says in a low voice. “I was supposed to protect...”“They would’ve killed you!” Alpha Dominic interjects. “I’m glad that
EstherI’m the one who stands on my tiptoes, and I wrap my arms around his neck. He kisses me back, but then I pull away. This feels wrong, even as I try to justify it by saying to myself that I’m doing this to distract him and weaken his defences. “I’m sorry,” he says. “No, I’m the one who kissed you first.”He puts his arms around my shoulders, holding me and kissing the top of my head. I don’t make any effort to move away. He is the first to let go. Then, he places his index finger under my chin and looks into my eyes. “What are you doing?” I try to snarl at him, but it comes out as a whisper. “Looking at you.” His eyes are dark, and there’s no smile on his lips. I have to kill him before it’s too late. He might be putting a spell on me through his beautiful eyes. I kiss him hungrily. He kisses me back, his hands on my waist, and I place my hands on his chest, ready to use this opportunity to get it over with. He doesn’t seem to mind, he pulls me closer. I have no idea how my
Esther“What do you think?” I snap. “I think you won’t succeed,” he vibrates behind me with a chuckle.“Let me go so that we can see if you are telling the truth.”“If you want me to let go, you have to promise to leave with me.”“You want to kill me.”“No,” he sighs. “If I kill you, I die.”I try to think of where and when I heard these words. I know I heard them somewhere, but I forgot where. “These words sound familiar.”“Because they are familiar,” he drawls. “Let me guess, we were together in a past life and you said those words?”“Something like that,” he chuckles. “This isn’t funny. I don’t know what I did to deserve you as a mate. You are one person I really hate.”I feel him stiffen, but he doesn’t say a word. “Please let me go.” I feel the energy of witches, warlocks and werewolves in this room, as if they are not far away. The room looks like a hotel room, and the white curtains are closed. “Where are we anyway?”“We are in a room in the forest. When they found out you
