Esther
My father and I walk down the aisle on the beach, wearing a designer gown by Alonzo, the most expensive vampire fashion designer. I smile back at about 200 smiling vampires who have the highest ranks as we walk. I avert my gaze to Charles on the altar, and he sheds a tear, getting a reaction of "awwww!" from those who believe that he is not faking it. Bernard, Charles's father, officiates the wedding, and I zone in and out of Charles' speech about how much he loves me. After saying our vows, we all take a large private plane to San Bernardino, one of the Du Pont Forests. We go to the beautifully decorated garden, and as expected, Margaret outdid herself. "How did I do?" She fidgets nervously with her hands. I pause for dramatic effect. "You outdid yourself," I smile, and her face immediately lights up. I hold her in a hug, telling her that I'm glad we are sisters, but in my heart, I secretly wish that Charles wasn't the reason that brought us together. Charles and I sit in front, listening to unending speeches and vampires pledging their alliance to us. Charles holds my hand the entire time and continues to kiss my cheek every five minutes, eliciting jealous stares from Joan, who struggles to keep her eyes off us. ‘You might be getting attention from him, but he’ll be in my bed tonight,’ she sends me a telepathy. ‘You have been his mistress for 800 years,' I retort, while my father, King Richard, speaks about how happy he is to have gained a son and a new family. 'We were going to get married eventually until you and your pathetic family showed up.' 'What were you waiting for? Were you in a talking stage? That must have been the longest talking stage in the history of talking stages. Why are you doing this to yourself?’ I smirk at her, and everyone laughs, thinking I'm smirking due to what my father probably said. 'What did you say to her?' Charles send a telepathy. 'We were just talking, nothing much. I was telling her to know her place.' He glares at me for a second before quickly turning his frown into a smile. Charles gets up to speak, his gaze soft, making me almost believe that he cares about me. "I have finally found my one. After searching for centuries. I thought I was going to die a two-thousand-year-old bachelor until I met her." He pauses as everyone laughs, his eyes and smile focused on me. "When our parents suggested that we get married, I was overjoyed. My father threatened to force me, but I told him that there was no need. I had been crushing on Esther for centuries, but who could ever approach the beautiful and amazing Princess Esther?" Everyone murmurs in agreement. He raises a glass of red wine. "To Esther, my future queen, who has always been able to bring out the best in me." We all clap, and I return his fake smile. I get up to speak, not knowing what to say when we hear a commotion taking place near the garden entrance. King Bernard, my father-in-law gets up and comes to the front. "Don't be alarmed. It's our guards bringing the poison amongst our species, the vampires who drink animal blood!" He says, his face marred with contempt. I gaze at my family, and my father shifts in his seat as King Bernard talks with so much passion and anger about these vampires and their disrespect. "Hold on, my son has a suggestion." King Bernard gazes at Charles as they speak telepathically. "My son here wanted to suggest that our future queen's first job will be to bring these vegetarian vampires to justice. Who agrees?" Everyone's hands go up, including my family. Charles gets up to speak. "I would like to honor our future queen by giving her this honorable task, which I know she will carry with grace and honor. The essence of being a vampire is drinking human blood, and these vampires who call themselves 'vegetarians,'" he grimaces as he says it. "These vegetarians show that they are ashamed of the essence of their very being. So, why should they exist?" All the guests murmur, and I watch my family nodding along. "We say they should get thrown into the dungeon, and my beautiful queen should lead this trial tomorrow," Charles bows to me, and I smile and nod. 'Did you feed enough this morning?' Jane sends a telepathy, the nervousness in her tone unmasked. 'Yes, I wouldn't want you all to suspect me of exposing myself on purpose.' 'That is not true. You know we care about...' 'Don't you dare, Jane!' I interject. 'I never expected this betrayal from you. How could you not tell me that Dominic is my mate?' Her face drops. 'Look, Esther, I was trying to protect you.' 'Oh! You are really good at that, aren't you? You always know what's good enough for me. You thought I was going to go after him if I knew. You never trusted me.' ‘This is more complicated than you think.' I ignore her, and focus my gaze on my parents who are looking at each other, their changing facial expressions informing me that they are in deep discussion. I get up for my speech, and I try to look at Charles with what everyone will assume is love as I string together quotes from movies about love. "My lady, may I have the first dance?" Charles kisses my cheek when I'm done and then extends his hand to me. We slow dance as I think about the vampires whom I'm going to have to sentence to death because they got caught and my family haven't yet.Esther‘Esther, are you okay?’ Uncle Felix asks telepathically, and this is all it takes to almost bring me back to reality.‘Uncle?’‘Yes, it’s me. I’m sorry I couldn’t make it on time. I feel so guilty. Are you okay?’ he asks.‘It’s okay, I’m okay.’‘I’m glad you are. I was told that Dominic found you and left with you. So, Henry is dead?’‘He is,’ I sigh. ‘Thank goodness, he has been a nuisance for a while. Are you the one who killed him?’‘Dominic did. I can’t believe I have been fighting for myself my whole life, and then I had to rely on Dominic to fight Henry for me.’‘Oh! Him? He sent us a report, by the way. I hope he is doing this because he is smitten with you. This means the rejection will also hit him the hardest.’Rejection? I forgot about that part. I try to keep calm, but the thought of rejecting Dominic doesn’t make me feel giddy. ‘Of course, uncle.’‘King Bernard found out that we don’t drink human blood anymore.’‘No! How? What did he say?’I try to move to sit up,
Esther“Let’s fuck for one last time,” the words tumble out of my mouth before I get a chance to stop myself.“What?” His eyes darken.“Well, I figured that since Pretty has a mate, we should probably...” I trail off. “Probably do what?” he arches an eyebrow.“You are doing this on purpose,” I groan.“I want you to say it,” the corners of his lips slightly curl up.“Uhm, I said, can we please fuck for one last time? Pretty has a mate, so I want to have sex with my mate.”“What you’ve just said is such a turn on,” his pupils dilate. “That wasn’t me,” he shakes his head. “That was Apollo.”I get up and stand in the nook before facing him fully. I straddle him and place my arms around his shoulders. He quietly watches me, and then he puts his hands on my waist. I smile when I feel his bulging manhood. He just stares at me, his face unreadable, and I stare back. In all my three hundred years of existence, I’ve never felt this way around anyone.“So, right now, you want us to fuck?” he s
Esther When the elevator doors of the top floor open, Dominic and Pretty’s heads snap in my direction. The tension between them is palpable. I take a single glance at them and head to my room without saying a word. When I close the door, I come face to face with Dominic. “Ugh!” I groan. “You don’t have to show off. I get it, you are fast.” “Where were you?” He asks quietly. “Out?” I say nonchalantly. “You decided to go outside even when almost everyone is accusing you of attempted murder?” He growls. “You are doing this again, doing exactly the opposite of what you are told to do. Didn’t Hilda tell you to stay in your room?” “Are you seriously scolding me right now?” I roll my eyes. “Yes! I might as well do, because you never listen. If you have a death wish, will you please wait until you are at the Du Pont Forest or the Carnegie Forest? At least, I won’t be responsible for you.” “Lucky for you, I’ll be out of your hair in a few days, and you will no longer feel the burden of
Dominic I try to read the emails from other alphas who have suggestions on how we should approach the vampires, but my mind is occupied by something else; Pretty. After rescuing Esther from Henry’s clutches, and after my meeting with Aiden, Josh notified me that Pretty has been sneaking around with Kevin. Kevin is Elder William’s son, who happens to be Pretty's fated mate. She confessed that she loved him, and I told her I didn’t mind their relationship. I offered to set her free and keep my alliance with Oscar, but as expected, she refused. If I weren’t immortal, I would think she is plotting to kill me and take over with her mate and her brother. ‘See? I told you that she is no good!’ Josh sends me a mindlink. ‘Pretty? What has she done?’ ‘No! The Vampire.’ He knocks on the door of my study. ‘She has a name! Come in.’ ‘Not after what she did!’ “Are you going to tell me?” I snap. “We found wolfsbane in a salad in the main kitchen,” Josh closes the door, and holds on to the
Esther Great! From now on, I must either sleep with one eye open or I must not sleep at all. “Princess Esther, how are you feeling?” Hilda’s expression turns serious, diverting my attention back to her. “Well, here I am,” I shrug. “Let’s go to my apartment. I want you to tell me everything.” “Are you sure?” “What do you mean?” She frowns. “You are not going to eat me. Are you?” “Ha, ha.” I roll my eyes. “Let’s go then.” She pulls me by my wrist. “You know that Josh hates me, right?” I ask as we walk back to the pack house. “He doesn’t hate you.” I raise my eyebrows. “He is just being protective,” she protests. “You two are going to argue because of me.” “I’m allowed to make my own choices. He knows that, and he accepted that I’m not going to let you roam around alone.” “Why?” I ask. She looks around. “I’ll tell you when we get to the apartment.” We practically stroll to the pack house, and she gasps as I tell her about Henry, how the plane fell into the water and how
Esther ‘For what it’s worth, princess. I really loved you, and I hoped that one day you would love me back, but it was always him.’ Henry’s words replay in my mind, or more like haunt me. Those were his last words, and I wreck my brain trying to make sense of the meaning behind those words. I have just opened my eyes. Dominic and I are cuddling for one last time, I suppose. I stay in position, not wanting to move, as a single movement might set him off and remind him that I’m not the one he is supposed to be cuddling. The interrupting sound of a knock makes me sigh and almost groan in frustration. The moment the scent alerts me of who it is, I instinctively get out of bed and head to the window, wearing Dominic’s t-shirt. “What are you doing?” Dominic looks at me from the bed, showing no intention of moving. “Leaving,” I whisper. Pretty knocks for the second time, but Dominic still seems unbothered. “Your scent will still remain in here, and I also smell like you.” He says non
