Werewolves are under the protection of Dominic, the immortal lycan with an untraceble scent. Princess Esther is the only vampire who can trace the elusive Dominic's scent, because she is his mate. Dominic needs to get rid of Esther to survive and continue to protect the werewolf species against vampires.

The stranger's blue eyes beg me to save her, but I watch in my perfected blank stare as Charles Du Pont sinks his fangs further, draining the life out of her. He throws her lifeless body on the floor as if it’s a rag-doll. He looks up at me, his amber eyes glowing with pleasure and without any trace of blood on his lips. “This is one of the best things about being a vampire. Power!” He grins. “It’s amazing, isn’t it?” I murmur in agreement, my stomach churning in disgust as I try not to give him the reaction he wants. “So, why do you hate drinking the blood of life?” He grins. “I’ve heard stories about you and your choice of... Food.” “And you believed them? How would I survive if I didn’t drink blood?” “Oh! My love," he says with an exaggerated snd obvious fake concern. "Why didn’t you stop me from drinking alone?” “You seemed hungry,” I shrug. “I knew you would make a perfect bride, and you will always put my needs first." He grins. "I have a surprise for you. Come with me.” I silently follow him. We take normal human steps through the castle, and it takes everything in me to remain patient. He keeps stealing glances at me, his smirk not leaving his face. "Honey," I say with a fake smile. "The suspense is killing me. Can't we just speed up a little?" "Patience, my love. We will get there." He smirks. 'Charles, how long are we going to play this game?' I send a telepathic message. 'What game?' He raises a brow. 'The game of you pretending to be in love with me in front of your family and mine.' 'Oh! That? We can play until you back out or later ask for separation. I was hoping that you would back out before the wedding.' He sighs. 'Why don’t you back out? I have more to lose than you.' 'Don’t be selfish, I also have so much to lose. You will be the one who leaves this sham of a marriage first.' When we finally get to one of the guest rooms, he swings the door wide open. I gasp when I come face to face with about five humans. Three of them are younger than 17, and then two are about older than 70. “Here’s your buffet, my lady." He bows, then he moves and stands behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders, making my skin crawl. "Pick whoever you want. You are about to be my wife, and it will be my duty to provide for you.” He whispers. “Who do you think deserves your mercy?” he says out loud. All terrified eyes look at me expectantly. They don’t have to say anything for me to know that every person in the room hopes that I will pick them. I randomly point at a boy who looks like he could be 14 years old. Charles moves at his vamp speed and makes him kneel in front of me. His wide grin making my stomach churn. “You have chosen well.” “I suppose we have to hypnotize him before we let him go?” I ask him. “Let him go where?” He asks with a smirk. “Home? You said...” “You misunderstood me, my love. I meant to save from this miserable world. It’s our job to save them, you know.” My eyes widen, and his lips curl up. “Please, please, please...” The boy looks up at me, his palms put together as he begs. I swallow uncomfortably. “I’ve had my fill two days ago. I’m still okay.” “Just as I suspected. You don’t drink human blood. Do you?” “I...” “Drink!” He motions towards the boy, his voice low and dangerous. He pauses, clearly speaking to someone through telepathy. 'That was Joan, the real love of my life. When I come back, you are going to drink this boy's blood.' 'You moron!' I glare at him. 'You will drink when I come back!' He swooshes out of the room. Five minutes later, the room breaks into a chaos of bloodcurdling screams and tears of humans who are begging me to save them. I pace around the room, panicking. “Stop!” I raise my hand. “I need to think.” “I’m going to spare your lives for one more day. If I leave and never come back, he is going to kill all of you.” The room breaks into chaotic panic again. “Do you want to die?” I hiss, baring my teeth at them. They all fall silent, moving to the furthest corner of the room. “If I release you, the vampires will kill you before you reach the doors of the castle. If you escape with some luck, there are more vampires in this forest. So, I’m giving you one more day. I’m going to run away, and I will still find you here tomorrow, I hope I would’ve come up with a plan.” “Please don’t leave us,” the boy cries. I close my eyes, and I bolt out of the room. The heavy door lands in a thud as I close it. I write a note, afraid that if I send a telepathy, Charles might come back to ‘check up on me.’ *Don’t let anyone touch my food, out for a walk. Will be back soon.* I stick the note on the door of the guest bedroom, and I listen for footsteps around the castle. I move in one swift motion to the main doors, and the guards bow before opening the doors for me. “You are finally here," Margaret, Charles’ sister, appears out of nowhere. "I was starting to get bored. Are you ready to see the garden? The decorations for your wedding reception are beautiful.” She squeals in excitement.EstherMy words are met with silence. I wait and wait for Dominic to say something, anything, but he doesn’t.“You don’t believe me?” I turn to glance at him.“I believe you,” he says matter-of-factly. “Then, why aren’t you saying anything?” I shoot an accusatory look in his direction. “Because I’m trying to think of reasons why Felix would keep our baby, and it is obviously to protect himself.”“Why are we not killing Felix?” I ask. “If he dies, that would be an easy fate for him. He needs to suffer first, and…”“Tell me you are joking,” I interject. “Why won’t you let me finish speaking?” He says calmly. “Fine. Speak.” I fold my arms. “You know that vampires still think that Charles killed his father. We need to prove what Felix is, you know that if we kill him, we all get attacked. I’m not going to let the werewolves, witches, and warlocks die for this.”“I’m going to get my baby.”“Esther, please," he pleads. "This could be a trap.”“Do you think that perhaps the witch creat
Esther Hilda and Josh have cooked dinner for everyone who was in England. I spend some time looking for something to bring, and I find a bottle of wine in one of the shops. “Princess Esther, I’m so happy to see you,” Josh beams when I walk in the apartment. I smile back and hand the bottle of wine to Jane. “Josh, if you want my mate, please tell me.” Dominic’s lips curl up a little. “I’m glad that now you know how it feels.” Josh grins. “You made my life unbearable by pretending to be in love with my mate.” Hilda suddenly looks shy. “Stop it, Josh.” “Yes, ma’am.” Josh walks to her and kisses her on the head. He turns around and faces me. “I still can’t believe that this is Dom. It’s strange, seeing him in love.” “He is insufferable,” Jane groans. “When he was human, I thought he was the worst. He was a fool in love, but right now, I think he is dreadful.”Logan murmurs in agreement. “Yeah, like I said, you can say such words about him.” Josh pulls a seat at the head of the ta
Esther “Goodbye, Esther. I’m staying.” Louis gives me a faint smile at the airport. “Don’t you think that Felix will come looking for you?” “I would kill him. Besides, I have my own crew of vampires who are on my side. I’ll be fine.” I hug him because I feel like he needs it. Everyone is seated when I get on the private jet. There’s an empty seat next to Dominic and another next to Charles. I choose to sit next to Charles, who glances at Dominic, a huge grin on his face. It’s the first time I’ve seen him smile since last night when we met. “Is that necessary?” I whisper. “Very much.” The smile doesn’t leave his face. “Logan, will you please switch with me? I need to speak to Jane.” “I don’t know, Charles is older than me, and he is soon going to be king, so…” Charles nods. “Thank you, Logan.” “But I’m your sister,” I protest. “Fine,” Logan groans. “I heard you were an absolute delight when I was away,” I whisper to Jane. “You have no idea, they all loved me.” She
Esther“Can we talk about it later?” He says to me while glaring at Jane. “That’s two,” I remind him. “I know.”The entire table is quiet; everyone pretends to be focused on their food. I glance at the man who is sitting opposite Jane. They said his name is Aiden, and he has been stealing glances at me. “Are you okay, Aiden?” I ask. He nods and tries to smile but gives up after realizing he can’t. “You two were locked up together,” Louis is the one who speaks. “Oh! Unfortunately, I still don’t remember you. Are you sure you are alright?”“Aiden has been brooding since he came back,” Hilda says. “We think he might be feeling guilty that he left you at Felix’s castle.”“You shouldn’t feel guilty,” I say to him. “He would’ve killed you.”He nods again, and then his eyes widen, as if remembering something. “This is the guard who saved my life.” He points at Louis with his fork. “What?” Jane eyes Aiden dubiously. “He is the one who helped me escape,” Aiden’s eyes are on Louis. “Re
EstherI’m about to ask Jane to tell me what is really going on when someone offers me a handshake. He is shorter than all the males in the room, but he has an authoritative energy about him.“I’m Josh. I’m glad that we are starting on a clean slate,” he smiles. “Did we fight?” I take his hand. “When we first met, a lot.”“Josh, will you please stop flirting with my mate?” Dominic sighs. “Thank Goddess you are back.” A woman I’ve never seen before squeezes me in a hug. “Jane was becoming a pain in the butt.”“I was worried about my sister, okay?” Jane protests. My eyes are still on the stranger who just gave me a hug, and now her hands are on my shoulders. I feel bad for not knowing who she is, because she seems happy to see me. “I’m sorry,” she says sheepishly, letting my shoulders go. “I’m Hilda, Josh is my mate.”“Have we met before?”“We are almost like friends,” she smiles warmly. “I hope I will remember you.”“You will,” a witch with grey hair replies. “We will find the mi
Esther I’m in my room in the blink of an eye, without warning, and for the first time ever, I wish that magic didn’t exist. The witch who was holding Dominic hostage looks exhausted. When our eyes meet, she nods and then falls to the ground. I rush to her and take hold of her wrist to take her pulse, although I can’t hear her heartbeat, and I know that it’s already over. A tear trickles down my cheek, and I bite my lower lip to stop myself from sobbing. Domic places his arms around my shoulders, and I lean into his warm body. “We should leave, Esther,” he whispers. “And leave her here?” “We don’t have a choice.” “My uncle did this,” I mumble, holding her in my arms. “What about Louis?” “He’s already outside.” “How do you know?” I ask. “I’ll explain later.” The guards are moving at vamp speed, their movements indicate that they are heading towards the room. I finally let the witch go, and we jump out through the window. I try not to think about the witch we left behind and
