Ellie's POV

The next two days that followed were quieter than I expected-

I spent most of my time in my bedroom- trying to recover from the wound in my abdomen

The doctor had warned me against exerting myself and Helen made sure I followed every instruction

She sent meals upstairs reminded me to take my medication and checked on me whenever she could-

I was grateful to her. I really was.

But every time I heard footsteps in the corridor I hoped they belonged to someone who would leave as quickly

  • On Her Terms, At His Cost   Chapter 17

Ellie's POVLater in the evening , I opened my laptop and booked a one-way ticket to America. For several minutes, I stared at the confirmation on my screen. My name.My flight details. My departure time. One way. There was no return date. Not after the things he had said and done. Not after the way he had looked at me when I had begged him to remember our marriage. And certainly not after I had lost the one person who had been mine without ever getting the chance to hold her in my arms.My daughter. I pressed my lips together- trying to contain the ache that rose in my throatI booked the ticket for the morning after his engagement. The irony wasn't lost on me.Asher would be celebrating the beginning of his new life while I quietly ended whatever remained of mine in London. He would have Olivia beside him, his family around him, and a room full of people congratulating him on the future he had chosen. And I would be left alone.I closed the laptop and sat in silence and sighedThen

I really was.But every time I heard footsteps in the corridor I hoped they belonged to someone who would leave as quickly as they arrived-So I kept myself in my room.I slept when I could. Read when I couldnt. Sometimes I sat by the window and watched the garden- trying not to think about the last time I had stood there with Asher,.It was strange how quickly a place could stop feeling like home-A few months ago, I would have recognised every sound if I was living in this house. Now, I spent my days trying to avoid everything, especially him. After the incident with the dress Asher didnt come looking for me. I

  • On Her Terms, At His Cost   Chapter 15

Ellie's POVFor the first time since I was trying the dress today , I didn't have to tug at the fabric or wonder how to hide the way it sat on my body.It fitted comfortably.I turned slightly to check the back, then smoothed the skirt with my hands. It was a lovely dress. Nothing extravagant but I liked the colour and it didnt feel as though- I was trying to squeeze myself into something that wasnT meant for me-"Ellie?" Helen called from outside. "Have you found anything?""I think so," I replied."Come out and let us see!"I hesitated for a moment before stepping out.Charlotte turned towards me first."Oh, Ellie! That looks lovely on you.""You think so?" I smiled, a little surprised by how pleased I was to hear it."I know so," Charlotte said. "The colour really suits you."Helen came closer, examining the dress."Thats much better-" she said. "Its simple- elegant and the colour looks beautiful on you,.""Thank you," I replied."Turn around, darling. Let me see the back." Helen

Ellie’s POVI followed them inside, keeping my eyes down.My cheek hurt from the slap by Olivia․My entire face felt hot․Right now I simply wanted to find a place to hide where no one would bother me with questions․Unfortunately‚ I was unable to do this now․I entered the house, and the entire room was decorated with wedding-related items․Wedding dresses were hung on racks near windows․Garment bags were stacked next to a sofa․Women were arranging other samples and accessories on a table in the center of the room․ Women sitting near Helen were discussing embroidery․ Another woman was showing Olivia a cream-colored dress․I stopped near the entrance, wondering why Helen had insisted me to come inside. This was Asher's & Olivia's engagement. There was no reason for me to be involved in any of it-."That neckline is lovely," Helen said, looking at the dress,. "But I think the sleeves might be a little too plain-.""I was thinking the same thing-," Olivia replied. "Could we try someth

  • On Her Terms, At His Cost   Chapter 13

Ellie’s POVThe next morning, I woke up with the kind of exhaustion that sleep couldnt fix-.For a few seconds, I lay still staring at the ceiling-, trying to convince myself that I was somewhere else-. Somewhere quiet. Somewhere I didn't have to measure every breath, every movement, every word I said-.Then the memories returned.Asher standing beside my bed. His fingers digging into my arm. His voice, cold and unforgiving, telling me that this was no longer my home. And the pain that had followed when I hit the floor.I slowly turned onto my side wincing as the movement pulled at the wound beneath my clothes-. The fresh bandage I'd changed during the night was still in place but the soreness hadn't eased much-. I hadnt slept properly after that. Every time I'd closed my eyes, I had heard his words again-.I pushed the thought aside and sat up carefully-.I got dressed slowly choosing a loose comfortable dress that wouldnt press too tightly against my abdomen-. I checked the bandag

Ellie’s POV The moment the car stopped outside the mansion I felt a strange heaviness settle in my chest- I had spent so much time trying to leave this place behind- And now I was standing in front of it again. Helen got out first and came around to my side. "Take your time," Helen said gently. I nodded. She held out her hand. I looked at it for a moment before taking it. "Thank you," I whispered. Helen smiled. "You don't have to thank me." We walked toward the entrance together. The moment we stepped inside, Richard was already waiting in the foyer. He looked surprised to see me. "Ellie," Richard said warmly. I gave him a small smile. "Hello, Richard." He immediately noticed how pale I looked. His expression changed. "Are you alright?" Richard asked. "I'm just tired," I said. Helen stepped in. "She's been through a lot," Helen said. "The doctors have advised complete rest." Richard looked concerned. "What happened?" "She isn't feeling well," Helen said caref
