We'll never learn and tell if she indeed made the correct choice, but I'm grateful Diana was still with us, even though our lives were at risk at the time. We probably wouldn't be able to swerve to avoid them indefinitely, and if we don't reach this destination soon, we'll be dead. Diana would die from frostbite, while the remaining of us will most undoubtedly be mauled to death and ripped to shreds. At the very least, if we don't take things into our own hands first.
Justine's hand was on my shoulders, like it often was, pulling me ahead. It's a gentle, consistent reminder to keep moving no matter what and to don't ever take a gander back. It reminded me of a painful argument we had too many months earlier about just what I should do if something happened to Justine.
Never, ever keep looking back.
I'm not as stupid or naïve as some people actually believe. I'v
Dr. Melendez escorted us through a labyrinth of corridors that bore witness to the atrocities that had occurred outdoors. The once-beige-colored brickwork had been painted crimson in numerous places, and groups of insects swarmed around some of the complete darkness, dispersing as we managed to pass but immediately having to return to their feast. Dr. Melendez ignored them and provided no comments nor any information on the several rooms we passed in the halls. He merely walked with his head held high and a tiny hurry in his movements, almost as if he's pleased to take us wherever we're heading to.This corridor made me feel uneasy. Just by looking at the discolored ceilings and walls, it's obvious that most people ended up dead in this exact place. Whatever occurred here happened a long time ago, but it doesn't leave me feeling any more at ease or at comfortable. If someone died here, there's a strong possibility that the deceased we
We accompanied him out the doorway and down the corridor. Justine was assisting Diana in walking, while Peter was assisting Ricky in a little way since he had also wounded himself when attempting to rescue Diana. They both seemed to be in horrible form, particularly Diana's feet, which were patched up and bleeding from all the wounds she had. She wanted a comfortable bed to sleep off the happenings of the day, and she hoped that tomorrow would be better for both of them. For the remaining of us, as well.We exited the laboratory section of the structure and entered the residential quarters. It's unusual to watch the area to get beyond chilly and unapproachable to warmer and inviting, but I'm delighted to see it. These corridors were well lit, and the air was much warmer. There's still blood all over the place, and even though they've been cleaned white, I could still see the decomposed body laying there.
"Well, I'm not going to want to slumber after a warm shower," he replied, smiling as he hovered over me."And nor am I," I said, a cheeky grin was plastered on my face.He chuckled as he carried me off the settee and into his powerful arms. He took me into the neighboring bathroom door and placed me on the brink of the huge, pristine white bathtub. For a brief moment, I imagined the two of us enjoying a wonderful, soothing shower together since I believe the tub was enormous and spacious enough for us to prevent pushing and shoving each other in the face with crap.I remained quiet, watching Justine as he switched on the water and checked it with his fingers. After a moment, he drew his hand out and wiped it on his soiled pants."Honey, we've got hot water," beginning with the objective 'have my baby girl nude.'His levity elicited a giggle from me, and he proceeded to give me one of his mischievous smirks, which I adored. Justine doesn't always have the opportunity to be expressive an
"Are you ready to go to bed?" Justine inquired gently."Nope," I replied, panting. "Absolutely not.""Good, since neither do I."Justine took my hand and escorted me around to the other entrance in the bathroom, where we discovered ourselves in a little bedroom. A double bed was packed into the far doorway, and alongside it was a surprisingly tiny bedside table with a reading light and two or three framed photos. The partitions were barren, with just cream-colored varnish on them, and the carpeting under our feet was massive and azure, with no mats to break up the monotony.Justine smiled as he glanced at me. "It's still not probably the most terrible location we've ever slept," he said happily."Certainly, beats the backseat of a vehicle.""Wait a minute, don't
Dr. Melendez did not even seem embarrassed, as I anticipated. Instead, he maintained his composure in the face of Justine's scorn. "Many years ago, we started working on something unprecedented in our history. Our authorities desired something that would wipe away everything in one shot by attacking people's blood, something which would penetrate their endothelium and close down their organs from within, murdering them fast and effectively."And those higher-ups he's pertaining to were no other than Wallace and the people who were on his side. I smirked out of disbelief. What a bunch of insane people."We worked for years to construct such weaponry, going through planning stages and even reaching so far as to develop a counterbalance to it in case anything went wrong, which worked out in our advantage since I didn't have to start from zero and spend years to produce this remedy. We subsequently progressed to the testing stages. We began small, administering it into squirrels and other
Diana said, "He did mention we could go investigating. I'd want to have a peek around this area. Would any of you want to accompany me?" she inquired, glancing at each of us individually. Ricky got up for a moment and did some stretching. "Thank you, but I was hunting for the cooking area yesterday evening and ended up in the laundry room by accident. I'm going to clean our clothing, so we have enough fresh clothes to bring with us. I'm sick of wearing my underpants for three consecutive days and then having to wash them in a chilly river." He made his way to the door, pausing to softly pat both Justine and Peter on their back. They didn't take their gaze away from the television, but Ricky doesn't seem offended. As he walked away, he simply grinned and shook his head, and I swear I heard him whisper 'good luck' under his breath. "How about you two?" Peter
He hammered its head on the ground until it completely stopped from moving. He went to give Diana and Peter assistance, but it's evident that they don't require it. Peter was coaxing the rotten towards him, its back turned to Diana. She approached it from behind and wrapped the cable around its throat, compressing it as much as she could. If it were a regular, live organism, its breath provision would be turned off and it would die before it could be of any value. But, since rottens don't need any oxygen to survive, all it actually achieves was put him in position and prevent him from attacking.Three more guys emerged from the woods, drawn by the fence or the gunfire, and the trio raced back to the barrier. Ricky flashed the camera another stamp of approval, and Dr. Melendez pressed the silver button once again. The gate swung open, and Peter played the role of bait, drawing the animal toward the laboratory as Diana steered it from b
“Peter, we already know he’s an evil piece of shit,” Justine said, sounding tired and impatient with his brother. “Whatever is on these disks isn’t going to tell us anything he hasn’t already told us himself.”Peter looked unconvinced and took the top disc from the stack. He took it and slid it into the gaming console he and Ricky were playing on before. When the TV screen lit up, he fiddled with some buttons, and the screen went black. There’s a small timestamp at the bottom of the screen, displaying a date that’s almost a year ago, before the time the infection started.Despite my insistence, there’s nothing on these discs, I felt myself moving toward the couch to sit beside Diana. She made room for me, never taking her eyes off of the screen in front of us. For a second, I thought that nothing was going to happen until the screen lightened as if someone turned on a
