HAZEL
Mollsy was still digging through her bag, so I leaned closer to Thaddeus. “Does she always act... well, you know, this way? Is she always this... creepy?”
He pursed his lips, a thoughtful look crossing his face. Then, a slow nod followed, and a quiet chuckle escaped. "You won't believe this, but the last time I was here, she tried to propose to me. She thought I was the cutest thing she had ever seen!" he whispered, a hint of amusement in his voice.
I bit my lip, a frown creasing my forehead. It wasn't the usual reason for my furrowed brow. No, this time, it was the sight of that tiny witch, barely half Thaddeus's size, trying so desperately to capture his attention. It was a sight so unexpected, so absurd, that it left me utterly perplexed.
"Ah, yes, here it is!" She slammed a book down onto the table with a force that made me jump. The book landed with a loud thud, startling me from my reverie. She flipped open the cover, her fingers dancing across the pages as she skimmed through the text.
"Oh, right, sorry about that," she said, sheepishly scratching the back of her head. "Werewolf hearing, you know? Always picking up strange noises. Anyway, let's see what this is all about. There seems to be something... peculiar about your blood.”
The book in her grip was old and fragile, its pages yellowed and worn. She flipped through them with a careless disregard, sending a cloud of dust particles swirling into the air. The fine powder tickled my nose, making me sniffle and sneeze. I tried to stifle the urge, but it was futile.
“Your blood, my dear, is something truly special. It's a gift, a blessing from the four wise elders themselves," she began, settling comfortably into the recliner before us.
"When you say 'four elders,' don't tell me it's those damn..." I paused, not wanting to finish the sentence, but she interrupted me before I could.
"My dear, the elders you speak of are not mere mortals. They are divine beings, the moon god and moon goddess of the highest magical realm. Five of them exist, each representing one of Earth's magical species. The most powerful among them is the moon goddess herself. Next, there's Lord Dracula, the ancient ruler of the vampires. Then, we have Lord Hitler, the fearsome elder of the dragons. Lady Muna, the graceful elder of the mermaids, and finally, Lord Damien, the formidable leader of the Lycans. Does this explanation clarify things for you?”
We all nodded in agreement, and she hummed in approval. "Good," she said. "Now, hundreds of years ago, before the Great War even happened, the Moon Goddess called the elders together to discuss how to give back to their species.
Back then, people were very delusional and performed many ceremonies in the name of their elders. The Moon Goddess wanted to reward them for their devotion, and that's how the Moon Goddess Blessing came about.”
She paused to show us a picture of the four elders gathered around a cauldron, “The moon goddess wanted to create a new kind of blood, one that would benefit all species. These elders gathered beneath the watchful eye of the moon. In a sacred ritual, they came together, their hearts filled with purpose. Each elder, in turn, offered a pint of their own blood, a precious sacrifice to the goddess. This blood, imbued with the essence of life and the wisdom of the ages, was poured into a mystical cauldron. As the blood mingled within the cauldron, it was transformed by the power of the moon.”
“So," I asked, my head nodding slowly, "what else can my blood do besides healing?”
“Well, as you said just now, your blood can heal any werewolves. It can also make a dragon’s fire a thousand times stronger, meaning a dragon could burn a whole country to ashes within second if they drank a pint of your blood. For mermaids your blood could grow them feet forever and, for vampires, a pint of your blood is able to quinch their blood thirst for years, making them unstoppable but not immortal.”
"And what about the Lycans?" Thaddeus inquired, his voice sharp and his posture rigid.
Her eyes, the color of faded spring leaves, held a chilling intensity as she spoke, her voice a low, ominous rumble.
“Your blood has the power to make Lycan wolves immortal. Your blood holds the power to make them live forever.”
My jaw dropped in disbelief. Could this be the reason why those creatures were hunting me? Were they desperate to cheat death, to attain eternal life?
“Immortal?" Sparrow repeated, his mind racing. He blinked, trying to make sense of the impossible claim.
"Yes, they are immortal darlings. The rejection and humiliation you endured from Cosmo and your father were not meant to wound your spirit. The Moon Goddess, in her infinite wisdom, intervened to shield you from the Lycan threat. They sought you relentlessly, that they eradicated most of your kind. The Moon Goddess, recognizing your peril, guided you to the Shadow Moon Pack, where you would be more protected and embraced by your true, fated mates.”
"Only you and the pup possess this extraordinary power. The Lycans, once mighty warriors, were nearly wiped out in a terrible war. Now, they seek immortality to ensure their survival and prevent such devastation from ever happening again.”
"Hey, so, how much blood exactly would it take for all the Lycan werewolves to become immortal?" I asked, my voice filled with worry.
The look on her face scared the shit out of me. It was so nonchalant as if she could care less about me.
“They would suck every last drop of blood from your body, leaving you a hollow shell.”
Thaddeus and Sparrow let out low, rumbling growls, their bodies tense and ready to pounce. I reached out and gently squeezed Thaddeus's hand, trying to soothe his growing agitation.
"Does anyone else have any other questions before we move on?" She asked, her voice steady, her gaze sweeping across the room, ignoring the two raging Alphas on her couch.
"Why does a newborn pup have the blessing?" Thea asked, his voice soft as he spoke from the corner.
She furrowed her brows, lost in thought. Her lips curled inward as she pondered the mystery. "I believe the Alpha who had been intimate with the woman had conducted the bonding ceremony with his beta. Both of them were blessed. The woman, a Beta from the Sunflower Pack, had been falsely accused of murdering the Alpha, the only man she loved. That's why she's found herself trapped in the territory of the Brutes.”
“Brute territory isn't a dangerous place. It's a safe haven for wolves who've been hurt or misunderstood. The Moon Goddess sends them there to heal. You don't have to worry about anyone, except maybe the little pup.”
As if that made things better. He didn't just deserve to be born into a life of danger.
"Okay, thank you, Mollsy," Thaddeus said, his voice laced with a sense of urgency. "We'll let you know if we need any other questions answered." He didn't wait for a reply, his tone making it clear that he was eager to move on.
"Absolutely, darling. You can always reach out to me about the proposal I made last time. I'll be eagerly waiting for your response." She flashed a radiant smile, followed by a playful wink.
We were barely able to react before Thaddeus was already leading us out the door. We dashed back to the pack warriors, who were still on the ground, shocked and confused. Thaddeus didn't even pause to see if they were okay. He was determined to get us out of there as quickly as possible.
"Move it!" he bellowed, his voice echoing through the narrow alleyway. The group of startled warriors, their faces etched with fear, quickly scrambled to their feet and began to follow us at a hurried pace.
Sparrow shrugged indifferently, while Thea shook his head, a silent plea for me to keep quiet. I understood the unspoken message; Thaddeus was clearly in a foul mood, and any further words from me would likely only exacerbate the situation.
I was pretty sure I could see a vein in his temple throbbing. My guess was that his wolf was extremely upset, which In turn made Thaddeus upset.
I sighed quietly and managed to slip my hands out of his grip. Hopefully, he would calm down soon.

HAZELSparrow and Thea, whispering and pointing at a map, emerged from the woods. I was still struggling with my backpack, oblivious to their approach. As they noticed me, Thea flashed a friendly smile, while Sparrow gave a subtle nod that made me blush slightly."Good morning, Soni. Where did everyone go?” Thea questioned while they both looked around.“Morning Thea, they went hunting.”They both nodded, understanding dawning on their faces. I chuckled softly to myself. "Your pack members," I mused, "they really need to get out more often. A little fresh air and sunshine wouldn't hurt.”“Why, what makes you say that?" Sparrow asked, his face creased with curiosity.“Alright, I told them that Thaddeus went to go beat down his meat and they had the weirdest looks on their faces.”Suddenly, Thea bursted out into laughter, his laughter echoing in the air and Sparrow just stared at me weirdly. “You told the pack warriors that Thaddeus' was… beating his meat down?” Sparrow asked, staring a
HAZELThe next hour and a half flew by in a whirlwind of activity. Everyone was simultaneously sitting, cutting, cooking, and eating, all in an effort to finish early and get a good night's sleep. Sparrow had warned us that we needed to start at three in the morning to make up for any potential delays.By the time it was completely dark and the stars were out, the pack warriors on duty were circling the small camp and everyone else was either spreading there blanket to sleep or already fast asleep. I snuggled deeper into the thin throw, Thea's gift, but it offered little warmth against the biting cold. The chill seeped through the blanket, sending shivers down my spine. I tried to pull the blanket tighter, but it was like trying to hold onto a wisp of smoke. The cold air seemed to find every crevice, every exposed inch of my skin. I couldn't believe how much colder it had gotten. My head snapped up, curious to see how everyone else was doing. They all looked so cosy and warm, wrapped
HAZELThe half hour I'd spent sitting in the grassy part of the woods felt like an eternity. The silence, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant chirping of birds, was starting to get to me. I was waiting for them to return from their little hunting but as the minutes ticked by, a sense of unease began to creep in.Suddenly, a low rustle sounded from behind me, startling me out of my fearful thoughts. My heart pounded as I slowly turned my head around, my eyes scanning the line of trees. The noise seemed to have come from somewhere deep within the woods, but I couldn't pinpoint the exact source.A chill ran down my spine as I tightened my grip on the tennis racket I had brought with me. It was a simple weapon, but it was all I had to defend myself with. I tried to calm my racing thoughts, reminding myself that it was probably just an animal. But the more I thought about it, the less convinced I became.Suddenly, a large, black wolf appeared in the dim light. It
HAZELThaddeus kept his steady pace, an unusual sight after four hours of carrying me. I wasn't sure if I should comment on his surprising stamina or just wait for a bathroom break, which seemed imminent judging by Thea's expression. As if he read my thoughts, Thea looked at Thaddeus and shook his head."I need to step away for a moment," he explained, his voice low. "Just a quick break.”Thaddeus sighed and called for a break loudly. Thea and a few other warriors from the group decided to step away from the main trail to find a private spot to relieve themselves. Seeing this as an opportunity, I leaned in closer to Thaddeus and whispered, "Hey, I think it's time you put me down. You've carried me for four long hours now. Your back must be aching terribly.” "No," he muttered, his voice barely a whisper. "You'll just slow us down. And you're not even heavy.”“I'm not?” I asked incredulously. As if to prove his point, he let go of my legs and yanked my right arm so I was leaning to the
HAZELBefore I could respond to Sparrow's accusing question, Thaddeus's father showed up with another man. They had sent Sparrow off on an urgent errand, so we agreed to continue our conversation later.Thaddeus's dad stared at Farrow, his eyes wide with disbelief. He glanced at the strange creature on the floor, then back at Farrow. "You've got to be joking, Farrow," he said, his voice thick with disbelief. "We all know we haven't seen a rogue like this in ages. It's just… it's not possible.”"The stench of these scoundrels is unmistakable," Farrow growled, his eyes fixed on the fallen rogues. "Even in my old age, I'd recognize their foul odor anywhere. They are the most despised breed of villains, and I will never forget the mark they leave.”I stood there, utterly bewildered, as the conversation unfolded. I'd never laid eyes on a rogue, never smelled their supposed stench. All I knew was what others described, vague notions and fearful whispers. With a growing sense of unease, I ed
