MAYA

I almost ran out of the hospital.

It felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest while I was still alive. I couldn’t breathe.

My steps became faster, unsteady, until I finally got outside.

The tears came immediately like a tap that refused to turn off.

I just wanted to scream.

Scream until my voice disappeared.

“Here.”

I didn’t even need to look up.

Jay’s perfume already gave him away.

“Thank you,” I muttered, taking whatever he handed me.

“I know the perfect place where you can sc

MAYA“Why are you doing this to me?” I asked again. My voice came out weaker this time. Two hot tears slid down my face, but I wiped them off quickly before he could see just how much he was getting to me.“Please,” I continued, forcing myself to stay steady. “I can’t leave this office. It holds too many memories.”My chest pulled tight as I spoke.“Just give me one year. One more year, and you can have everything, Ray.”My voice broke on his name. This place wasn’t just an office. It was where everything started.I was nineteen when I first walked into this space, back when working from home no longer made sense. This was where my career took shape. Where I grew into myself, and him, Ray had been part of all of it.The first flowers he ever got me were delivered here.I could still remember the way he stood awkwardly by the door, pretending it wasn’t a big deal, while I couldn’t stop smiling. The kisses, the laughter, everything felt like it had happened just yesterday.Right now, he

MAYAJay made sandwiches with a hot cup of tea. It tasted better than anything I had eaten in a while.Maybe it was the effort.“Thank you, Jay,” I said, placing the cup down. “I should get ready for work.”He nodded, watching me for a second before turning back to whatever he was doing.I went to my room, took a quick shower, and stood in front of the wardrobe for a moment.Every single outfit hanging there would bring out my curves. Nothing baggy, all fitted. For a second, I hesitated. Then I picked one, and surprisingly, I didn’t mind.I paused in front of the mirror after getting dressed. Is it me, or am I actually changing? The thought stayed with me longer than it should have. When I stepped back into the living room, Jay and Sia were seated, going through some files. Both of them paused the moment I walked in.Jay’s reaction came first.A wide grin, followed by some thumbs up, and those annoying eyebrows again.I laughed. I couldn’t even help it anymore.“I don’t want to hear a

MAYAEvery ride I tried to book kept canceling. One after the other. My car refused to start, and the rain kept getting heavier, soaking through my clothes and making everything worse. For a moment, I almost gave up and turned back toward the office. Then Jay called right on time.A few minutes later, he pulled up and picked me up. I didn’t say anything at first.I was cold, tired, and more than anything, hurt. Ray saw me standing there. He saw me struggling in the rain. For a second, I thought he would step out of the car. I thought he would walk toward me like he used to, pull me close, and ask if I was okay, but he didn’t.He got into his car and drove off, just like that. And somehow, that hurt more than everything else.“Did you get carried away again?” Jay asked, eyes still fixed on the road. “Didn’t you see the emergency alert?”I leaned back in my seat.“My phone stays in my bag most of the time,” I replied. “And it’s usually on silent when I’m working on my story outlines.”I

RAYWhen the elevator stopped, my first instinct was to move towards her.I saw the way her breathing changed. The sweat on her skin. The panic she was trying so hard to control.I knew that look. I had seen it before. And for a second, I almost reached for her. Almost pulled her into my arms the way I used to, the way she always needed. But I stopped myself. I was done listening to my heart.Instead, I turned and held Lilly. It felt wrong the moment I did it.But I kept my arms around her anyway.Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Maya freeze. I could feel her looking at me, and that made everything worse. Was she jealous? The lights flickered back on, and the elevator doors opened almost immediately.I let my hands fall from Lilly slowly, like nothing had happened, and we both stepped out.We walked in silence toward my office. The moment we got inside, I shut the door harder than necessary, ripped off my tie, and kicked the chair across the room.“Fucking hell!”My voice echoed.“Y

CHAPTER 13MAYA“Someone’s getting bold with her style, I see.”Jay leaned closer and whispered that when he noticed the dresses I was picking. I almost laughed.Normally, I wouldn’t even look twice at half of these outfits. But today wasn’t about me.It was about Lilly. Her style has always been bold, showing skin and owning the room. Mine? The complete opposite.Everything I was picking was for her.I don’t have the luxury of time to start experimenting with fashion. The store attendant kept stealing glances at Jay, whispering to her colleague every few seconds.I followed her gaze.Jay was seated comfortably on the couch, scrolling through his phone like he didn’t even notice the attention. But of course he did.Jay is the kind of man who walks into a room and instantly owns it.People look. They always look. His height, his body, face, and the way he carries himself are effortlessly charming.“Ma,” the attendant said with a giggle, “your husband is so handsome. And you’re so beaut

CHAPTER 12MAYAI thought we were heading to some private cabin. But this? This was something else entirely. The water wasn’t deep like the ocean. It looked like a clear, calm pool stretching endlessly, reflecting the soft glow of lights around it. Right in the middle of it stood a glass house, sitting almost as if it was floating.A house in water.Soft golden lights were wrapped around the edges, reflecting beautifully on the surface. Rose petals were scattered across the water, forming delicate patterns that drifted gently with the movement. And right there, arranged perfectly with petals, “Dinner with Jay 😉”I burst out laughing. The wink emoji almost took me out. Then my eyes moved to the dinner setup.A table by the edge of the water, candles flickering softly, the breeze brushing against my skin, everything feels like a dream.“This is beautiful, Jay,” I said softly. “So beautiful.”“I know,” he replied. “So are you.”I looked at him.He had changed. No more suit. Just somethi
