Some minutes later, Celia and I were done cooking. The blend of meat, vegetables, and spice aromas wafted through the kitchen.

Celia placed the final dish on the tray and turned to me. “So is Alex really staying for dinner?”

I didn't know why she was asking that. She knew that was the reason I'd cooked a larger portion than usual.

Rinsing my hands, I grabbed a cloth to dry them. “That’s what the twins would want.”

“Just the twins?” Celia questioned. Her tone was light, but I didn’t miss the slyness tucked underneath.

I turned and stared at her. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

She lifted both hands with a shrug. “Nothing.”

I narrowed my eyes at her, then shook my head. “I’m going to inform them. Please start setting up the table.”

I stepped out of the kitchen and paused as soon as I reached the living room.

Alex and Stefano were sitting beside each other on the couch, but this time their bodies were turned just slightly. They weren’t talking to the kids. They were talking to each other
