Revenge or Peace and Harmony, which will it be?

The ring that came from her phone jolted her awake.

“Hello.” She answered sleepily.

“What the hell are you doing still sleeping, Val?” Maeve shouted, causing Valerie to open her eye immediately and her ear to ring.

“You didn’t have to yell that loud Maeve, I know I’m supposed to be in school today.” Valerie answered with a yawn.

“Bitch, check your damn time.” Maeve cussed. Valerie dropped the phone off her ear to check the time and it was already 8:19AM

“Fuck!” She screamed as she scampered off the bed to start getting ready for school, setting the phone on speaker she placed it on the table as she ran around the room.

“That’s what I thought.” Maeve called from over the phone.

“Just Shut up, Maeve, I overslept. It’s totally normal.” Valerie answered as she rummaged through her closet to find the cloth she would be wearing to school.

“It’s a new week and judging from how you started it, the rest of the week wouldn’t be so good.” Maeve snarled and Valerie scoffed.

“Oh. Please,” she rolled her eyes, “you still coming to pick me up? I don’t wanna drive.” She added.

“Fine! I’m coming, better be ready before I get there.” Maeve finally answered after a while of silence causing Valerie to wonder.

Valerie rushed to the bathroom and hastily had her bath, she got out and threw her clothes on, wearing a pair of leggings and a really short skirt above it, showing her perfectly straight legs, with a black striped top, dropping her full hair instead of making it into her usual ponytail, she threw some lipstick on and dashed out of her room. She got downstairs to a fully set table.

“I’m sorry, Adira, I won’t be having breakfast, I’m really late.” She apologized with a puppy face as she gathered her textbooks properly.

“Not even a sandwich?” Adira asked.

“I can grab one,” She replied, taking her sandwich and walking out of the room when she heard Maeve’s car honk. “That’s Maeve, I must go.” She added, pecking Adira and dashing out of the house.

“Hi.” Valerie greeted as she got into the car, fastening her seatbelt with her sandwich still in mouth, Maeve pulled closer to her and took a bite.

“What do you think you’re doing taking a bite of my sandwich?” Valerie almost screamed.

“Calm down, its just a Sandwich,” Maeve rolled her eyes as she laughed, “how’s Adira? That name will never not sound funny to me. What does it even mean?” She asked.

“She’s fine and I tell you the meaning of it every single day, why do you keep asking.” Valerie sighed dramatically.

“Because the name and the meaning doesn’t seem to match, Adira meaning strong, Powerful. How?” Maeve yelled that last bit, causing Valerie to jump.

“ASK THE HEBREWS,” Valerie yelled back, “let’s just go, we’re late, that was what someone was screaming when she called me.” Valerie added as she dramatically relaxed on her seat.

They drove to the school and as usual York university was booming and bustling with students, those who genuinely wanted to be there and those who had no other choice but to be, the ones who only came to school for pictures and gawk at guys and the guys who only came to show off their bodies or properties. Valerie sighed as she got out of the car with Maeve.

“Another day in this hell hole.” She said, breathing in the cool air and sighing immediately.

“It’s not an hell hole, it’s school.” Maeve replied, hearing what Valerie had said, Valerie only rolled her eyes as they both made their way to their various lockers while also looking for Camden.

“What are my girls up to?” Camden said from behind them as he placed his arm around each of their shoulders.

“Nothing. Just going to class.” Valerie answered with a smile.

“What are we having?” He asked.

“Literature.” Maeve answered.

“Let’s go then.” Camden said as he pulled them to their literature class. The class was boring for almost everyone in it but Valerie still took interest and had listened to every lecture, she sat as she does everyday hoping not to get noticed.

Class was over and as long and boring as the day had seemed for Valerie and Maeve as there had nothing to do or any extra curricular activities to participate in, the day was soon over and students walked out of their various classes happily.

“Thanks for the ride.” Valerie said to Maeve as she got out of the car, waving, she watched her friend zoom out of the building before she proceeded to go inside. She went in to meet a displeased Adira and some of the elders of her pack, dropping her bag and textbooks she spoke up.

“Elders,” she called and they all stood to acknowledge her and only sat when she asked them to.

“To what do I owe this visit?” She asked, sitting with them.

“What are you doing Suprema?” One of the elders asked and Valerie looked shocked.

“You were supposed to avenge the death of your mother, death of the honorable members of our pack that died during the attack those wicked humans had launched years ago, but you’re beginning to become a part of them. Forsaking our packs, forsaking the Suprema.” Another elder said.

“Enough!” Adira ordered and Valerie only raised her hand in an attempt to stop her.

“It’s okay, let them speak,” she said, “please continue.” She added.

“We mean no disrespect Suprema, we just need you to do the needful, some of us would have taken to avenge their deaths ourselves but we mustn’t act without your order which is why we’re here today.” Another one said.

“When is the next full moon.” She asked.

“Tonight.” The elder who’d first spoke answered and Valerie mentally slapped herself, she had also forgotten about the full moon.

“Okay, in celebration of the moon goddess, when we all gather to celebrate and reaffirm our bond, I will bring you all to the light of my quest. The quest, the assignment the moon goddess has given to me that I must carry out and cannot deny.” She finished as she stood up and they stood with her.

She walked to the stairs and abruptly stopping in her track she said, “prepare for celebration” and she took off, going to her room with a heavy heart. Valerie knew why she was trying to bring humans in the world of werewolves and vice versa but she never fully understood why the goddess was still in support despite the killing of her people. She got to her room with the thought of the full moon celebration, she has no idea what she would say to them but she’d promised to tell them what she was searching for among humans, what her quest was.

Still lost in her thought, Adira opened the door and made her way in.

“My queen.” She said, she doesn’t usually address Valerie as that even though she gave her all the respect she deserves and whenever she addresses Valerie as ‘my queen’ it means she has an advice to give to the queen of the Aletha Wolfpack and not to her goddaughter. Valerie jerked back to reality as she turned to look at Adira.

“Yes, Adira. Speak.” She said and Adira proceeded to stating what was on her mind, she mentioned it to Valerie that the people were only concerned and just thirsty for revenge. The suprema’s death was supposed to be avenged but Valerie had done nothing but only acted like she had forgotten about the death of her mother when really in reality, the memories keeps her up at night.

“Why not let us do this? You’ve always been ready to fight, you were chosen by the goddess no mortal could kill you or possibly hurt you.” Adira finally finished.

“I’m not stopping the bloodbath because I am weak. I am stopping it because the goddess doesn’t want it, the goddess guides us and she wouldn’t sit back and watch us venture into something that would lead to even more killing of our pack. She sent me, I should obey her and follow her lead.” Valerie said.

“And where is her lead taking us to? To making friends and building relationships with people that killed the previous queen? Who knows, you probably could’ve even met the person that killed your own mother and probably offered him an hug.” Adira said and the picture of the man that had shot her mother formed in her brain again, she could have forgotten a lot of faces but definitely not this man’s, she recognized him like she would place her bed in the dark.

“Are you doubting the guidance of the goddess?” Valerie asked.

“No, I’m just saying.—“ Adira started talking but was cut short by Valerie.

“Don’t bother, Adira. Let’s just prepare for the full moon.” Valerie said and Adira took a small bow before leaving her alone.

“goddess, I pray you don’t let all these be in vain for the sake of your people.” She silently prayed while she also got herself ready for the celebration.

She made her way to the coven as the pack howled in celebration. Pleased, Valerie thought it was finally time to let the pack know why she’d decided to mix with humans.

“For many years, till now...” she started saying, “humans have hunted werewolves and vice versa.” She finished and the coven went silent as they all listened to what she was saying.

“I have deemed it fit to bring to your knowledge my quest. I see a future where human and wolves lives in harmony..” she started saying and the coven went loud again as they all murmured amongst themselves.

“The goddess sees this too which is why she’d given one last chance to try it again. If after my trial, I fail then humans will forever become our sworn enemies.” She finished.

Valerie looked round and saw the dissatisfaction among the pack, confused, she made her way back to her chamber. “Why am I even doing this? I feel burdened already.” She said to herself.

“Don’t, its your responsibility.” She heard a familiar voice, looking up, she saw her mother.

“Mother?” She called.
