Chapter 77: The Confession

Quentin returned to the triplex penthouse a little after two in the morning.

The situation at Eclipse had taken longer than expected, but at least it was under control for now. He stepped out of the private elevator already thinking about Verity. He knew she would probably be asleep, but that did not stop him from wanting to see her. After the way they parted earlier, he spent most of the evening wondering what was going through her mind.

Something was wrong when

  • PAINTED IN SIN   Chapter 101: Forever

By the time Quentin and Verity returned to Sapphire Coastline, the sun was gone, and lights shone through the windows of the house. Verity was quieter than usual during the drive. Quentin let her think, reaching for her hand when they stopped at a traffic light. She held it until he needed to move again. The afternoon kept returning to her. She remembered her father admitting that he put the business first, her mother listening without asking her to understand everyone else, and Judith holding her while they both cried. There was still trust to rebuild, but she was glad she went. When Quentin parked, he turned toward her. “Still thinking?” “A little.” “Do you regret going?” Verity shook her head. “No. I think I needed today.” He lifted her hand and kissed it before getting out of the car. When he opened her door, she looked up at him with a small smile. “I can still get out by myself.” “I know.” “Then why are you standing there waiting?” “Because I want to help

“I want to see my parents.” Verity finally said it when they were halfway across Los Angeles. She thought about visiting them several times after their return from New York, but until that moment, she could not decide whether she was ready. Quentin glanced at her before returning his attention to the road. “Today?” “Yes.” Since Jessica’s arrest and Kingsley’s decision to leave, some of the tension in him had eased. There were still problems to deal with, but he was no longer reaching for his phone every few minutes. “Are you sure?” he asked. Verity looked down at her hands. “I want to try.” Quentin nodded and took the next turn toward the Sinclair house. When they arrived, she remained in her seat for a moment. The garden was carefully maintained, and the front steps looked just as she remembered them. As a child, she used to run up those steps without ever wondering whether she was welcome. In recent months, coming here meant preparing herself for another argument or anothe

  • PAINTED IN SIN   Chapter 99: Making It Right

Two days after Jessica left Eclipse House with the investigators, Quentin returned to the Chelsea property with Verity. The private section remained closed. Security officers guarded the restricted entrances, and several employees were on leave while their access to the rooms and records was being reviewed. The public gallery was still open, but Quentin barely glanced at the paintings as they passed through it. Verity noticed how quiet he was. During the drive from the triplex, he answered her questions, but his attention kept returning to the documents on his tablet. Now, even after putting it away, he looked troubled. She held his hand as they entered the conference room above the gallery. His attorneys were waiting with the independent security consultant hired to inspect the property. Quentin pulled out Verity’s chair, then took the seat beside her. “We have contacted all the members we can currently identify as affected,” the lead attorney began. “Several have responded thro

  • PAINTED IN SIN   Chapter 98: Jessica’s Last Mistake

Jessica arrived at Eclipse House a few minutes before eight, expecting to find Quentin waiting for her alone. She knew he would be angry, but she also believed he would do whatever was necessary to keep those files from becoming public. That was why she stopped at the entrance to the private meeting room when she saw Verity sitting beside him. Quentin’s attorney stood near the windows with a folder in his hand. Two members of the security team remained outside the door. Jessica looked from one person to another before settling her gaze on Quentin. “I told you to come alone.” Quentin remained seated. “And I decided who would be here.” Jessica stepped inside, trying to hide her irritation. This was not how she expected the meeting to begin. She wanted him worried about what she could do, but he looked perfectly willing to let everyone in the room hear their conversation. Her eyes moved to Verity. “So you showed her the files.” “Everything you sent,” Quentin replied. Jes

  • PAINTED IN SIN   Chapter 97: Monica Goes to Work

By nine the following morning, one of the private meeting rooms at Sapphire Coastline had been turned into a temporary command center. Quentin’s attorney sat at one end of the table with two members of his legal team, while his head of security occupied the other side with a cybersecurity specialist from Langford Holdings. Monica sat in the middle with her laptop open in front of her, looking far too pleased for a woman who had been called into a blackmail crisis. Verity noticed it immediately. “You are enjoying this.” Monica looked up. “I am enjoying the part where Jessica finally gives me permission to become useful.” Quentin leaned back in his chair. “She did not give you permission.” Monica smiled. “You did.” “That is exactly what worries me.” Verity laughed. The files Jessica sent the previous night were already copied into a secure system controlled by Quentin’s legal and security teams. Nothing was opened outside the protected environment, and Monica had been given ac

  • PAINTED IN SIN   Chapter 96: Two Choices

Kingsley arrived at Theodore’s office shortly before noon. He expected another conversation about the family, perhaps even a question about why he had been so quiet at the gathering the night before. However, the moment he saw his uncle’s expression, he knew something was wrong. Theodore sat behind his desk with an open laptop in front of him. He did not return Kingsley’s greeting or offer him anything to drink. He simply looked toward the door. “Close it.” Kingsley obeyed, then approached the chair opposite the desk. “What happened?” “Sit down.” He sat, watching his uncle carefully. Theodore turned the laptop toward him and pressed a button. “Watch this.” Kingsley frowned at the screen. The image was dark and unclear at first, but he soon recognized the bar at Theodore’s birthday party. His stomach tightened. The footage showed Quentin and Blake leaving their drinks on the bar before moving away. A few seconds later, Kingsley appeared. He glanced around, stepped closer, and

Verity stood in the kitchen of the Central Park West penthouse, stirring a pot of pasta she had no intention of eating. Verity barely remembered the drive from her parents’ house. The moment she got home, the tears she had held back finally broke free. She sat still in her car in the driveway, sobbing so hard her chest hurt. Her phone rang. It was Monica. “Vee? Where are you? I’ve been calling you for hours.” The

Verity pulled up to the grand Sinclair family home at Marpleton Drive in Bel Air just after sunset. She sat in the car for a long moment, gripping the steer
