EMILIA POV

Lucas and I listened as the sound of Katarina’s retreating footsteps faded into the distance until silence fell again, followed by the depressing last words she had left with us.

“You can’t die,” I stated. “You’re innocent. We need to send word to the Werewolf Council.”

“And how are we supposed to do that, Emilia? What access do we have? We don’t have the power to send anyone to the Elders and send word that we’re being punished unjustly. The only place we need to save our hope is the murder of the guards who were positioned in the cabin,” Lucas explained.

“How long does it take till prisoners are executed?” I asked him, placing my hand on my stomach in a protective manner.

“A trial has to be put in place first,” he answered. “If I’m found guilty of whatever they’re trying to pin on me, they’ll set a time for me to be executed. Knowing Seth, he could command them to kill me immediately. I’m not expecting much.”
