Elijah

I woke up close to noon as planned, feeling more refreshed than I had in previous weeks. I checked my phone and saw a message from Michael informing me he would be out of town to assist with delivering a foal. Apparently, there were complications, but he would still swing by later to continue our movie marathon if all went well.

I lay in bed for a few more minutes, replaying everything that happened last night between Zoe and me. I could already tell she would be trouble in every sense of the word. She was bold, aggressive, wild, and just plain disrespectful with a smart ass mouth. On top of all of that, she had the nerve to be attractive with her coffee-colored skin, almond-shaped brown eyes, and plump lips. Zoe had the type of lips you never wanted to let go of, and her body was curvy with an ass to grab hold of. I hated myself for staring as Zoe walked away, but damn, it should be a shame to have that much ass. Zoe’s obviously too young for me, and entertaining these carnal thoughts wouldn’t do anything but leave me with a hard dick and aching balls.

I rolled out of bed and made my way towards the bathroom. I closed my eyes and let out a yawn as I stepped into the bathroom. “FUCK!” I yelled once my back hit the tiled floor, and my feet flew in the air. “What the fuck?” I groaned, rolling onto my side, cradling my elbow that I smashed against the porcelain sink on my way down. Thankfully, I didn’t hit my head, or I would’ve been a goner.

The pain in my elbow made my head spin, and I was this close to vomiting. It took me a minute to realize the entire floor was slick with an oily substance. I scooped some up with my finger and smelled it, immediately catching the scent of baby oil.

How did baby oil get on my floor? I don’t even own baby oil. It wasn’t on the floor last night when I went to bed.

I crawled out of the bathroom, fearful of standing up and ending up back on my ass again, and made it to my phone.

“What’s up?” Michael casually asked.

“Hey, did you come to my house last night?”

“Noooo, why?”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure. I even have an alibi. What’s up?”

“I woke up this morning and busted my ass. My entire bathroom floor was covered in baby oil.”

“Okay, well then you must’ve dropped the bottle and didn’t screw the cap on or something.”

“No, you don’t get it. I don’t own baby oil.”

“Who did you make enemies with? Because it sounds like someone is pranking you. The good ole baby oil on the floor trick. You alright?”

I clenched my phone with anger, knowing exactly who tried to take me out. Who would’ve thought that another human being would stoop so low, especially when they were in the wrong?

“Yeah, I’m fine. I did make a new enemy last night. You know the house across the street that took forever and a day to sell?”

“Yeah, that house where the old lady fell down the stairs and died?”

“Precisely.” I launched into the story of my run-in with Zoe, only for my brother to die on the other end from laughter. “It’s not funny,” I growled.

“Yes, it is. To be fair, you didn’t have to call her a self-entitled bitch. Especially since she didn’t call you any names to your face.”

“She started it when she shot me the double bird,” I spat back.

“Yeah, and you’re 15 years older than her, so you need to act like it. You could’ve handled the situation better.”

“Are you seriously taking sides with someone who broke into my house and attempted to murder me? I feel so violated. I was only sleeping in my boxers. What if she was watching me sleep?” I frantically asked.

“First of all, I’ve been telling you that you need a security system. Second of all, I’m sure you don’t have anything she wants. She’s too young for you bro, and from the sounds of it, she’s probably chasing after frat guys, or they’re chasing after her, whichever. Maybe you should apologize and make things right.”

“I will not apologize to her. She could’ve killed me.”

“And here we are talking. You sound pretty undead to me. Just steer clear of each other from now on. When you see her, don’t speak. Just chill out today. Take a shower, make some of the avocado toast you love, watch a movie, or do a puzzle or something.”

“Okay, yeah. That’s what I’ll do, but I swear to God if she crosses the line one more time, then I’m calling the cops on her again,” I warned.

“Okay, fair enough. I gotta go.”

Michael quickly hung up the phone, and I gingerly walked to the nearest guest bathroom to take a shower. My back was now fucking killing me, but I should be good to go with some hot water and a couple of Aleve.

Twenty minutes later, I found myself making a quick breakfast of eggs, bacon, and avocado toast in my kitchen. I didn’t bother cleaning the bathroom because that required bending, which wasn’t something I was willing to do considering my current state.

I grabbed my plate and settled at the kitchen island, sampling the bacon first and then taking a hefty bite out of my toast. I began to choke and spat out the toast. My eyes and nose ran, and my mouth felt like an inferno. I drowned myself in my orange juice, which still didn’t quell the raging fire on my tongue and throat. I hurled in the sink and was unable to catch my breath. I stumbled towards my fridge and drank straight from the carton of milk. My eager gulps had milk dribbling from my mouth and down my chin in rivulets, leaving my shirt soaked.

After a few minutes, I was able to gain my bearings and threw the carton of milk in the sink.

What the fuck? I’m pretty sure the grocery store doesn’t sell guacamole that fucking hot, and it didn’t taste like this yesterday.

I observed the package, confirmed that it was mild, and opened the lid to examine it. I brought the container to my face and smelled it.

Wasabi?! That fucking bitch! I planned to be the bigger person and let this go, but fuck that noise. That was two attempts on my life in one day. Zoe Justice, I’m coming for you.

As if I had just summoned a demon from hell, loud music attracted my attention to the kitchen window. I peered through the blinds and saw Zoe and what appeared to be a Frenchie climb into her white Jeep.

Zoe wore dark blue denim overalls, a gray sports bra, and tennis shoes.

Damn her parents for creating this sexy monster.

She recklessly pulled out of her driveway and sang along to the lyrics as she and her dog whipped down the street. I spent the rest of the day and night planning the perfect way to get her back.

  • Party Animals   Delivering a Message

**Elijah**An hour later, I managed to get us both cleaned up and in bed. Zoe had apologized profusely during our shower about throwing up on me. She even tried to reason with me and told me she was doing me a favor and preparing me for those four kids I was gunning for because babies were notorious for throwing up. I wanted to argue that there was a vast difference between baby vomit and grown-ass vomiting, but I was not about to argue with a drunk woman.I had barely been asleep for an hour when Zoe's phone began buzzing. I tried to ignore it, but it sounded like she was receiving text after text. The text messages stopped, but then she began receiving phone calls. I snatched up the phone and answered it."Hello?"He didn't answer. "Michael, what do you need?" I seethed."Uhhhh, is Zoe there?"Michael was slurring. He must have returned home and continued drinking. "Yeah, Michael, if I have her phone, she's here.""Put her on the phone.""I won't, and even if I could, she's sleeping

  • Party Animals   The Aftermath

**Elijah**I arrived at Zoe’s house an hour later, and Michael didn’t hesitate to jump out of the Jeep as soon as it shifted into park. I didn’t blame him. Awkward couldn’t describe how the remainder of the ride home went after our “talk.”My aggressiveness threw Michael off because, usually, when it came to our disagreements, I always took the passive approach; however, I couldn’t afford to be passive about the woman I could see as my future wife. Michael got off easy. He should be glad I was still riding the high from our date last night or I might have drowned him in the river.I was snapped out of my murderous thoughts by the sound of Zoe throwing up in the backseat. I prayed she found the plastic bag I left for her. I was almost afraid of turning around.“You all right back there, Mama?” I asked once she quieted. I took a peek at the rear-view mirror to see her open her mouth to respond when she threw up again. I patted myself on the back for thinking ahead and supplying the bag.

  • Party Animals   Floating II

**Elijah**I wished I could say I enjoyed the rest of the float, but I’d be lying. I was downright irate. I had my suspicions, and I still didn’t want to believe them, but I couldn’t help but wonder if Michael had feelings for Zoe. His behavior that day had been sketchy as hell, which, unfortunately, put me in an awkward position. There was no way around it. I would have to confront him.For once, I encouraged Zoe to drink, hoping she’d pass out in the Jeep and I could address my concerns with Michael without her butting in. I wondered if she had her suspicions as well. How did Michael behave towards Zoe when they were alone? I noticed Michael had been keeping Zoe out longer and longer on their visits, and now I know why. I trusted Zoe–1000%, but it was my brother I had difficulty trusting. All those talks he had with me about my relationship with Zoe and not getting serious didn’t seem so innocent any longer.I fully understood the appeal when it came to Zoe and how someone could eas

  • Party Animals   Floating

**Elijah**"No thanks. I'm good," I found myself saying for the fiftieth time as the boxed wine that was now a bag of wine was offered to me. I was sticking with my beer and had no desire to "slap the bag." I looked over at Michael, who hadn't as much as uttered a word since we started. He’s probably still sore from how I spoke to him earlier, but I'm not sorry. He was getting on my nerves. For all that shit he was talking about earlier about Zoe and her drinking, he had surpassed her, and I wondered if he would be able to make it to work in the morning.Zoe and her friends chatted excitedly about their trip to South Padre Island; deep down, I dreaded it. For one, I would miss Zoe like crazy, and for two, I was concerned about her safety. I didn’t want her to get into a situation where she was injured or some asshole attempted to take advantage of her.I lay back, closed my eyes, and tried to distract myself with the sun's warm rays. Spring had just begun, but it already felt like ear

  • Party Animals   Jeep Shenanigans

**Elijah**I grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her down to me. The kiss began slow and sweet, but her traveling hands made me impatient with need. I wanted more. I needed to feel her, taste her, consume her. I bit her bottom lip and eased my hands underneath her top to massage her breasts. She moaned lowly, and I couldn't help but take advantage and slip my tongue in. I soon ripped her shirt off, and she quickly returned the favor. "Ow!" I jumped at the feeling of her tweaking one of my nipples."My bad, Daddy," she giggled, leaning down to flick it with her moist tongue. I eagerly pulled her back into a kiss and didn't realize we had an audience until Sammy ruined all the fun and asked us to stop dry-humping so they could get in the water.Regrettably, Zoe removed her lips from mine, but I pulled her back down to whisper in her ear. "Tell him there's nothing dry about it because I'm sure you're soaked.""Eli, what's gotten into you? It's usually me who's wildly inappropriate,”

  • Party Animals   Masking the Pain

**Elijah****Earlier**I drove down the highway and grimaced at the sight of Zoe chugging her third beer. Moments ago, she had polished off a handful of Jell-O shots, and I was fearful that she would blackout before we made it to the river. I tried to tell her to take it easy, but I was quickly reminded to mind my business and that she was “built for this.”I was grateful I had come. There was no telling what condition Zoe might’ve been in by the end of the day."Mama?""What's up?" she asked, barely paying me any attention as she rapped to the lyrics on the radio. "I might be wrong, but did you eat anything today?""Negative.""You can't be drinking like that on an empty stomach. You should've eaten something when we stopped this morning.""I was not in the mood for drive-thru breakfast, and maybe if I didn't have to babysit you in the store, then I would've had time to fix myself something to eat. Don't worry, though; we have snacks to eat on the river. Just relax, Eli. This isn't m
