Victory?

Evan's expression was grim as he looked at the duo before him. He was very sure he could succeed in killing one of them, but that would inevitably lead to his death. His thoughts raced as he thought of ways to escape his precarious situation.

Unfortunately Noah and Alyssa didn't give him so much time.

Knowing that her partner was weak, Alyssa took the initiative to rush forward to occupy Evan's time, allowing Noah to rest a bit. On passing him, no one noticed that a few of the lights drifting from Noah's soul form were absorbed by her.

Dark Angel Sword: Hell's Judgment.

A large beam was launched at Evan but he was quick to raise a shield composed of fire to block the attack. He gritted his teeth and clenched his hand, risking his soul once more to execute his former techniques. "Blazing Meteor!" At his call, multiple meteors appeared above Alyssa's flying figure to strike her down.

Seeing this, she immediately chose to fully transform into her Phoenix form, utilizing its amazing dexterity to weave through the attacks before disappearing.

Evan's face twisted. He quickly tried to execute his Flame Flash but Noah had arrived to attack with his sword.

Dragon Slam. His sword cleaved down as an illusionary dragon claw materialized to slam down on Evan, disrupting his actions.

Alyssa then appeared from the Devilsoul master's shadow with the image of a dark Armored Knight behind her wielding a powerful sword. "Dark Angel Sword: Saint's Blade!"

"Aaargh!" For the first time, Evan shouted out in pain, his body twitching as he withstood the agony coursing through his soul.

It could be said that the best element meant to deal with the soul was the Darkness element. But Alyssa's former attacks weren't powerful enough to affect him much. But this did.

Unfortunately, she couldn't use it more as her Soul form visibly dimmed as a result of too much energy consumption. This was actually natural as this was the first time she had ever used the skill, it would be weirder if she could decrease the amount of energy spent on such an attack on her first try.

Noah smirked as he looked at the weakened Evan. "I must thank you for leading us here. If you had fought us in the outside world, I'm afraid we'd have no chance at fighting back at all."

Evan gritted his teeth as he glared at the boy before him. He couldn't understand why a simple soul possession could have gone so wrong. But then again, he was the one greedy enough to bring both of them into his soul world.

Thinking of this, the anger within him increased as he used another technique. "Hell Blaze Spiral!" A tornado composed of his soul damaging flames was conjured at his yell.

Noah glanced at this and readied his sword. His soul power coated it as he slashed at the air. "Violent Storm Sword, 3rd Sword: Crescent Moon." A crescent moon shaped slash filled with his soul power and compressed air left the blade and was launched at the incoming fire tornado.

An explosion rang out as both attacks actually neutralized each other.

This shocked Evan as this meant that he had weakened to the point that Noah could match him in strength. And this was without putting Alyssa into the equation. He quickly chose to use another of his techniques regardless of the damage it would cause to him. "Hell Blaze Rain."

Multiple fire balls were conjured in the air around him radiating intense might. Evan gasped as he felt his soul dim even further but he didn't hesitate to launch the attack at the duo.

Noah and Alyssa revealed grim expressions as they watched the barrage of fire balls approach them.

"Saint's Blade!" Alyssa immediately initiated her special attack once more, disregarding her dimming body.

"Crescent Moon." Noah slashed at the air releasing his attack. But instead of stopping he chose to attack two more times, sending out three crescent shaped slashes tearing through the sky.

Their two attacks managed to tear a hole in the middle of the massive fire ball formation, allowing them to run pass to meet the Devilsoul master.

Evan stood there with multiple thin strings of concentrated Soul fire waving like tentacles around him. It seemed like that attack was only a means to exhaust them.

"Tch." Noah clicked his tongue while taking a glance at his dim body that almost seemed translucent. "Void Steps, 2nd Step: Mirror Walk."

His body wavered as he teleported to Evan, appearing at multiple locations that left 4 afterimages to confuse his opponent.

"Damn you!" The Devilsoul master barely cared about Alyssa anymore, focusing all his attention on Noah. The tentacle-like strings around him flared crazily as they attacked at the five afterimages. Yet it turned out all five were fakes as the attacks simply phased through the bodies.

"Drill Thrust." The familiar whirlwind appeared once more as Noah attacked from the sky above.

"Kh!" Evan grunted as he quickly moved to the side to avoid the attack, sacrificing his entire arm in the process.

Alyssa had also appeared behind him at that point. "Dark Thorns." Her soul skill revealed itself as multiple thorns composed of concentrated darkness pierced through Evan's body to hold him down while she and Noah attacked with all their might.

The battle continued for about another hour as it ended with a stalemate. Evan was powerful but could never touch the duo, while they could never deal enough damage to kill him.

The three individuals stared at each other as each of them panted. Their bodies were near translucent, with Alyssa's being in the best condition and Evan's in the worst.

At the moment, the Devilsoul master couldn't have felt any more regret. If his Exalt Stage beast on the outside had been allowed into the palace, the two before him would have long been dead. And even if he couldn't possess their body, it was enough to heal his soul a bit. Now not only was he losing his chance at rebirth, he was also about to die.

His eyes burned with fury as he glared down at them with his soul form fluctuating. "Do not think you've won."

Noah's eyes widened as he felt Evan's intent. "Dragon Guard!" His power circulated as a dragon image appeared above he and Alyssa, it then curled its body around them as if to protect them.

Alyssa also noticed something off and executed her defensive technique, releasing a dome of darkness that appeared over the two of them and overlapped with the dragon.

Evan, on the other hand, sneered as he watched this. The power in his body became increasingly unstable as he laughed maniacally. "Haha! Do you think it's enough?! The explosion of the soul of a Grandmaster Stage Devilsoul master is much more powerful than you think, you can't escape this! If I can't kill the two of you, you can only die together with me!"

A resounding explosion rang out as the entire soul world shook at its core.

Noah's and Alyssa's defense could not defend against them in the end as their techniques shattered one after the other.

Seeing this and glancing at Noah's near translucent body, Alyssa gritted her teeth and pushed her partner backwards.

"You..." His eyes widened as he watched this but, in the next moment, the flames of the explosion swallowed them both.

  • Path of a Monarch   Memory Lane

As Noah stood in the middle of the large clearing his eyes glazed as past memories flooded him. Beneath him was a bloodied male, his arms were broken in multiple places, it was a surprise this person was even alive.Looking at the defeated look on the individual's face, Noah didn't feel happiness. He only thought of his beautiful sister. She was maybe the only thing that kept him moving in this camp. In truth, the teenager had never delved quite deep into Martial arts before. He had learnt it for self protection only and because his family forced him to. His family... Noah belonged to a family of militants, with unending loyalty to the government. The amount of blood that had been spilled because of that family was really too much, he wanted nothing with that.Of course, to a family of cold blooded Martial artists, such an attitude was unbecoming of their blood. Especially when the attitude came from a genius of the family. They resorted to many means, torture being one of them, surp

  • Path of a Monarch   Luck

Unfortunately Noah wouldn't think of such a minor detail. He didn't know much about the aspect of the Battlesoul world called Soul force. Only experts at the Grandmaster Stage would dare engage in a soul battle and even then, they would protect their Soul forms so that no unnecessary bits of their soul would be lost. Noah and Alyssa had just gotten lucky. The Devilsoul master barely possessed a hundredth of his original strength so the duo could win after putting up a hard fight. Sadly, they had lost a significant amount of Soul force and would have to rest for a period of time as they didn't possess Wills or even Intents to restore their Soul force so they could only wait for their souls to recover naturally. Luckily, the duo possessed Emperor Grade Battlesouls so it wouldn't take much time to gain their battle strength again, although they wouldn't be able to strain themselves much.Noah hesitated for a while but still spoke as he faced Alyssa. "Why did you save me back there?"The

  • Path of a Monarch   Memories

Noah opened his eyes to be greeted by a weird scene. His body seemed to be in the sky as he gazed down at a happy trio. The two standing side by side were an adult couple. The man possessed black hair and hazel colored eyes with average features you could find anywhere on the streets. The woman, on the other hand, was actually quite beautiful, possessing silky black hair and bright blue eyes. Her features were simply heaven-defying, any normal man would immediately drop to their feet seeing this beauty. This kind of woman could only be a noble.Yet Noah could see that this two, the man who was most definitely a commoner and a noble woman, were together as married couples. The reason was because of the three years old girl that was playing about in the field before them, trying her best to catch a small bird sized Phoenix. Looking at her face, it was easy to see that the child had taken her features from her mother. The cuteness emitted from her face could cause any father to fly over

  • Path of a Monarch   Battle of attrition

Noah's figure blurred as he dashed forward with Dragon Steps. He had found out that everything he could use even in his past life could be used here within the Soul world as long as his body had form. Because of this, this skill was brought to its former glory.Unlike the times when he used the skill, instead of reinforcing his legs with blood essence, a strange energy wrapped around him and brought him forward with tremendous speed reaching 200 meters per second! This was more than half the speed of sound! On Earth, Martial arts training could be divided into two stages; Internal Force and External Force. The former dealt with the strengthening of one's body and internal organs while the latter could materialize one's life force to attack. These two stages were very hard to set foot in. More than half of Martial arts practitioners failed to get into the Internal Force stage and half of that number couldn't get into the External Force stage. But Noah did.Dragon Fist Cannon!Unlike th

  • Path of a Monarch   Devilsoul Master

Of course before arriving at the Ruins of a famous Battlesoul master, anybody would research about him.Evan Hills was a member of one of the Great Houses, the Hills House. He was actually an average Battlesoul master, someone with a low General Grade Battlesoul, someone who would most likely never touch upon the Exalt Stage.Yet he did. And splendidly so.He had managed to forcefully evolve his Battlesoul into one that barely counted as a Marquis Grade Battlesoul. With this, he was able to advance into the Exalt Stage. And from then, he showcased his new talent, showcasing his strength. The process of this was quite confusing but many guessed that maybe his Family had spent a large amount of resources on him, after all, it was a Great House. But now Noah understood. What evolution? Devilsoul masters were people who possessed attributes that
