Stephanie was driving down the road from her new apartment to the Breakfast and Bed restaurant. Tiffany rode with her in the front seat.
"Come on, look alive!" Stephanie said, eyeing Tiffany from the corner of her eyes. "You always tell me to go out with Kane. Today I've decided we will all go out on a friendship date and you look gloomy as hell."
"I don't think he would appreciate me coming along," Tiffany said, not hiding her frustration.
"Look at the bright side," Stephanie said, finally entering the street where the restaurant was situated. She could see its facade. "With you by my side I'll be more confident in playing along with his demands."
"Just accept his marriage proposal already," Tiffany groaned. "Shane is gone, you should live on."
"Honestly," Stephanie said, turning off the ignition as the car stood still in the parking lot. "I've considered doing that tonight."
"Really?" Stephanie shrieked. "That's awesome!"
As the duos walked into the restaurant, Stephanie made a comment about how filled the restaurant was on a Saturday night. They found Kane who had been seated in a corner of the restaurant for a couple of minutes earlier.
"Hello darling," Stephanie said.
"Hello love," Kane replied. "Hey Tiff, it's nice of you to join us."
"Yeah she practically dragged me here since I always spend most Saturdays in her living room," Tiffany said, taking her seat.
Meanwhile, Simon and Simone had been seated adjacent to the trios of the Stephanie squad. "That's her right there! The dark girl, she's so gorgeous, but you see what I mean, why does she have to bring a friend on a date?" Simone said in hush whispers to Simon.
"How do you know they are on a date?" Simon said, watching the delighted trios place their orders. He had been thinking for a while now that Kane felt vaguely familiar. Stephanie, as he looked at her more intently also looked recognizable.
"Simon I know when a man is wooing a woman," Simone said softly. "Look at how he is so fixated on her. He cant take his eyes off her for even a second. How rude, if I were the other lady I'd be offended!"
"You mean you aren't?" Simon asked, chiding.
"Stop it, you know I'm so jealous right now," Simone said. "Think I should go and remind him about me?"
"Simone hell not!" Simon said, looking horrified. "You have been sitting here and had like over ten minutes or so to make your move when he was alone."
"It's fun this way," Simone said, rising before Simon could stop her. "He will see he has a better choice."
Simon had wished his sister had not gone. However, this was Simone. She had all the experiences with this kind of stuff. Just when Simon had assumed the night could not get any more populated Peter Brooklyn walked in looking totally different from earlier. He spotted Simon and was walking happily towards him.
"Simon!" Peter called, happily. "You're out here dining alone. I guess everywhere is filled. May I join you?"
"Peter, I'm not alone," Simon said tersely. "That's my sister's seat. The moment she gets back you go and occupy the one over there."
"Wow lucky guy," Peter said looking in the direction of Simon's eyes. "Oh my gosh! Small world! That's Tiffany, my high school crush. We used to talk about astrology together back in the days."
"Lucky you," Simon said. "Simone will be back anytime soon."
Simone had occupied the seat next to Tiffany and across from Kane and Stephanie. "Thank you so much for your concern the other day Mr Kane! My brother's over there all fine now. Sorry ladies, hope I'm not intruding?"
"Not really," Kane said. "Congrats to your bro."
"Not at all," Stephanie said, smiling softly. "Glad to hear your brother has recovered."
"Wow! I do recognize your face. This isn't the first time you come in here with Kane is it?" Simone said, feigning being confused.
"No," Stephanie said.
"Are the both of you a couple?" Simone asked, endearingly.
"No-"
"Yes!" Kane said, interrupting Stephanie. "I mean we are dating. We aren't married yet. Depends on what sense you mean by the word 'couple'."
Simone giggled and Tiffany felt mildly irritated so she said, "Do you mind please? We were having a private discussion. I'm sure you have a seat where your brother is."
"Sure thing love," Simone said, slamming her palm on the table and rising. "Kane, I'm looking forward to hearing from you more."
Simone walked back to her table confidently. Peter had already gotten up but she blocked his way. "Are you leaving without introducing yourself to the twin sister?"
"I'm Peter!" he said, smiling. "I'm sure you remember me. I'm pretty sure I didn't have the wrong number."
"Oh my! Peter!" Simone said, stepping aside. "You look well dressed. I thought you'd be cladded in keffiyeh and long tunics."
Peter laughed, "You know your Arab wears but then you must be very assumptious. Hope you shot your shot nicely? Oh no your brother said nothing. I have keen eyes."
"I gave it a try," she said, liking Peter every second. However, Peter backed away slowly towards his high school crush.
Peter Brooklyn spun around and said, "Hello Tiffany it's been a long time. Do you still remember me?"
"Oh my Goodness! Peter!" Tiffany said excitedly.
"The one and only, hello everyone."
"This is Peter, my high school friend. We used to study astrology together," Tiffany said.
"Nice to meet you Peter," Stephanie said.
"Astrologist Peter, perhaps you could tell my fortune with this beautiful lady," Kane said. "Are we going to get married?"
Peter looked unsure then shrugged, "It will cost you five hundred dollars."
"Sure," Kane said. He counted out five, hundred dollar bills from his wallet. "Here it is."
Peter grabbed the money and did not let go of Kane's hand. His eyes seemed to shoot skyward and he lowered his gaze down slowly.
"How well do you take bad news?" Peter asked, pocketing the dollar bills.
"Don't worry," Kane said. "You're a fraud."
"Really? Why don't you ask her right now?" Peter said, keeping his cool.
"Steph, you'll marry me right?"
"I'm still thinking about it dear," Stephanie said, wondering why Peter had a mischievous smile on his face. The man must have really been a fortune teller. She had planned on accepting Kane's proposal but she had instantly felt drawn to someone else in the room. Whether or not she wanted to admit it, Stephanie had felt what it was like to fall in love at first sight. Both Kane and Tiffany had been shocked by her response. Kane got up and left the restaurant in anger.
"Great news Simon!" Simone said, eyes wide open. They were sitting on the soft grass in the beautiful orchard that surrounded the driveway of the mansion."What news? Come on, tell me!" Simon said, sounding desperate for it."Dad has decided that we all will go to California for the summer," Simone said."Woah!" Simon said, enthusiastically. "That would be awesome!""Yea of course it'll be," she replied. They both fell silent for a while.Simon forced his eidetic memory to remember if he had been to California but there was no record of it. He was familiar with California. It was one of the coolest resort centres in the world filled with beautiful beaches and it was the perfect place for a summer vacation. A slight breeze blew, the grass swayed gracefully beneath the spectrum of the descending sun. Looking at the horizon, Simon saw the blazing clouds. His
Kane had driven past the B and B restaurant and continued on his way down to the construction site. He was slowly starting to resent the restaurant. Over the past few hours he had struggled with himself not to go and check in on Stephanie. She was a tough nut to crack. One minute he thought he had her, and the next she was turning down his marriage proposal. He breathed the air of the city deep into his lungs and there was a warm feeling accompanied with it. He noticed the changes in the leaves of the trees and grasses on the lawns. They had started to dry up, making them turn shades of brown or yellow. He spotted a woman watering her flowers in her garden near her front porch. It indeed felt like summer was approaching. Part of the sky looked remarkably orange in color as the sun went down.As he rounded up a corner entering Pearls Street, he saw the construction site come into sight. He just wanted to have a view of it, he told
Kane and Stephanie were still sitting on the window pavement. His phone was buzzing. He answered, "Hello, who's on the line?""Hello Kane, it's me Simone," she said. Kane looked at Stephanie but she was smiling softly at him. She was sitting close enough to hear both of their conversations."Simone Solomon?" Kane asked, looking astonished."Yes. I know you're wondering how I got your number," Simone said, pausing for his response."Well, it's my business line, I mean you could literally just get it off my company's website. But hey I never told you what job I worked, so yeah I'm wondering.""I'm not contacting you for business Mr Kane. Far from it," Simone said, pausing for three seconds. "Where are you now? I'm at the B and B. Could you make it there? I really want to see you please.""Well I'm really busy," Kane said. Stephanie ga
The Joker Grand hotel was legally owned by the Solomon's. Tonight its beautiful event hall was used as the venue for the book launch of Try Again. Try Again was written by New York bestselling author Erik Wilson. He had written three successful books on reincarnation stories and this was the fourth. It never got boring.Journalists, reporters, sponsors, and other famous writers gathered here. Stephanie and Tiffany were dressed in long embroidered gowns that made them look like princesses. They strided through the long red carpeted floor moving towards Peter Brooklyn and his friend. They both had their backs against the ladies and were talking and laughing at the same time. Peter had gotten them their invites. As they closed in on Peter, they saw who he had been talking animatedly with from a distance. It was none other than Erik Wilson the author. Erik was an average human with a clean shaven head and light brown eyes. He wore a transp
Erik had gone ahead and talked briefly about the characters and plots contained in his book. Then he got up and said, "I have a demonstration to make and I'd like to invite my friend Peter Brooklyn who's an astrologist and mystics to join me up on stage." "What's this about?" Tiffany asked Peter who was already getting up. "I don't know what Erik wants from me," Peter said corkily. "But it's gotta be very amazing going up on stage with the star of the night." Simone cleared her throat which made Stephanie and Tiffany turn their attention to her. Simone then went on to say, "Hello ladies this must feel awkward but believe me it's nothing. We picked this seat because we know you guys and it'll probably be the last time we will be seeing each other in a while. Tiffany you can stop scowling now." "I just don't get you Simone," Tiffany said. "Why are you stalking someone else's fiance?"
The book launch had come to an end with the demonstration. Erik and Peter were still up on stage. They could be seen attending to a line of people. Stephanie was walking back to the table with Simon."Hey that was really weird," Simon said."Yeah I am not sure how I feel after that," Stephanie said, pausing in her tracks. "I mean I was so sure I'd fail at least once!""You bet!" Simon said, "I thought it was a bluff but now I'm starting to feel otherwise."Stephanie continued walking and she said, "Anyways, I think it's a trick. I watch a lot of magic shows. We should inspect those pearls properly. Maybe there's a way it changes its colors."They arrived at their table. Simone and Tiffany looked like Tom and Jerry forced to be in the same space. Something in Simon's memory made him think Tiffany would have been the kind of girl he should like. However, his emoti
Stephanie had a feeling of a growing confusion. On one hand, she was tired of leading Kane on, but on the other, she also knew she didn't know much about Simon to pick him over Kane. She just felt drawn to him from the day she first saw him at the B's. Kane had been chill after she had slapped him the other day, which was totally impulsive. She hadn't meant to do that, but why would he lash out like that? There was something she hated about it when men acted without thinking or displaying signs of violence. The day had arrived when she was going to travel to California. Kane would be coming to her apartment any minute now to take her to the airport. Tiffany had gone to Hawaii with Peter. She appreciated the time alone and she reflected on her feelings. On one hand she really liked Kane but on the other she felt she was keeping him as an option. She was scared to lose him even though she didn't want him. It made her feel terrible.
Kane felt a wave of nuesa hit him and he threw up in the kitchen sink. He was feeling a little sickly right after the trip to California. He had mentioned that to Stephanie but he didn't expect it to get so serious. Stephanie stood behind his large frame as he flushed the vomit with water from the tap. He rinsed his mouth and washed his face. Stephanie rubbed his back gently. He was shivering when she assisted him down to the couch. She went to fetch a blanket from his room. He had given her the direction. She inspected the boyish room. It had posters of different buildings. There were several textbooks on the table and a framed picture faced down. She lifted the frame and saw the two brothers, Kane and Shane. Kane stood on Shane's left, he had his arm placed over Shane's shoulder and his head was tilted towards Shane.St
