Chapter 38: Day 6 (The scary revelation)

The sixth day of summer was a Sunday.

After a night of sinful pleasure, Kane and Simone woke up to the tolling of the church bell on the beach.

"Gosh, I hate that sound!" Kane said, groaning. "I hated it as a kid, and I still hate it now."

"Good morning, baby," Simone said, leaning into him for a quick kiss. "I thought the Griffin's owned everything on the beach back then?"

"We did."

"So why did your parents decide to put a church on the beach? Are they religious?"

Kane arranged his pillows and propped his back comfortably on them as he sat up. "Not really; the church wasn't always here until a series of deaths began occurring on this beach. They built the church to ward off any evil presence."

Stephanie gave him a skeptical look. "Evil presence? Deaths?"

Kane nodded, and she laughed.

"Well, did the number of deaths reduce after the church-"

"No, people still died," said Kane, cutting in.

"That's goddamn awful. I assume the dying people were those who came to visit the beach?"
