Chance

I kept my head down with my hood up, hoping no one would recognize me. But yeah, who was I kidding? Nothing stays hidden in Ashford. The stares were different today though. Yesterday, they looked shocked. Today? They looked intrigued. Interested even.

Everywhere I turned, people were whispering. They kept looking at me and grinning. It was all so confusing and frustrating. Last week, I was just a regular student. By the weekend, I was the laughing stock of the school, and today? Well, today I had no idea what I was. I missed my boring old life. I hate Mason for this.

“ You are literally so famous now,” Selene said dramatically as she dropped her Chanel bag on the table.

I groaned.

“ I hate this. I hate Mason. I hate Raid. I hate everybody.”

“ No you don't. You just hate that everyone saw you exchange spit with Raid Bennett. Though you still haven't told me how that happened,” she said, looking at me expectantly.

Heat instantly climbed up my neck.

“ Please don't remind me,” I said, ignoring her question.

Selene snorted. “ Girl, Ashford Gossip Pot posted your kiss from four different angles. You are basically celebrity gossip. I am jealous honestly.”

I groaned, looking around the classroom. I noticed she was right. Worst part? Raid hadn't stopped texting me. The psychopath sent me five messages this morning. Not that I was counting.

Psycho - Good morning sweet cheeks

Psycho - Slept well?

Psycho - Damn, I bet you look cute with bed hair

Psycho - You know, I dreamt of you

Psycho - Don't ignore me. It turns me on.

See? Crazy psychopath.

Speaking of texting, I turned to Selene, who was touching up her makeup as the bell rang and students began flooding in. “ Dear friend, how did Raid get my number?” I asked, smiling sweetly at her.

She chuckled nervously, avoiding eye contact.

“ How am I supposed to know?” she stuttered.

I rolled my eyes. Real slick. Mrs Wade came in and class started. Unfortunately for me, Raid was in chemistry. He strolled in like he owned the place.

“ Morning baby,” he yelled as he walked towards me.

My eyes went wide and my face flushed as the class burst into laughter.

“ Mr Bennett,” Mrs Wade warned.

He raised his hands in surrender as Mrs Wade shook her head in disapproval. He finally sat down next to me. Selene looked like she was about to pass out as Raid waved at her.

Mason, who was two rows ahead, noticed. Hell, everyone noticed. I kept my eyes on my notes. Maybe if I ignored him, he would go away.

“ You always this serious?” he whispered so close to my ear. His breath made my body tingle. Ignoring him would definitely not work.

“ You always this annoying?” I retorted, trying not to make it obvious how he was affecting me.

“ Yeah.” At least he was self-aware.

Mrs Wade was explaining the equations on the board. For three seconds, Raid stayed quiet. I almost thought he was going to focus, then I felt something hit my elbow. Looking down, I saw a piece of folded paper. I turned to glare at him. He batted his eyes innocently at me. Asshole. I unfolded the paper.

“ You look hot blushing this morning,” it read, and I almost combusted. Quickly, I wrote on the paper, “ Shut up.” I passed it to him. He read it, grinned, then wrote again and passed it back to me.

“ Make me.”

Idiot.

I ignored him after that. I had no idea what Mrs Wade was talking about because of a certain blue-eyed monster. I thought he was done being childish, but then I felt his finger brush mine under the desk. I jumped and shot daggers at him.

He smirked, obviously pleased with himself. “ Stop distracting me,” I whisper-yelled, looking around to make sure no one was watching.

“ I am not doing anything,” he whispered back.

He was messing with me, and I was reacting. I don't usually react no matter how much people piss me off, but Raid knew just how to get under my skin. Even more than Mason did.

“ You smell so good.”

My face heated instantly. Oh my God.

“ Bennett. Monroe.”

Both our heads snapped up. Mrs Wade was staring at us. Then I noticed the class had gone quiet. Oh no. My face burned with embarrassment when I realized everyone was staring.

“ Since you two are clearly more interested in each other's faces than ionic compounds, perhaps you would like to continue whatever this is in detention.”

My soul left my body. The entire class burst into laughter. Raid looked unbothered. Meanwhile, I wanted death instantly.

“ Sorry Mrs Wade,” I quickly apologized. I had never gotten detention before. Raid leaned back lazily.

“ My bad Mrs Wade, she's just really distracting.”

I flushed. Oh God. He had no filter.

The guys groaned loudly while the girls giggled.

I kicked him under the desk hard. He laughed, not even fazed by it. Mrs Wade pinched the bridge of her nose, obviously tired of the situation.

“ One more interruption and you both get detention.”

Raid looked delighted.

“ Detention together,” he repeated. “ Damn, that's basically a date.”

He smirked as the class erupted in laughter again.

Mrs Wade looked exhausted as she sighed. “ Bennett.”

“ Sorry.”

He absolutely was not sorry.

Because when I looked at him, he winked again.

I could feel eyes on me, so I looked up and saw Mason. He looked seconds away from murder. Something we both could agree on.

When the bell finally rang, I practically jumped out of my seat. Unfortunately, Raid grabbed my wrist before I could escape.

“ Lunch with me.”

“ Absolutely, handsome,” Selene replied before I could turn him down.

He nodded at us and then walked off with Julian while I stared daggers at my friend. There was no escaping him now.

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Flashback

RaidFlashbackI stared at my phone as I contemplated if I should call her or not. My fingers danced over her contact and I groaned when I couldn't click on it.Why is it so hard to fucking call her? It's a stupid fake date for Christ's sake and here I am freaking out like she was my actual girlfriend. This is so stupid."Twenty minutes," one of the twins said to me. I didn't even look up to know which one. My head was all messed up right now because of a crazy nerd. I chuckled at my own frustration. This was new.Deciding not to text her, I pocketed my phone and got on Sissy. She roared to life when I started her and the sound was able to distract me from my internal dilemma, at least for now.I needed to focus. I had to win this race. I knew I had it in the bag but I had never been distracted like this before, so I was low-key scared.I sighed and waited till it was time to start. You got this, I said to myself as I pushed every thought of her to the back of my head. The race starte

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Hickeys

ChanceHe was now sitting up against the headboard staring at me and I was trying so hard not to have an internal breakdown because his dull eyes were boring holes into me.I cleared my throat. "What happened to you?" I asked."Chance Monroe skipping school to come find me? I feel honored. Damn you worried about me baby?" He tried to change the subject with his usual cockiness and smirk but failed when he groaned and held his stomach.I raised my brow at him. He sighed and then shook his head."I appreciate the concern Monroe but it's nothing ok? I will be good as new by tomorrow" he said seriously. His tone held a note of finality that told me he didn't want to talk about it.I sighed as I sat on his bed. I knew I didn't exactly have the right to ask him but I couldn't help it. Seeing him all battered, bruised and weak was not ok. I don't blame him though. We aren't real. Which is why I am still baffled I came here."You could have at least answered my calls" I mumbled suddenly feeli

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Bruised

ChanceI fumbled with my pen as I tried to focus on what Mrs Wade was saying. I was failing. My stupid brain refused to focus on my favorite subject but rather on the one person I currently hate with every bane of my existence. It was Monday and still no word from my fake boyfriend. At first I was so angry, then I got irritated and now, as much as I hate to say it, I am worried. He didn't show up to school. It's one thing for him to stand me up and ignore my texts and calls but not showing up to school scared me.Who am I kidding? This is Raid Bennett we are talking about here. That prick wasn't exactly a committed student so I might be worrying myself for nothing and he was out there doing something careless or stupid, maybe both.I shook my head as I decided to focus on what the teacher was saying. He is fine, just being an asshole as usual."Are you ok?" Selene whispered as she stared at me, pointing at my hand. Then I noticed I was biting on my pen.Shit.He was messing with my h

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Hooking up

SeleneThe thing about Julian Cross was that he never stayed long enough to make it awkward. It was just simple. Come over, have mind blowing sex and then leave. Simple. But I was starting to get tired of simple.Like now, he was already pulling his shirt on before I had even caught my breath properly, moving around my room comfortably, gathering his scattered clothes.I watched him from the bed with my hair everywhere and the sheets barely hiding anything and said nothing because it was simple. He was annoyingly good looking. That was the root of the whole problem honestly. If Julian Cross had been even slightly less attractive this entire situation could have been avoided. But no. He had to have that jaw and those eyes that drew me in and made me breathless. He was different from the other jocks and that's saying alot. I knew he sleeps around, I didn't mind at first but now? Now he is messing with my head.He laughs genuinely at my jokes and doesn't call me crazy. Oh and don't get m

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Balls on the line

ChanceI never knew how interesting my ceiling was until today. Somehow, I was back to staring at my ceiling.I genuinely didn't know how this kept happening. One minute I was letting Selene do things to my hair, and now I was flat on my back in my hoodie, staring at the same water stain that has been there for years now.Just me.And the ceiling. He was supposed to pick me up at seven. Well, it's way past seven. In fact, it's eight forty-five.I wasn't upset. Nope. Definitely not upset.I was annoyed. There was a difference. Upset implied I had invested something significant into this evening, and I had not done that. At least not yet. I had simply gotten dressed, allowed Selene to spend two hours on my hair, and pushed my study materials to the side, and that was all completely normal behavior that meant nothing. The study materials on the floor said otherwise.I ignored them. The soft knock at my door made me sigh.Mom."Come in," I sighed.Mom appeared and leaned against the door.

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    The game

ChanceThe Ashford rink was loud before the game even started.I had never been to a hockey game in my life and I walked in behind Selene trying to look like I had done this before which was harder than it sounds when you were wearing an outfit that was not your usual hoodie and jeans situation and every third person was turning to look at you. Definitely hard but I was here already. No turning back now.Selene had good taste. I had on dark fitted jeans, a leather jacket, a top that was simple enough to feel like me but put together enough to feel like I was making a point. Which I obviously was. I felt good. I hated admitting that but I felt good and the way a few people's eyes tracked us walking in confirmed that Selene knew exactly what she was doing. Then my eyes found my target.Mason was already there.I clocked him without looking for him. Third row, slightly left of center, sitting with his usual crowd. He saw me exactly four seconds after I saw him. I watched his jaw do the t

RaidIt is always the quiet ones. They are the craziest and the freakiest. I chuckled as I thought about it.I wa

ChanceI guess I didn't think this whole revenge thing through. I mean, I got what I wanted. Mason was embarrassed this morning, but the aftermath? I didn't think that part through.
