Chance pov

He's already getting on my nerves. That annoying jock left me standing in the boys' bathroom like a fool. “I'll think about it,” he said, like it was a business proposal. He is so full of himself, it irks me. Unfortunately, I need him for my plan. So today, I am not taking anything but yes as an answer.

“Chancy!” Selene screeched, pulling through the flock of students to get to me. I groaned, slamming my locker shut. I was not in the mood for her craziness this morning. I started walking towards my first class, AP Calculus. She fell into step with me, bouncing like a kid in a candy store. How is she so hype in the morning?

“Hey Chancy, guess what?” she said, smiling so wide it was blinding.

“What?” I asked, trying to sound as uninterested as I could.

She pouted, pushing her glossy lips toward my face. “Can you at least be a little bit more alive? You look like the mommy.”

“Gee, thanks bestie.” I rolled my eyes.

“Hey nerd,” some jock said, pointing at me, earning laughter from his wannabe cool friends.

“Beat it, Mark, with your Kermit the Frog face,” Selene replied and I snickered. Mark's friends ooed and ahhed. High school. Mark flipped her off.

“Anyway,” Selene continued, “about the surprise, I-”

“Chance.”

I froze. I turned around to see Mason walking towards us with Avery clinging to him, while his football friends followed like backup dancers. Mason looked annoyed. Actually, he looked pissed.

“What?” I replied flatly.

He scoffed. “Wow, you are really going to pretend right now?”

I blinked at him, genuinely curious what he was on about.

“My tires got slashed last night,” he said with a raised eyebrow, clearly accusing me of slashing them. He was just being ridiculous because there's no way-

Immediately my eyes drifted to Selene, who suddenly looked interested in her well- manicured hands. Oh my God. That was the surprise.

“You slashed his tires?” I whisper-yelled at her. She shrugged. What am I going to do with her?

“So you admit it? Chance, this is low even for you. I get it, you are heartbroken. Move on,” Mason said, looking between Selene and me.

What? My jaw tightened.

“Excuse me?”

“Look honey, I get it. I would be angry too if I got dumped and humiliated for a hotter, less nerdy version. But vandalizing his car? That's insane, sweetheart,” Avery said with fake sympathy.

She's really the b-word.

“Child, I know you not talking about yourself with those messed up attachments,” Selene replied, ready to fight.

“Selene,” I hissed because I wasn't trying to get detention. Knowing Selene, she would fight Avery, Mason, and the entire football team.

Mason stepped forward slightly, closer to me now. It brought back memories. “You need to move on, I already have. Stop embarrassing yourself, Chance. You are better than these childish antics.”

I will admit, that one hurt. The way he said it so casually, like six months meant nothing to him. Like I was some crazy ex who was still clingy.

I opened my mouth to reply but was cut off with screams. At first, I thought it was an emergency or something. Turns out it was Raid Bennett making an entrance. I rolled my eyes. Girls and guys were giving him heart eyes. Even Selene couldn't stop staring. He was walking with so much arrogant confidence.

“Hey baby.”

The entire hallway went silent. I was so lost in thought I didn't know he was standing alongside me or that he called me baby or that his hand was hanging around my waist leisurely, until Selene nudged me.

Snapping back to reality, I stared at him in shock. He was so close I could smell his cologne mixed with his masculine scent. His face was a few inches away from mine, his blue eyes shining with mischief.

Oh God. This was what I wanted, right? Why does it feel like I had just unleashed something that would hunt me?

“You spacing out again, love? Or is this you trying to make me forget what you did last night?” he said, causing more gasps to erupt around us. Then I noticed students recording us. I stared at him in shock. He looked amused, obviously enjoying catching me off guard. Meanwhile, Selene looked like she was seconds away from having cardiac arrest. I was too.

“Wait… what?” Avery said, finally breaking the silence. Raid finally looked at Mason, his signature smirk back on his face.

“Pretty boy,” he greeted mockingly.

“What the fuck is this? What games are you playing this time, Bennett?” Mason snarled, his expression dark and lethal.

Raid genuinely looked confused. “What mind games? Standing beside my girlfriend?”

Girlfriend? I felt heat rush to my face when his grip on my waist tightened like he was really claiming me. The hallway practically combusted. Students, hell, even teachers could not believe what was going on. Me too.

“Bullshit,” Mason scoffed, though he looked less confident than before.

“Come on, you don't believe me?” Raid said, making eyes like a wounded puppy. God, he was handsome. Oh no, Chance, he is not handsome, at least not to you. I let out a yelp when he pulled me flush against him, earning giggles from the girls. My hands rested on his chest, his rock-hard chest, to steady myself.

“How about we give them a show, sweet cheeks?” he asked with his eyebrow raised. Before I could make sense of what he meant, he kissed me. Right in the middle of Ashford High, in front of everybody. My brain stopped working. I unintentionally closed my eyes and kissed him back.

Maybe it was shock, maybe it was revenge, or maybe I had just lost my damn mind, but for a few seconds, I forgot I wasn't supposed to be kissing him. I could hear whistles and phone flashes but all my brain could recognize was his lips on mine.

Raid finally pulled away. I opened my eyes to see him staring at me smugly, then he winked at me before turning to look at Mason, who looked like he was ready to commit murder.

“How's that for bullshit?”

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    No feelings

ChanceMy stomach has been flipping since he got here. I can't believe I have him in my bed. Okay no, that came out wrong. I groaned internally. Why am I deviating from the point? Raid Bennett, Ashford's evil, was in my bed for tutoring.Or pretending to.Because for the last twenty minutes, he had done nothing except flirt, distract me, and look way too comfortable in my personal space.“We actually need to talk about this fake dating thing,” I finally said, leaning back in my chair.Raid stretched lazily across my bed like he paid rent here. “Sounds serious.”“It is serious.”“Alright.” He sat up slightly, resting his arms behind his head. “Talk to me, sweet cheeks.”I rolled my eyes automatically, ignoring the heat that crawled up my neck. “First of all, stop calling me that.”“Nope.”“Raid,” I groaned.“What? It’s cute.”“It’s annoying.”“Actually, you’re annoying.”I glared at him while he grinned shamelessly. God, talking to him was exhausting. Taking a deep breath, I tried focu

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Tutoring

RaidPractice was absolute hell.Coach Daniels nearly killed us for two straight hours because apparently “state champions don’t skate like sleep deprived dads.” Which honestly felt targeted toward Cass because that idiot almost slammed face first into the barrier after missing an easy pass.“Bennett” Coach barked across the rink. “If your head is somewhere else, get it back here.” The guys immediately started snickering. I flipped them off while skating backwards.Because yeah, maybe my head was somewhere else. Specifically a certain angry brunette with sharp eyes and a smart mouth.Which was annoying as shit. But I liked it.“Cap’s distracted,” Mathias sang from beside me.“Definitely whipped,” Cass added.“Shut up before I body check both of you.”They laughed harder. The worst part? They weren’t entirely wrong.Chance Monroe had been stuck in my head since the cafeteria. The blushing. The glaring. The way she nearly exploded every time I touched her.Cute.By the end of practice,

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Insane

Chance“Did you see them?”“They were literally flirting in class earlier.”“Raid Bennett is insane.”“I would die if he looked at me like that.”Lunch was somehow worse.Everyone was staring at Selene and me immediately we walked in, and then the gossip started. Whom, by the way, I was angry at. Traitor.“Girrl,” she squeaked as we stood in line. “Detention date?” Of course the people in front of us heard her crazy self.“Shut up, Selene,” I hissed. “Oh, and I am very pissed at you.” I narrowed my eyes at her. She flipped me off.“You will get over it. But seriously, Chancy, what the hell was that?” she demanded dramatically, putting her hands on her hips like a Mexican grandmother. “The touching, the notes, the smelling.”I groaned when I heard giggles from the girls behind us. “Stop making it worse than it already is.”“Please, it’s already worse. Raid was flirting with you in chemistry. CHEMISTRY. Nobody can survive that. Are you okay? Do you need to see a doctor?”After filling m

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Chemistry and Date

ChanceI kept my head down with my hood up, hoping no one would recognize me. But yeah, who was I kidding? Nothing stays hidden in Ashford. The stares were different today though. Yesterday, they looked shocked. Today? They looked intrigued. Interested even.Everywhere I turned, people were whispering. They kept looking at me and grinning. It was all so confusing and frustrating. Last week, I was just a regular student. By the weekend, I was the laughing stock of the school, and today? Well, today I had no idea what I was. I missed my boring old life. I hate Mason for this.“ You are literally so famous now,” Selene said dramatically as she dropped her Chanel bag on the table.I groaned.“ I hate this. I hate Mason. I hate Raid. I hate everybody.”“ No you don't. You just hate that everyone saw you exchange spit with Raid Bennett. Though you still haven't told me how that happened,” she said, looking at me expectantly.Heat instantly climbed up my neck.“ Please don't remind me,” I sa

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Unknown Number

ChanceI guess I didn't think this whole revenge thing through. I mean, I got what I wanted. Mason was embarrassed this morning, but the aftermath? I didn't think that part through. I thought being humiliated and dumped was hot gossip.Oh, I was so wrong. After the hallway kiss, I barely made it to class before the stares and finger-pointing started. It was like a circus. I knew Raid would make Mason jealous and uncomfortable, but I didn't think it would make people go crazy. Hell, even teachers were looking at me funny. Everyone forgot about the humiliation video. They were more interested in the kissing one.The kiss.Oh my God.I kissed Raid Bennett in front of the entire school. I still cannot believe it. I knew fake dating him would need some convincing, and yes, he said he needed time to consider my proposal. I just didn't think he would actually kiss me.I can't stop thinking about the kiss. it happened a few hours ago, and yes, it was hot. I have to admit, he was a good kisser

  • Playing Dirty With My Ex's Rival    Smart girls turn me on

RaidIt is always the quiet ones. They are the craziest and the freakiest. I have seen a lot of crazy girls, I mean batshit crazy, and I avoid girls like that, but there's something about this nerd that pulls me in. She literally followed me into the bathroom. I chuckled as I thought about it.I was already interested in the game she wanted to play the moment she approached me. Anything to get into Mason Chester's head. Mason and I have been rivals since middle school. We competed for everything despite being involved in different sports. So when Ashford pinned us against each other, we just went with it. When his ex approached me, it was easy to say yes, but I just had to mess with her. Like this morning.I had no intention of kissing her, but I saw how Mason and his crew were embarrassing her, so I had to step in. The kiss was just an unscripted scene. It wasn't bad though.“Cap, you really dating the nerd?” Cass, one of our defensemen, asked as we got changed after practice. The lo
