BETRAYAL

Lyra’s POV 

I must have cried so much last night because I woke up this morning and I cannot recognize myself in front of the mirror. I don't recall much that happened after everyone angrily left me at what was supposed to be my special night. I recall dropping to the ground and bursting into tears. I remember Kael screaming at people and picking me up but how I got home remains blank in my memory. 

I sigh as I brush my teeth and have my bath. If anything, I need to know the next step. It’s understandable why Alpha Thorne is angry at me. He had waited years for me to shift and become the perfect Luna for Damon. It hurts me too. I want to be the best for Damon. I don't know why I can't shift into my wolf and it's very painful. 

Going into town or watching the news is scaring me because I know the horrible things that people will already be saying about me by now. I will have to avoid being out in public for a while. 

I force the thoughts aside with another sigh and begin to put on a casual outfit of simple free denim shorts on a loose top. After that I step out of my room. 

Knowing Damon, he should have been in my room after what happened and I'm surprised he hasn't showed up yet. He must be busy with Park duties. Being the Beta comes with responsibilities and Damon has been perfect at it so far. I can comfortably slack in some areas as the Omega of the Pack because Damon is like my cover and shield. The plan has always been for him to succeed his father as the Alpha and I become his Luna. What will happen now?

I sigh again and realise I'm already walking down the stairs. But then I noticed something. The maids are staring at me awkwardly and mumbling things to themselves. I call one of them and she reluctantly comes to meet me. 

“What's wrong? Why is everyone acting strange?”

“Oh, you just woke up from your beauty sleep. Well..”

“What?” I look at her, shocked at her audacity to speak to me in that manner. “What did you just say?” 

I may have missed yet another chance to shift but it didn't mean I won't get the respect I deserve.  

“No offence but you should hear Beta Damon's announcement,” she says. 

“What do you mean…Damon made an announcement?”

“I have to get back to work.” She turns around and begins to leave in a rude manner. I am in shock not just from the way the maid addressed me but what she said. Beta's announcement? 

As I am standing there still very much confused, Kael busts into the house and I run towards her. 

“Kael, thank goodness you are here. I have so many questions. How did I get home last night and what is this announcement I am hearing?”

She stops and looks at me. Her eyes are sad but she wouldn't say a word. 

“Lyra…” she mumbles and out of nowhere she pulls me into a hug. I groan knowing she is about to put me through another round of telling me I still have the chance to shift the next full moon. 

“Okay okay Kael I get it already. Something else is going on and I need to–”

I try to break free from the hug but she holds me tighter. “Just stay like this for a moment.”

My body relaxes back but my brain does not. Something is not right. “Kael talk to me… what is going on?”

“Let's go to your room first.” She finally pulls away. She drags me to my room and makes me sit on the bed. “Listen to me Lyra. Whatever happens you are still here and you should know there are a lot of people that love you.”

“Wait Kael you are scaring me. Tell me already, what is it?”

“I'm sorry, Lyra…Damon just announced his new mate and Luna to be.”

My heart sank. For a moment I search for the right words but it is only the deep ache in my heart that I feel. “What do you mean his new mate..I am his only–”

“This is not the end of the world, Lyra…you can still have your second chance mate.”

“Second chance? Wait..what are you talking about. No…that's not possible…Damon won't betray me. He won't hurt me.”

“So I thought.”

“It's not even one day yet! How can he betray me like this? Who is she? Who is this new mate of his?”

“Who else? Sasha.” Kael rolls her eyes. 

“Sasha?” I ask back in shock. Thing is, the Damon I know would never leave me for Sasha. 

“I am as shocked as you. He always claims to not fancy her one bit.”

“I need to see Damon.” I stand up. 

Kael stands in my way. “No Lyra, not now.”

“I must see him, Kael. This is all a joke or something. Until I hear from Damon himself, I am not believing any of this.”

“Calm down, Lyra…”

“No Kael, I'm sorry but I have to see Damon right now.”

I charge outside, slipping out of Kael’s hold. The moment I am outside my room I see her. Talk about the devil. She is coming up the stairs smiling and I could feel my fist curl up in anger. 

I march towards her. “What did you say to Damon…I am his only mate and not you!”

“Greetings first please… and before you go further, you should know I have important news,” she says, smirking. 

I clench my teeth holding back from grabbing her annoying curly hair and scratching her pretentious face until she becomes ugly. “Which is?

“Me and Damon are not just getting married but there's something bigger than that.”

I laugh. “Wow! Nice one. You think I will believe your crap? Huh?”

“It's your choice to believe me or not. But hey, should I let you in on a small secret?” 

I hiss and roll my eyes. The sound of her cry as I smash her mouth seems to me the perfect thing to hear than her secret which I know will be nothing more than lies. 

“I don't care about you and your little lies and I'm off to see Damon.”

I walk past her, giving her shoulder a little shove as I continue my way down the stairs. 

“I am pregnant.”

I hear her say and before my brain can fully process the words, my legs have come to a stop.
