The sound hit me first, tearing right through me.
That familiar low groan Kyle made when he was close, the one he used to whisper against my neck like I was the only girl in the world.
Now it was spilling out of him while he fucked some other girl on the bed very hard and fast while her legs wrapped tight around his waist like she belonged there.
I couldn’t breathe,
My hand stayed frozen on the doorknob, the silk dress I’d picked for him suddenly feeling cheap and stupid against my skin.
The girl’s moan cut through everything, high and needy, and Kyle didn’t even notice me at first, not until she gasped and froze underneath him.
“Kyle…. shit… ”
He jerked his head around, eyes wide. “Liana, baby, wait… this isn’t… fuck, let me explain …”
I didn’t scream, rather did I cry. I just closed the door quietly like shutting away the last good thing I thought I had. My bare feet carried me down the hallway, the marble cold and unforgiving under my soles. Everything inside my chest felt cracked open.
Nineteen years old and still getting thrown away like I was nothing.
Kyle had been my safe place for the past few months. He was the one person who made this whole mess—moving into a huge, unfamiliar mansion after Mom got married—feel a little easier to handle.
Now even that was gone.
Through my tears, the lights from the rooftop reception shimmered and blurred together.
I kept walking, not caring where I was going, the east wing was quieter, darker and private. My heart was beating so hard I could barely hear anything else.
The pain weighed heavily on me, spreading through my chest and stomach, combined with the champagne and the shame, it left me feeling like a stranger in my own skin.
I just wanted to hide or disappear for one damn minute.
My fingers found a door handle, then I pushed it open without thinking. Steam hit me first, warm, clean and masculine then I saw him.
Hermes Vitali.
Fresh out of the shower, towel hanging dangerously low on his hips, water still sliding down his broad back and shoulders. He turned slowly, and our eyes jammed together.
Oh God.
He was my mother’s husband now, forty-four. The kind of man who made the whole room feel smaller just by standing in it but right then, with his dark hair wet and his chest rising and falling, he looked raw, real and dangerous.
I should’ve said sorry, backed out or even run like hell.
But my feet couldn’t move, my eyes dropped before I could stop them tracing the water dripping over his chest down the hard lines of his stomach, disappearing under that towel.
Heat rushed up my neck, across my cheeks, straight down between my legs. My nipples tightened against the thin silk, obvious and embarrassing.
“Kyle had broken my heart in ways I hadn't thought possible, yet beneath the pain, something in me still felt alive."
Hermes didn’t cover up, he was just staring at me, jaw tight and one hand curled into a fist at his side like he was fighting not to step closer.
His eyes moved over me slowly, my flushed face, my trembling lips, the way my dress clung to my body. Something dark flickered in his eyes.
“You’re not supposed to be here, Liana,” he said, voice low and rough. It wrapped around my name like a secret.
“I… I thought this was the guest room,”
I whispered, my voice came out shaky and small, I could still hear Kyle’s sounds echoing in my head. I could still feel how easily he replaced me and now this man, this forbidden man who was looking at me like he saw every broken, needy piece.
My heart felt so strong,I could feel it in my throat,my wrists, and everywhere in between, where an aching warmth was building whether I wanted it or not.
Hermes took one step toward me and then another,he didn't touch me,he was just close enough that I could smell his skin, warm and clean.
Close enough to see the way his chest expanded with a slow breath, like he was trying to stay in control.
“You’ve been hurt tonight,” he murmured,it wasn't a question,it was just the fact.
Tears slipped down my cheek,I hadn't even realized I was crying.
“I should go.” I whispered but my feet didn't move either.
And he didn’t tell me to leave.
His eyes dropped to my mouth, then lower, lingering on my breasts, and the way I was breathing too fast.
When they came back up, the control in them looked cracked, like he was barely holding on.
“Go back to your room, princess.” The word princess felt soft, possessive and wrong at the same time.
My thighs pressed together on their own, trying to ease the growing throb.
This was insane,he was married to my mom, older and completely off-limits,but my body didn’t care.It wanted and ached, and wondered what those big hands would feel like.
The moment stretched, heavy and quiet, like neither of us knew how to break it, it was just us there, breathing the same tense air.
His hand twitched at his side, so small I almost missed it… like he was stopping himself from reaching for me.
Then Mom’s laugh floated down the hall light and clearly fake, the way it always was.
It pulled me right out of the moment.
I stumbled backward, heart hammering so hard I thought it might break through my ribs,I turned and ran, feet slapping against the cool marble, all the way back to my own room.
When I shut the door behind me, I slid down to the floor, knees up to my chest, trying to catch my breath.
My skin was on fire while shame burned hot in my stomach, but underneath was something else, something hungry, new and terrifying.
My phone kept buzzing on the bed,it was Kyle,I ignored it.
But I couldn’t ignore the way my mind kept replaying Hermes’s eyes on me, the way my name sounded in his mouth and how my body had answered him without permission.
This was bad,really, really bad.
And part of me, the lonely, hurting part that had been starving for years didn’t want to run from it at all.
LIANA'S POVI flinched the moment the door was pushed open.Even worse it was Dorie, who seemed to be Hermes' assistant from his company…I know too well kissing my 44yrs old stepfather wasn't the right thing to do but I did anyway…Dorie stood there the moment he saw us for a grudging second, I wasn't sure what his expression did but it didn't seem right at all. He was already halfway into an apology, eyes darted away from us like he could unsee what he'd just walked in on. "Sir, I'm so sorry, I'll come back…""Get in," Hermes said, not even breaking from settling me into the passenger seat, buckling my belt himself before shutting the door.Hermes seemed unbothered by Dorie's presence, I mean he was just caught with me and him…doing something very outrageous.Wasn't he scared of scandals?Wasn't he scared of the law?My heart raced so hard that I feared it would rush out the next second while Hermes looked so chilled like he controlled the air we breathed. He immediately started the
HERMES' POV I had never had to explain myself to anyone in my life, yet here I was, expected to explain something to my stepdaughter that I wasn't even sure I could explain. I froze for half a second, just long enough that I knew she'd noticed. There was no version of the truth I could give her right now, that the cameras were mine, that Celeste had installed one facing my direction too, that I'd been watching that house for reasons that had nothing to do with her, long before she'd ever become the reason for anything. I had also installed several cameras in Celeste's room, and I had just risked months of investigation to solve this one case. Marco's death…her father's death…my best friend's death…didn't seem ordinary and that was the reason I had installed a hidden camera in her room. It sounded more cruel to admit. The police looked at me, then at her, then back at me, waiting. I said nothing. Just reached over and smoothed her hair back from her face, hoping the gesture wo
LIANA'S POV“Welcome Mr Hermes…”They all bowed simultaneously…I stood up immediately, the handcuffs now secured in front of me after I complained that keeping my hands cuffed behind my back was causing me pain.I ran up to Hermes with tears in my eyes and threw myself into him before I even realised I was moving, my hands on his head as I pressed my body against him, inhaling his unique scent. He'd come straight from wherever he'd been, dark coat still creased from travel, his jaw shadowed, exhaustion carved into the lines around his eyes, but none of that mattered. He was here. Tall, solid, achingly familiar, and I buried my face against his chest and just breathed him in, that same scent that had always meant safety long before it meant anything else."I didn't do it," I choked out against him. "Hermes, I swear, I didn't touch her, I would never…""I know." His arms came around me, one hand pressing flat against the back of my head, holding me there. "I know, princess. I already
LIANA'S POVMy hands wouldn't stop shaking….I didn't push madam iris, my brain has begun to convince me, even create scenarios of me actually pushing her.I could hear my heart beating so loud and it scared me.I really didn't, I really didn't push her.I called Kyle back three times, four, my breath coming faster each time the line just rang out and dropped to voicemail.Falling to the ground and hitting my butt on the floor, I felt my head spinning. My legs had already turned to jelly as the image of Iris lying in a pool of blood flashed through my mind.I was scared…I was really scared.I quickly got to my feet, wiped the tears from my eyes, and gripped my phone tightly. My legs felt weak, forcing me to lean against the wall for support as I made my way forward. Finally got there, I noticed Kayla was now calm…her legs hitting against the floor at perfect frequency. She was probably scared and full of anxiety right now.I sat quietly a short distance from her. I really wished I cou
LIANA'S POVAfter calling 911 I was more grateful they took the emergency as quickly as it was in just five minutes. The ambulance lights strobed across the driveway before I'd even finished giving the operator our address.I sat in the back beside the paramedics, Iris's hand still in mine, blood dried into the creases of my fingers, praying under my breath the entire ride, praying to a God I wasn't sure was listening.I noticed how Iris's chest was rising and falling, not obvious but little… that… that gave me a little hope, a little hope that nothing was going to happen to her and she was going to be fine.At the hospital they wheeled her straight into the emergency wing, and a nurse pulled me aside almost immediately with a clipboard, asking me to sign her in."I can't." My voice cracked. "I'm not family. She's….. she works for us. She's our housekeeper."I said nervously, I didn't even know her last name, just Madam Iris. The nurse's expression flickered, but she nodded, already m
LIANA'S POVMy heart beat so hard against my rib that I feared it would jump out."Give it back." I reached for the diary, but Kyle suddenly stood up and held it up out of reach, that same smug look plastered across his face."Or what?" He tossed it onto the bed behind him without even looking at it anymore. His eyes were on me instead, on the towel, and something about the way he looked at me made my stomach turn. "You know, for someone who's supposedly with her stepdad, you're still really jumpy around me…what are you doing rubbing your boobs on my chest…" "Get out of my room, Kyle."I snapped, pulling away from him before slipping my diary back into the cabinet."You were basically begging for it earlier. That kiss." He stood, stepping closer. "Don't act like you didn't miss me.""I didn't." I backed toward the door, but he moved faster, grabbing my wrist."Come back to me, Liana. We were good together before you started…""Let go of me." I fought to pull my arm free, but his gri
My body was still buzzing hours later, but my mind wouldn’t shut up.I lay in bed staring at the ceiling, thighs sticky again even after I’d cleaned up. Every time I closed my eyes I felt Hermes’s fingers inside me, heard his voice growling “this greedy little cunt is mine.” The guilt was eating me
I woke up the next morning with my panties still sticky from the night before. My body remembered every single second my stepdad's fingers sliding through my wet pussy, the way he called me princess while he rubbed my clit until I came all over his hand. The guilt should’ve eaten me alive. Instead
The rest of the day dragged like it was trying to punish me.I stayed locked in my studio for hours, pretending to paint,my canvas stayed blank.Every time I tried to focus, my mind dragged me right back to breakfast,my stepdad knee pressed against mine under the table, his voice saying “princess”
I barely slept.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Hermes Vitali “My StepDaddy”. That towel barely hanging on his hips, water sliding down his body like it was teasing me and the way his dark eyes had dragged over my tits, slow and hungry, like he was imagining what they’d feel like in his hands.
