Chapter 12

Roman walks out of his office and overhears his uncle screaming at his phone in the hallway. He pauses and turns to look at him.

“What do you mean she ran away? She’s been gone for a whole damn week and you didn’t tell me you damn bastard. Get her back here this instant. We’re set to marry in a week!”

Roman chuckles shaking his walks past his uncle to his wife’s bedroom. Rosalie has been distancing herself from him he wanted to know why.

He was set to travel to America soon he wanted to make sure his wife was going with him. Rosalie hasn’t been out of their city, he thought the woman would like a change of scenery.

His phone rang as he was nearing her room.

“Hello?”

“Roman can you come over please?”

Roman rolls his eyes at the sound of Serena’s voice. “What do you want Selena?” he asks.

“I want to speak to you about something I can’t talk to you about over the phone.” She says.

“I don’t have time for your shit today...”

“No, it’s nothing like that...” she says.

“Fine I’ll be there in a sec...” he says before hanging up.

The cotton sheets, where Roman slept last night cool against her skin, it meant he’d left long before she woke. Rosalie comforted herself with the fact that they weren’t that type of married couple. He’d been trying for weeks now to get her attention. He thought sleeping in her room would help his case. It wasn’t. She didn’t trust him.

She knew too much about Roman to trust him, she knew he was looking at her because he thought she knew who Nightshade was.

Elena told him, Nightshade had a soft spot for her and he was trying to fish for information. Too bad for him Rosalie wouldn’t say a word even if he gave her she’d been longing for.

Roman’s absence had been unsettling, a silence that spoke volumes.  He had not been physically present, yet his influence permeated every corner of the room, every meticulously placed object a testament to his controlling nature.

He would check on every corner of the room making sure she didn’t do anything he didn’t approve of. Her renovations had gone through him. It was a good thing he didn’t notice she’d built a lab in the next room, hidden behind a bookshelf. Her contractor took everything she wanted into account and created a separate blueprint for her nosy husband.

It was as if her husband thought of her as Nightshade, the way he suspected her and checked on her constantly.

She knew Ari wouldn’t betray her. Elena feared her death, it was the only reason she never spoke up about her identity. Her parents worried for their reputation if anyone found out what she could do.

They might use them to come after her. And they weren’t up to become leverage.

If Roman knew of her identity, what would he do to her?

A faint tremor ran through her. Did she fear what Roman would do to her?

Did she really?

The realization settled deep within her, a bitter taste that lingered long after the initial shock subsided. She didn’t like fear. She didn’t want to feel it.

Rosalie contacted her new friend. Charlotte Romano. She contacted her telling her about Roman’s uncle.

Oh she couldn’t wait to deal with the bastard. She invited Charlotte and her husband to dinner the next night, they were going to flaunt her marriage in his face, before Charlotte hacked into his devices and send him a threat while she placed poison in his food. Nothing fatal. Only a warning.

She was going to deal with him over time. Someone like Salvatore needed to lose everything before he would listen. She knew his type.

She was going to enjoy the game. Charlotte and her were taking bets on how he’d fall. How long it would take him to give up.

She never imagined making a friend who thought the same way she did. To be honest she didn’t think she’d ever make any friends and she was fine with that. But Charlotte had made her mundane life so much brighter. She loved talking to her.

Rosalie got up and got ready for the day. She walked over to the stairs when she heard a noise coming from Roman’s room.

Is he still here?

She pushes the door open and is shocked by what she found.

Three naked laid on his bed.

“You seem to be in the wrong room... No wrong house...” Rosalie narrows her eyes at them.

She did the unexpected by helping the three women into clothes. She got them downstairs and gave them each a plate of food.

While they were eating she called Ari.

Rosalie waited until the the girls were knocked out. They were all slumped out on the table.

She ordered a new bed for Roman and got someone to clean his room while Ari took the girls and left the mansion.

Roman returned as the commotion in his bedroom was going on.

“What’s going on?” He asked as his bed was being thrown out.

"There were prostitutes in your bed..." she replied, meeting his gaze without flinching.

He studied her, his expression unreadable. “You know it wasn’t me right?” he asks.

“Of course I know that. You slept next to me...” she told him.

He nods. “What happened to the girls?” he asks.

Something unreadable flashes across Rosalie’s face. She glares at the distance. “They’ve been taken care of... They won’t be back. By the way I invited a friend of mine and her husband to dinner tomorrow. Night. Be sure to invite your uncle...” she smiles.

He watches her interest. “My uncle? Rosalie you’re not planning to anger the man to death are you?” he asks.

She let’s out an innocent giggle. “Of course not. That’s childish. Though I should warn you, you’re in for a good show...” she says before walking away.

Roman shakes his head and walks into his room. He watches them disinfect his cabinets and chairs.

He chuckles before walking out and down to his office.

After getting to Serena’s house, she kept speaking about how much she missed him and wanted to try meeting other men, but no one would come close to him.

Seeing the way Rosalie reacted, she set it up.

Serena could thank her lucky stars he liked the way Rosalie reacted. He found humour in it. Or she would be dead.

He got done on some of the work he needed to catch up on before his trip.

He didn’t even get to speak to Rosalie about it.

What he was looking forward to was the next night to see exactly what his wife had planned.

  • Poison Vows   Chapter 22

Chapter 22Charlotte spent the last few days meticulously observing Ezra, Volkan’s supposed wife, a woman who radiated an unsettling aura of fragility and controlled fury. She couldn't control her anger when it came to this woman either. She wasn't sure if she was angry for her or with her. Ezra’s story, of a love-struck naive girl, swept off her feet by a charismatic mafia boss, was riddled with inconsistencies, tiny cracks in the carefully constructed façade. It started with a seemingly insignificant detail: a faint, almost imperceptible smudge of dried blood on the collar of Ezra's silk blouse during their first meeting. Blood that didn't match Ezra's own type, a fact Charlotte had discreetly confirmed through a sample obtained during a seemingly accidental brush of her hand against Ezra's arm. Then there were the inconsistencies in Ezra’s side of the story. The dates of her supposed relationship with Volkan, didn’t align with Volkan’s known whereabouts during that time. Photogra

She’d never seen him so out of his element. He turns and sees her, he frowns at her smile, but pulls her to him, he helps her out of the shirt she was wearing. He picks her up off the floor and gently drops her into the tub, he takes off his own shirt and sits behind her in the bath.“I’ve never had a warm bath before. It’s oddly soothing. Is this why women love baths?” he asks.Charlotte scoffs. “Baths are nice yes, but baths are dangerous because you could fall asleep in it...” she comments. This bath was feeling more romantic than sexy like he’d mentioned before. She was seeing a softer side of her husband. She couldn’t figure out if it was her who brought it out in him or if he had always been like this. Before they got married Alessandro
