LOGIN“I don’t like this plan.”
“Too bad,” Obsidian muttered from his spot on the couch. “It’s the only one we have.”
I glared at him as I tugged on the hem of the jacket. “I’m sure—”
“Silence, Ezra,” he growled.
I hissed at him, but obeyed his command for about two seconds. “I don’t understand why you’re doing this. You’ve never gone to these things before. Y—”
A vicious snarl from Obsidian cut off my words. “I’m doing this because you don’t have the skills needed to catch the bastard who’s threatening our—”
“Like you actually give a damn.”
“—mate and Devrim. He could…” Obsidian’s eyes widened and his mouth dropped open. I turned, curious to find out what had gotten that reaction out of him.
I wasn’t expecting it to be Devrim.
Devrim took the last two steps and paused by the couch. He wasn’t paying any attention to us because he was busy fidgeting with his shirt.
“I never expected you to look so good in a tuxedo,” Obsidian rasped.
He is attracted to another male?
Devrim raised his head and smiled at him. “Wish I could say the same about you, but you haven’t dressed yet.”
Obsidian smirked. “You could always help me.”
I pulled a face which unfortunately both men caught.
“You have a problem, Ezra?”
“Yes, I do.” My eyes darted between them. “You’re both males. How could you be attracted to each other?”
Obsidian growled and Devrim flinched like I had struck him. I tensed when Obsidian stood and took a step towards me.
“Not now,” Devrim muttered. “We need to go over the plans for tonight.”
Muttering under his breath, Obsidian took a seat again, but not before pulling one of his knives from its hiding place in his clothes. The look he was sending my way made me move as far away from him as I could, which wasn’t that far.
“Orion will be close by in case we need him, along with a few other pride members we can trust,” Devrim said. “I’ve asked Dorian to keep a close eye on everybody leaving and entering.”
“Reeves agreed to have Dorian work as a guard?” I asked.
“He doesn’t know. He’s a suspect; therefore, I haven’t informed him of all our plans.” Devrim tugged on the collar of his shirt. “We agreed that there would be only one entrance and exit, though. He didn’t question me about it.”
“Good.”
“We know that he will be there,” Devrim continued. “So we need to be extra careful.”
“I still don’t think that this is a good idea.”
“It’s still not up to you.” Obsidian glared at me. “Sometimes you’re just as pathetic as those damn humans.”
“Well, I’m sorry. Not everybody’s an emotionless, paranoid bastard like you.”
I gasped when he threw the knife. It skimmed my ear as it flew past my head and lodged itself into the wall behind me. My eyes shot back to him, wide with shock.
He smirked. “Next time, I won’t miss.”
My hands twitched at my sides. I fought the urge to tackle him. As if reading my mind, Devrim stepped in front of me.
“Not tonight,” he growled. “This ball is important. Let’s not fuck this up.”
“You’re like a ball of putty in her hands,” Obsidian said.
I frowned at him. “What does that mean?”
“Wow! A human saying Ezra hadn’t heard before.”
I took a step towards him, but Devrim pressed a hand to my chest. I instantly took a step back, not wanting him to touch me. Hurt flashed through his eyes.
Clearing his throat, he walked over to the couch and picked up the tie Vanya said we needed to wear.
“I don’t know how to tie this thing,” Devrim sighed as he held it up in the air.
Obsidian’s eyes locked with mine as he spoke, “I know how. Let me do it.”
Devrim hesitated. Without looking at me, he walked over to him and handed him the tie.
“Kneel.”
My mouth dropped open when Devrim actually followed Obsidian’s order. He dropped to his knees between Obsidian’s spread legs without any hesitation.
I looked away from them and towards the stairs. Shouldn’t Vanya have been dressed by now? Why was she taking so long?
Against my will, my eyes darted back to them. Obsidian was folding the tie around Devrim’s neck. When he was done, he fixed the collar of Devrim’s shirt and glanced over at me.
I knew he was doing it out of spite.
Obsidian cupped Devrim’s face, tilted it backwards and kissed him all while keeping his eyes locked with mine.
I turned away, making a sound of disgust at the back of my throat.
“Obsidian!”
The last thing I expected was for him to tackle me. I gasped when I hit the ground and he came down on top of me. I struggled to get him off, but fighting in human form has never been a strong point of mine.
Before he could do anything to hurt me, a sound reached our ears. Our heads snapped in that direction.
Vanya stood where Devrim had stood only moments before. The black dress she wore made her pale skin stand out. The thin straps held the long dress; there was a slit on one side that ended mid-thigh, showing off a good expanse of her toned leg. She had a thin belt around her waist, right beneath her breasts that made them appear bigger. The dress wasn’t tight and the material was thin, which made it clear that she wasn’t wearing a bra.
“Why aren’t you dressed yet, Obsidian?” she questioned. “The car’s already waiting for us.”
“You look—” Devrim started.
“Fuckable,” Obsidian interrupted.
“Beautiful,” I finished.
Vanya’s face flooded with colour. She lowered her head and soothed shaky hands down her dress. “T-thank you.”
I pushed at Obsidian’s chest. He hissed at me, but got up. Devrim stepped forward and held out his hand, which I ignored as I got to my feet.
“Obsidian was just going to get dressed,” Devrim muttered. “Right?”
“Can’t believe I’m going to wear a fucking monkey suit.”
“It was your idea,” I told him with a bite of sarcasm. “Follow through with it.”
“Will the two of you just fucking knock it off?!” Devrim snapped.
It looked like Obsidian wanted to say more, but with a glare in my direction, he headed to his basement.
“Don’t fuck this up, Ezra. We don’t need your childish behaviour tonight.”
“Childish?” I growled. “What about your pathetic behaviour?”
Vanya stepped between us with her brows dipped into a frown. “What’s the problem?”
“He—”
“Nothing,” Devrim interrupted, sending me a pointed look.
“Nothing? You—”
“Can we just get through this night without arguing or fighting, please?” Vanya pleaded.
“We will,” Devrim muttered, glaring at me. “We’ll be on our best behaviour tonight, rosebud.”
He is defenceless. I could easily hurt him. To be honest, I had considered it, but then Devrim’s words flashed through my mind and pulled me out of my disturbing thoughts.Devrim had been right. But it didn’t make me fear Obsidian less.I sat in the chair a few feet from the bed, staring at the door as I waited for Devrim to return. Every passing second that he was away made my mind race with things that could go wrong.Darkness was creeping in on me, and I had no idea how to handle it.A whimper from the bed made my eyes snap over to it.Obsidian was on his stomach, clutching the pillow beneath his head as his big body trembled. The whimpers changed into growls that made my skin break out in goosebumps. The room suddenly fell silent again, but it didn’t last long.Rolling onto his back, Obsidian clutched at the sheets as his whimpers started up again. It got louder and louder.Tears filled my eyes.It sounded like he was in pain. What am I supposed to do? My eyes darted over to the
I think I’m going to pass out. After everything that had happened, I never thought that I would be returning to the cabin. My steps faltered when we reached the front door. Oblivious to my hesitation, Devrim opened the door and entered. As he turned to close it, his eyes locked on me. “Vanya?”When he told me that Obsidian was sick, the concern I felt had me agreeing to go with him, but standing outside the house made me second guess myself.I was about to face the man who had attacked me, the man who haunted my dreams, and not in a good way.Swallowing, I took a step forward, but my muscles tensed, preventing me from moving.“What’s wrong?” Devrim asked as he walked over to me. “You’ve gone pale.”“I…” My words trailed off when movement behind him caught my attention. My knees weakened when a wave of fear hit me. I wasn’t ready to see him yet!Panic hit next.If Devrim hadn’t grabbed hold of my arms, I would have run away.“Rosebud—”“I don’t want to see him,” I blurted.“Please, Va
What are monsters? The imaginary creatures we were sure hid under our beds? Were they the creatures that the authors and filmmakers created? Maybe the stories told to scare us were monsters in their own way? Or maybe the adults who told us those stories were the real monsters?A monster was cruel and evil.A monster was someone who found joy in hurting others. Like those men who hid in the shadows, waiting for a woman or man to come along. A monster was someone who killed without a second thought.I sniffed and reached up to wipe the tears from my cheeks. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the group of kids in the alley below me. I had spotted them the moment they entered. One of them had pulled out a knife and was busy dissecting a dead animal. Are they monsters? The moment the kid had pulled out the knife, I had thought of Obsidian, and then my mind had trailed to Devrim and Ezra.I hadn’t seen them in weeks. As soon as the doctor had given me a clean bil
“Get the fuck out!” Ezra sneered.I ignored him and made my way over to the bed, but he stepped in front of me and flashed his teeth. I growled at him, but he didn’t even flinch. My eyes narrowed and my fists clenched at my sides.“You’re not allowed in here,” he hissed.“I’m here to talk to Vanya,” I told him.He growled. “She doesn’t want to talk to you.”My eyes shot over his shoulder to her. Her head was bent, her hands clutching at the sheet. I sucked in a deep breath and closed my eyes. The sweet smell of her fear filled the room. She’s scared of me. “Vanya?”Her body jerked as if I’d struck her. Slowly, she raised her head, but she couldn’t look me in the eyes. Her eyes briefly glanced in my direction, then instantly lowered again. What little colour she had in her cheeks when I arrived was now gone.“Get out,” Ezra growled. “She doesn’t want to talk to you.”My eyes snap back to his. “I’m talking to her and not to you.”“She doesn’t want to fucking talk to you! What made you
There was no annoying beeping filling my ears. No machines attached to every possible inch of my body. Everything was silent which made me feel like I was alone, but I knew I wasn’t, because I could feel the comforting weight of another hand on mine.I wasn’t dead.I wasn’t alone. But I was in pain. The constant throbbing of my shoulder and the feeling of fire ants crawling all over my body was pulling me from my sleep.I didn’t want to wake up, because in my dreams, everything was okay. In my dreams, Obsidian was smiling at me, and Ezra had accepted the fact that Obsidian and Devrim loved each other. In my dreams, everything was perfect. But dreams only lasted so long before reality started creeping in and everything crumbled and the real world showed its ugly face.A soft sigh reached my ears, followed by the sound of a chair creaking. The weight on my hand disappeared, making emptiness fill me.I had fucked up and now I was all alone.“I know you’re awake, sugarplum.”I hesitated
It was all part of his plan.If Vanya died, I would be blamed for it. They’d kill me and every other pride member on the island. The humans would be turned against us by Reeves, because he was powerful enough to accomplish that.I knew he had been watching us. I knew he had seen me attacking Vanya.Small cameras had been set up in the corners. The entrance and exit had also been revealed numerous times when he entered and left. The gas he had used to knock me out in order to move me was something they had used in the facility. What was really worrying was the fact that he somehow got hold of the gas in the first place and that he knew so much about me.My eyes darted to one of the small vents I had seen hidden slightly from the human eye. It was how he was planning on knocking me out again.I was just waiting for the right time to strike. I paced back and forth next to Vanya’s unconscious body. Stopping, I licked at the deep wounds on her upper arms. A shudder raced through my body an
