LOGIN"Get up, orphan," the lead instructor growls, kicking dirt straight onto my bruised shins. "The Rogue King doesn't feed useless mouths!"
I wipe the sweat and blood from my mouth, my limbs trembling like dry leaves in a winter storm. The harsh gravel of the training yard burns against my bare palms, but I force my body to push up. Three other rogue warriors stand around the ring, laughing as I stagger to my feet. My wolf whimpers in the back of my head, completely exhausted, while my stomach twists with a sudden wave of sharp morning sickness.
"Again!" the instructor shouts, swinging his wooden staff straight at my ribs.
I try to duck, but my legs give out beneath me. The world spins, turning completely pitch black around the edges as my knees hit the dirt.
Before my face can smash into the hard ground, a pair of massive, rock-hard arms catch me mid-air.
Lancelot holds me against his massive chest. He has been standing on the wooden platform watching from the side the entire time, his arms crossed over his chest, his golden eyes cold and unreadable. He moved faster than my eyes could even track, blurring across the yard to catch my collapsing body.
The moment his bare skin touches mine through my ripped shirt, a violent jolt of electricity shoots straight up my spine. His entire frame goes rigid as iron.
He freezes, holding me lifted against his ribs. His nostrils flare as he buries his face directly into the curved nook of my neck, inhaling deep and hard, pulling my scent deep into his lungs. The air around us suddenly grows deathly cold, dropping several degrees in a single second. His golden eyes flash with a terrifying, ancient fire.
He lowers his lips right against my ear. His voice is dangerously soft, vibrating with a dark, lethal rage that makes every single warrior in the yard stop breathing.
"Whose pup is growing in my mate?" Lancelot demands.
My heart hammers against my ribs like a trapped beast. I don't cringe. I don't shrink away from his terrifying grip. I force my eyes open, looking straight into his glowing golden gaze, and weaponize the bitter truth like a jagged blade.
"Lucas's," I say, my raw voice cutting through the silent yard. "The Alpha who tried to burn me alive. Is that what you wanted to know, King?"
Lancelot's jaw clenches so hard I hear the bone snap. His grip on my waist tightens until it borders on painful, but he doesn't drop me. He doesn't scream or strike me.
Instead, he turns his head toward the silent crowd of warriors and growls a single, terrifying order.
"Fetch the healer," Lancelot barks, his voice echoing across the stone walls of the fortress. "Now."
Two guards scramble toward the main keep, terrified to displease their King. Lancelot turns without a word, scooping me up fully into his broad arms, carrying my broken body back through the heavy iron gates and up the winding stone stairs to his private quarters.
He slams the thick oak door with his boot and sets me down on the edge of his massive, furs-covered bed. He doesn't move away. He steps back just two inches, towering over me, his golden eyes locked onto my face like a hawk watching its prey.
The heavy iron door swings open three minutes later. An elderly woman with silver hair and a leather bag of herbs rushes into the room, gasping for breath.
"My Lord!" the healer, Rebecca, stammers, dropping to her knees before stepping toward the bed. "What happened? Is she hurt?"
"Examine her," Lancelot commands, stepping back to stand at the foot of the bed with his arms crossed over his chest. "Tell me how far along she is. Tell me if the child is healthy."
"My Lord, perhaps you should wait in the hallway—" Rebecca begins nervously, unpacking a silver crystal attached to a long leather string.
"I am not leaving this room," Lancelot interrupts, his lethal voice cutting her off instantly. "Do your work."
Rebecca flinches, then quickly turns to me. She places her palm against my lower belly, laying the silver crystal flat over my skin. The crystal glows a pale, soft blue, vibrating gently against my warm skin as it reads the life force pulsing inside me.
"She is three weeks along, Alpha," Rebecca whispers, looking up at Lancelot with wide, trembling eyes. "The pup's heartbeat is faint... dangerously faint. The silver burns and the stress from the execution square have weakened her womb."
Lancelot doesn't flinch. He steps forward, his shadow swallowing the bed completely as he looks down at my stomach.
"Fix it," Lancelot orders softly.
"I need special moon-flower herbs from the high cliffs to bind the pregnancy, Alpha," Rebecca says, pulling a small wooden box from her bag and setting it on the bedside table. She opens the latch, revealing a single black iron needle and a small glass vial filled with dark red liquid. "And I need to run a blood test right now to confirm the father's bloodline before I can brew the tonic."
Lancelot reaches out, his large hand taking the glass vial from the box. He turns it in his fingers, his eyes never leaving mine.
"You don't need a test," Lancelot says, his low voice dripping with absolute possession as he looks straight at me. "The pup inside her carries Alpha blood, but as of today, the Silver Moon has no claim to it."
Rebecca gasps, taking a step back in pure shock. "My Lord... what are you saying?"
Lancelot leans down, pressing his large palm flat against my lower belly, right over my bare skin. The heat of his hand burns through me, making my breath catch in my throat.
"I am claiming the child as my own heir," Lancelot says coldly, his golden eyes burning into mine. "And if Lucas comes to take it back, I will cut his head off and feed it to his own pack."
“Sit on the edge of the bed and do not move,” Lancelot says, his voice thick with a low, possessive rumble that vibrates straight down my spine.I sit on the high mattress of his private chambers while he kicks the heavy oak door shut behind us, slamming the double iron deadbolts into place. The air in the room is heavy, suffocating, and dripping with his dominant, protective Alpha scent.Lancelot grabs a warm, wet cloth from the marble basin, drops to his knees right between my thighs, and reaches for the hem of my shirt.“I can clean my own cut, Lancelot,” I say, my hand hovering over his wrist. My stomach tenses as his cold, calloused fingers brush directly against my bare waist.“You are not touching this,” he growls, looking up at me through his dark lashes, his crimson eyes burning with unhinged hunger and fear. “I watched a silver blade graze your belly, Cecelia. I almost lost my fucking mind. Let me touch you.”He wipes the dried crimson blood from my waist with agonizing slow
“Get down!” I yell, shoving my personal guard back into the corridor as the heavy oak doors of the safe house explode into a hundred sharp wooden splinters. The iron scent of rogue blood and fresh silver smoke fills my throat, making my inner wolf snarl with sudden, defensive rage.Four massive rogue enforcers crash through the shattered entry, their eyes glowing sickly yellow with toxic dark magic potions. They do not hold chains or ropes. They carry heavy silver blades designed specifically to cut through royal wolf flesh.“Kill her!” the lead attacker roars, pointing a jagged silver dagger directly at my face. “Peterson wants her dead! Leave the body, bring her head and the unborn pup’s heart!”My stomach churns with sudden nausea at his words, but I do not step back. I do not run.My guard moves forward to shield me, but the lead attacker swings a heavy iron mace, hitting my guard square in the chest with a sickening crunch of bone that throws him across the stone room.I stand al
“Play it again,” I say, my voice echoing off the high stone walls of the regional Alpha summit chamber.Fifty pack leaders stare at me in dead silence. The heavy projector screen at the front of the grand hall hums with static before the audio cuts back in, raw and unedited.“The fetus carries the core life force,” Amanda’s voice spills out of the speakers, high, sweet, and entirely toxic. “If we drain the soul-bond during the execution ceremony, Cecelia dies, the baby dies, and the energy transfers directly into my broken core. I will become the True Luna. Lucas will never know the difference.”I stand in the center aisle, my black dress sweeping the marble floor, my posture straight as a blade. I do not look at the crowd. I keep my eyes locked on the head table where Lucas sits.Lucas looks like he has been stabbed through the chest with a silver stake. His eyes are wide, bloodshot, and completely fixed on Amanda, who sits right beside him in her white Luna silk dress.“That is a fo
"Get out of my sight before I rip your spine out!" Lucas roars, slamming his fist onto the mahogany desk in the center of the main den.The mahogany splits down the center with a loud crack, wood splinters flying across the rug. The young pack warrior flinches, bowing his head in pure terror as he scrambles backward out of the doorway.Lucas doesn't even look up as the door slams shut. He reaches with a trembling, blood-stained hand for the crystal decanter sitting on the edge of the fractured desk, pouring another glass of strong silver-whiskey.His eyes are bloodshot, hollowed out by days of sleeplessness and sheer, unadulterated madness. Sitting right beside his glass is the single black rose I left behind three weeks ago, its petals dried and crisp, yet he refuses to let anyone touch it."Lucas, please, you have to drink something else," Amanda begs, stepping into the room with a porcelain cup of tea, her voice tight with panic. "The Elders are whispering in the courtyard. They sa
"Cut every trade route leading into Silver Fang territory by midnight," I command, slamming my palm flat onto the brass war map.The heavy table rattles under the force of my hand, sending wooden pack markers scattering across the painted rivers and mountain passes. Lancelot steps up behind me, his broad chest pressing flush against my back, his scorching heat sinking through the fabric of my tunic."No merchant wagons go in," Lancelot growls into the side of my neck, his rough fingers tracing the curve of my hip. "No grain, no weapons, no silver.""Not a single grain of wheat," I say, my inner wolf snarling with pure, unadulterated vengeance. "Isolate them completely."Lancelot doesn't hesitate for a single second. He raises his right hand, making a swift, ruthless cutting gesture to his chief commander standing by the arched stone door."Execute the Luna's orders immediately," Lancelot barks, his Alpha tone vibrating through the stone floor beneath our feet. "Send the riders to the
"The coven tome is complete," Elder Mandolin announces, dropping a heavy, leather-bound book wrapped in scorched iron chains onto the stone table of the war room.I stand over the ancient pages, my breath catching as my eyes trace the dark, forbidden runes drawn across the yellowed parchment.Mandolin's final piece of evidence proves what I already feared in my bones. Amanda's so-called sacred "blessing" from the Moon Goddess was never real.It was a soul-bond theft ritual designed to siphon the pure life force and royal bloodline of my unborn child directly into Amanda's body, granting her false Luna powers and eternal fertility. Amanda did not just want me disgraced or exiled or dead—she wanted to become a mother by stealing my motherhood, erasing my flesh and blood to cement her own stolen throne. The realization hits my chest harder than any physical wound, a cold, sickening horror that turns my stomach inside out."She wanted to wear my child like a stolen cloak," I whisper, my f
