CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR – LEDA

“I’m sorry.” I tell him.

I don’t know what to tell him.

How do I tell him he’s breaking down all my walls and I do not appreciate it?

I don’t appreciate how hard it is to look at him and not want to run my fingers through those golden locks...

I glance up from the floor and it’s only then I realise that ‘sorry’ wasn’t the right thing to say.

“I’m sorry” I repeat, to get his attention off the floor. “I just – I seem to have forgotten what words are.” I offer him a small smile and I swear I see his whole body jerk in response; like I’ve just brought him back to life.

I shake my head and sigh.

“Gods be damned Rasmus! What am I supposed to say to that?! I don’t want to forgive you just yet! Stop making it so damn hard!”

He laughs.

Not a happy laugh.

A desperate laugh. A shocked laugh. A relieved laugh. All rolled into one.

“Leda, I-”

“Rasmus.” I interrupt him.

“I-” I shake my head, hoping it’ll somehow order my thoughts.

“I’m not ready to forgive you
