ELENA'S POV

I stayed in front of the mirror longer than I should have. The face I saw was completely different from the one I remembered. Not just the face but everything else had changed. The breasts I had before were small and perky but the ones I had now were heavy and full.

My hair was no longer dark but brown and short. My eyes were now a lighter shade of brown; almost red.

Everything about my physical appearance was different but I was the same girl I had once been.

I touched my chest remembering how Alpha Rowland had stabbed me through my heart. There was nothing there now but it felt like I could feel the pain still fresh.

I was going to make sure I carried out my revenge even if was the last thing I did. Death had tried to stop me once and failed. I wouldn't let it happen a second time.

A woman was crouching not far from where I stood. Her breath came out in ragged gasps. She looked like she was going to fall over. I moved to her to assist her but she held out a hand to stop me.

“Drink that.” She pointed to a bowl on the table just by the mirror.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to drink a strange purple fluid from a bowl especially since a strange lady had pointed it out to me urging me to drink from it.

She noticed my hesitation. “You want to know what’s happening right?”

I nodded. I wanted to know how I was alive and why I looked different. It felt like a strange dream to me that I had woken up to but how was it possible for a person to wake up to a dream?

“Then drink up. It will become clear when you do.”

I took the bowl in my hands and sniffed the liquid. My eyes burned from the sting of whatever was inside the bowl. I coughed and almost threw up but I drank the liquid. Immediately I did so, my eyes glowed a pale white and I saw everything.

Freya’s life played before me like a movie except I was with her there like a spectator till the last days of her life. She had missed her sister, Flora, so much and she hated how there was nothing she could do about it.

Josh, Alpha Rowland’s Beta had taken advantage of Flora and he had killed her afterward treating her like she was nothing but an insignificant piece of trash. Freya couldn’t do anything because they were restricted

from using their powers against the Alpha and his inner circle.

After Freya’s death, the memory continued playing but this time it was that of another woman. The woman had been with the other woman who had just asked her to drink from the cup. She stood without saying a thing in the smelly place because she was mourning the loss of her daughters. Freya’s mother!

Freya’s mother had an idea and told the other woman to buy what they had come from. She left the smelly place to get Freya’s body from the room where it lay. Freya still looked beautiful even in death. It was the same face I had seen in the mirror when I looked into it some minutes ago.

Freya’s mother entered a dark lair. She drew some signs on her wrist and then cut her palm with a small knife. She moved to a body and did the same thing. I moved closer to the body. There was something familiar about it. It was my body! I gasped as I saw my dead body. The rest of the memory played until Freya’s mother had made the woman promise she I would make sure I took vengeance on her daughter for her.

The memories faded away like a mist and the woman was standing upright once again. It had taken her energy to complete the spell. I understood that now.

“Thanks,” I said. It was all I could say.

She bit her lip. “Don’t thank me. Just do what she asked for.”

I nodded. I was going to do right by the woman who had sacrificed herself to make sure I get a second chance.

“You’re a half werewolf and half witch now. You are the only one capable of stopping them from bringing heartbreak to more mothers.”

I could feel a strange energy moving through me. it was something, unlike anything I’d ever felt.

“I’ll teach you how to master it. You couldn’t ask for a better teacher.”

I stayed hidden with her for a month. We used that time to train and I mastered almost all the skills she taught me faster than she had anticipated. She taught me more than I needed to get my revenge and I was glad for her help so far.

She told me that I was ready and sent me on my way. That night, I used all she had thought me to Astra-project myself into the palace. I entered Alpha Rowland’s room and saw him there on the bed. He was just as I’d remember. Dangerously handsome with an aura of pride thick enough to pollute a whole nation. In this state, I could easily kill him without causing too much commotion. All I had to do was say the word and my soul in the room would blast him to pieces. My wolf was there with me and she urged me to do it but I just couldn’t. Not yet.

It was too easy. I needed his death to be as painful as I could make it be.

The next morning I went to the palace to apply as a maid. It was safe to say I charmed my way to get the job as his maid without going through all the necessary security checks and questions. Magic was not supposed to work inside the palace but I was an exception being a hybrid; probably the first of my kind.

“Thanks. I’ll resume tomorrow then?” I said with a bow to the head maid.

She bowed too completely under my charms.

“Why tomorrow?” A voice asked from behind me. It was Alpha Rowland. I knew even before I turned around to see his smiling face.

A feeling pierced my heart and his scent came to me very strongly. I knew what was happening even though my heart denied it. The smile on his face made it obvious he could feel it too.

I hadn’t felt this way when he had taken me forcefully so why did I feel it now or was it Freya and not me? It couldn’t be Freya. She wasn’t a werewolf. It was me!

He was my mate!
