Chapter 4: NINETY DAYS TO PREPARE

POV: PHINA

The news anchor’s voice drifted through the leather interior of the town car, but my mind was already calculating the terrifying reality. The atmospheric pressure shift was happening early. The ninety days I thought I had were shrinking before my eyes.

I couldn't afford to waste a single second.

"Driver, change route," I commanded smoothly. "Take me straight to Hastings Tower."

If I began buying mountain loads of non-perishable food, military-grade medical supplies, and industrial generators under my personal name, Harrison’s legal team would immediately flag the purchases as reckless behavior. They would try to claim I was mentally unstable to freeze my trust fund.

I had to play this smart.

The moment I stepped into the top-floor executive suite at Hastings Tower, I summoned Edwin. Edwin was my grandfather’s former chief of staff and head butler, a sharp, quiet man in his sixties with slicked-back silver hair and absolute loyalty. In my previous life, when the frost first hit and Harrison locked me out of the main pantry, Edwin had secretly slipped me a warm blanket and a tin of soup. He was one of the very few human beings who had shown me genuine kindness when my world shattered.

"Miss Phina," Edwin said, bowing with deep respect. "It is a privilege to see you standing in this office."

"Edwin, I need your complete discretion," I said, leaning over the wide mahogany desk. "I am launching a massive corporate emergency preparedness initiative across three Hastings subsidiary companies. We are acquiring survival resources on a scale that could supply a small city, but every contract must be split across different entities so no single supplier sees the whole picture."

Edwin didn't question my sanity or hesitate. He simply pulled out a leather notebook. "Where shall we begin, Miss Phina?"

"Through Hastings Logistics, order thousands of tons of vacuum-sealed grains, freeze-dried protein powders, and canned meats, citing disaster-relief donations for international charities," I ordered rapidly. "Through Hastings Medical, secure industrial-grade antibiotics, trauma kits, surgical units, and blood plasma. Through Hastings Industrial, purchase water-purification systems, fifty thousand gallons of refined diesel, heavy solar generators, satellite communication gear, cold-weather tactical clothing, and reinforced vehicles."

"Consider it handled," Edwin replied smoothly. "And the delivery destination?"

"Highland Crest Manor," I said.

Highland Crest was a heavily secluded, forty-acre architectural marvel nestled in the rugged hills two hours outside New York City. My grandfather had built it on deep bedrock foundations, complete with an independent natural freshwater spring and massive subterranean vaults beneath the private wine cellars. It was the ultimate refuge.

Over the next two weeks, Highland Crest became a covert construction war zone. I hired private engineering crews under strict non-disclosure agreements to fortify the perimeter with twelve-foot steel-reinforced concrete walls, install independent solar-grid utilities, and fit the underground cellars with climate-controlled ventilation. Every night, as supply trucks arrived under the cover of darkness, I stood in the deep underground vault and used my spatial ability to sweep endless tons of supplies into my growing pocket dimension.

My spatial storage expanded daily, turning into a vast, weightless sanctuary capable of holding cargo indefinitely without decay.

But money and supplies alone wouldn't save me when society collapsed. In my previous life, I was physically weak, helpless, and easily overpowered. That would never happen again.

I hired three former Special Forces instructors for intensive, eight-hour daily training sessions. They pushed my body to its absolute limits, teaching me hand-to-hand combat, tactical blade work, endurance, emergency response, and precision marksmanship. My muscles burned, my skin bruised, and my palms calloused, but every drop of sweat was a promise to my lost baby: I will never be a victim again.

Meanwhile, across the city, Harrison Bennet was spiraling into paranoia.

In his high-rise office, Harrison slammed his crystal tumbler onto his desk, shattering the glass. "What do you mean her personal accounts are empty?!" he roared at his financial manager.

"Mr. Bennet, Mrs. Bennet has moved her liquid inheritance into international private holdings and corporate subsidiaries," the manager stammered, wiping sweat from his forehead. "She is liquidating assets at an unprecedented speed, but we can't track where the capital is going."

Vera walked up behind Harrison, placing her hands on his tense shoulders, her voice dripping with subtle poison. "Harrison, darling... She's doing this on purpose to strip you of everything. If she drains all that money out of reach before the divorce is finalized, you won't get a single dollar. You have to fight back before she takes everything."

Harrison’s eyes narrowed into slit-like embers of cold malice. "She thinks she can outsmart me? She's my wife. Everything she owns belongs to the Bennet family."

He grabbed his phone and dialed his head legal counsel. "I don't care what judge you have to leverage," Harrison growled. "Lock her down now."

Late that evening, while I was sitting in my study at Highland Crest reviewing supply manifests with Edwin, Arthur Pendleton's call came through.

"Phina, we have a situation," Arthur said, his tone grim. "Harrison’s lawyer just filed an emergency ex parte motion with the High Court to freeze all your assets."

POV: PHINAHarrison stood outside the heavy iron gate. He was staring at the thick wall of a fortress he thought I could never build.Through the clear screen in my security office, I watched him on the camera feed. The icy storm was getting worse. Freezing rain hit his face and soaked his dark hair. Behind him, his black car sat idling, breathing white smoke into the freezing air.He reached out and slammed his hand against the call button on the gate post. The intercom on my desk buzzed with a sharp noise. I pressed the answer button, keeping my posture relaxed and my voice steady."Phina!" Harrison’s voice came loudly through the speaker, mixed with the sound of the howling wind. "Open this gate right now!"I did not answer right away. I took a slow sip of my hot tea, letting him wait until I heard him growl in anger on the other side."I know you are listening to me!" he yelled, stepping closer to the camera lens. His eyes were wide and red from the biting cold. "Stop this stupid

POV: PHINAThe giant storm showing on the screen was not just bad weather. It was a ghost from my past life.I stood in the basement command center, staring at the radar map. A huge wave of freezing air was rushing down from the ocean, hitting the warm air near the coast. The computers flashed wildly as the air pressure dropped fast.I knew this storm pattern. In my past life, people called it "The First Spike." It was the first sudden wave of icy air that broke power lines, froze water pipes, and trapped thousands of people in their cars. The problem was that this storm was happening much too early. In my past life, it happened weeks later. Today was October 28, only two weeks after I woke up in the past on October 14.The timeline was changing. The disaster was moving faster, completely out of my control.Suddenly, the lights in the room flickered and went out. The loud hum of the heaters stopped. The room turned dark, except for the soft blue light of my battery-powered screens.Do

POV: PHINAThe most dangerous thing about my second chance was that the future was no longer following the script I remembered.I sat in the cold, blue light of the subterranean command center beneath Highland Crest Manor, surrounded by printouts, satellite radar feeds, and my leather-bound survival logbook. On the left screen was the precise timeline of events from my first life, the neat, predictable sequence of disasters that had led to the global freeze. On the right was the live meteorological data updating every thirty seconds. They were completely out of sync.A severe cold-air intrusion that wasn't supposed to manifest until late November was already sweeping down through the northern corridor. Oceanic surface temperatures in the Atlantic were plummeting at three times the speed I remembered, and localized power grid fluctuations were already being reported in rural counties. My presence in this timeline had altered the butterfly effect. My aggressive acquisition of heavy equi

POV: PHINAThe workers discovered a sealed chamber beneath Highland Crest Manor that wasn’t recorded on any modern property plan.I stood at the bottom of the basement stairs, staring into a newly excavated trench in the concrete floor. The construction crew had been drilling through the foundation of the old east wing to lay high-voltage electrical conduits for our new generator array. But instead of striking solid bedrock, their heavy drills had punched straight into a subterranean wall made of reinforced cold-rolled steel.Edwin held an industrial spotlight over the opening, illuminating a massive, rusted vault door embedded deep inside the earth. A mechanical wheel handle sat in the center, locked behind a heavy keyhole mechanism."We stopped drilling immediately, Miss Phina," the lead engineer said, wiping grease and dust from his forehead. "This isn't part of the blueprinted foundation. It sits nearly twenty feet below the manor’s original basement floor."I immediately dialed A

POV: HARRISONI had never cared where Phina went, what she did, or who she spent her time with. For five years, she had been a shadow in my home, a quiet, predictable woman who lived entirely for my approval. She was kind of wife who would wait up late just to take my jacket, cook meals I barely touched, and swallow her own feelings whenever I prioritized Vera. I had always owned her.So when I sat at my desk inside the top-floor executive suite of Bennet Holdings, staring at an empty chair across from me, a deep, bitter rage burned in my throat. She was building a life I could not control. The woman who used to cry if I raised my voice now hung up on me without hesitation. She didn't return to the Bennet mansion. She ignored my official legal notices. She had stripped our joint accounts, hidden her money behind corporate walls, and hired a team of high-priced lawyers who treated my legal team like amateur children.A quiet knock echoed at the door, and Vera walked in. She was wearing

POV: PHINAThe stranger parked outside my secondary distribution warehouse wasn’t attempting to break in, nor was the person stealing my supplies, he or she was counting them.Standing in the darkened observation loft of the fuel depot ten miles outside the city, I stared through a pair of long-range night-vision binoculars. Down on the rain-slicked gravel shoulder, a dark grey SUV sat with its engine idling. The driver's side window was cracked open just an inch, the long telephoto lens of a high-end camera resting against the glass, quietly snapping photos of every semi-truck hauling insulated fuel bladders into our underground storage bays.Edwin stepped up beside me, his tread silent on the steel catwalk. "I ran the plates through our contact at the DMV, Miss Phina. They're cloned tags belonging to a scrapped sedan in New Jersey. Furthermore, our logistics team spotted this exact same vehicle stationed near two separate medical equipment suppliers in Connecticut yesterday, both co
