SARA'S POV

"Have coffee with me," Alaric rephrased.

There was a certainty backing his tone this time, as though he expected refusal.

He wasn't entirely wrong because my first instinct after he posed it as a question to me was to shake my head but I stopped myself mid-way, "Yes, I would love to but instead of coffee, how about I treat you to a meal instead."

His eyes lit up instantly. He certainly looked as though he didn't think I would refuse his offer to propose another of my own, "That sounds nice, what do you suggest? Shall I make a reservation at a nice place?"

I paused then and let out a small laugh, "You make it sound as though you want it to be a date."

"I do."

I stilled again, caught off guard at his honesty but without stopping to catch a breath, he added, "It's fine if it isn't one too, you can still treat me to a nice meal regardless. I wouldn't pass up on the chance to get some free food."

That made me chuckle, accompanied by a quiet exhale of relief. Alaric had sounded so

SARA’S POV The elevator door slid shut and I heaved a sigh, watching the numbers move.Just then, my phone began to ring, its loud beep disturbing the serenity within the elevator.I glanced down at the screen.Alaric.Without hesitating any further, I picked his call and brought my phone up to my ears, “Hello.”“Sara.” Alaric’s voice reached me. His tone was calm as always but somehow, it reminded me of the frantic texts I had gotten from him a few days back. Each time I recollected that, I envisioned him in the same state, panicking.I wasn’t there with him so I couldn’t tell how he’d acted but something told me it was exactly like I imagined and each moment I thought about it, it warmed my heart.“Are you busy?” He asked.“Not exactly, I just left the office.” I responded, holding my phone tighter to my ear so it wouldn’t fall while I tried to adjust the strap of my purse.“Good.” Alaric muttered.I was about to ask him why that was good when he added. “Then we can meet.”“Meet?”

THIRD PERSON'S POV Neither of them was expecting to see the other. They stood a couple of feets apart, staring at each other. Neither talked nor moved, they just stared at each other.Derek didn't think he would meet Alaric here, he had no intention of meeting up with him either. When Sara had confronted him last night, with the things she'd heard from Freeman, he knew it could only have been one person that opened her eyes to see the possibility and that person now stood before him."I didn't expect to see you here."It was Alaric who broke the silence first.Derek's brows raised. His gaze flicked over Alaric, scanning him from head to toe before he responded. "I didn't expect to see you either."Neither spoke of the reason they were there, but they both already seemed to be aware of each other's intention..The look in both of their gazes was meaningful too. After another long stretch of silence, Alaric spoke again. "How's Sara?"Derek's brows raised. He gave him a long lasting, pen

THIRD PERSON'S POVDanielle woke up because the house sounded different. At home, mornings were always silent. There usually was always no hum of the coffee machine unless mommy was home and the only time she heard soft footsteps was when mommy or Mrs Rodriguez came to wake her up.Daddy would have left for work already, and it was only sometimes that she heard the faint hum of his car as it pulled away from the driveway but Uncle Alaric's house was very different.Yesterday, Aunt Rina had packed both her and Clara's thing and brought them here, saying something about a leaking pipe.Danielle didn't understand what had gone wrong but she did understand that it meant that she would have to stay at Uncle Alaric's house if she wanted to keep on accompanying Clara. So, when Aunt Rina told her, she had immediately agreed.Afterwards, she had tried calling both Daddy and Mommy to inform them of the change in their location but neither of her parents were picking up.Their lack of a response

THIRD PERSON'S POVPrisons have a particular smell. It’s not just disinfectant or concrete or the faint trace of rust from old bars.It was fear in its recycled and stale state, layered over time until it seeped through clothes and settled under skin. He noticed it the moment he stepped past the final checkpoint, even though he wants a stranger to places like this. He had visited detention centers, holding cells and Interrogation wings before now, an information that anyone would have found surprising about him.Laurent had been moved here quietly. There was no press nor spectacle. Everything had been kept under wraps and tucked away from the public's eyes which he agreed to, not for any other reason than to protect Sara's reputation. He adjusted the cuffs of his coat as he followed the guard down the corridor, his footsteps echoing too loudly in the narrow hall. Every step felt deliberate. Controlled. That was the only way he knew how to move when anger lived this close to the surf

DEREK'S POVIt was in the lobby of Reinhart’s auxiliary building that I saw him.Freeman was standing near the concierge desk, jacket slung over one arm, speaking into his phone with an expression that looked perpetually strained. He noticed me at the same time I noticed him.“Sara,” he said, surprise flickering across his face. “I didn’t know you were back on-site.” His exepression was more engaging than the first tune I had met him and I couldn't help but notice the difference. It was too obvious not to.“I wasn’t meant to be,” I replied lightly. “Just tying up loose ends.”He nodded and slipped his phone into his pocket. “Right. You should have taken some time off.”"I'm so sorry about what happened the other day? those tow were just crazy but I can assure you that they have been dealt with and taken to the appropriate authorities where they'll never bother you again. There was an awkward beat of silence between us.Freeman had always been careful around me. Friendly but guarded, l

  • REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE    Chapter 215

SARA’S POVI hadn’t planned to go looking for Freeman.I mean....How was I supposed to run into him if I wasn't even out and about? In fact, I hadn’t planned much of anything for that day. For the better half of the morning, after Derek left me in the room and headed to God knows where, I remained in bed, thinking, ruminating and just going over everything over and over again in my head.At first, I thought of calling Rina to tell her what was happening, hoping she could help me she'd more light and basically teach me how to react but decided against that when I recollected that Danielle was with her.Danielle overhearing our conversation was a risk I couldn't take. I didn't even know yet how to explain to get that I was getting a divorce from Derek, much less explain what I had experienced here in Vienna and what I had found out.I eventually didn't end up calling Rina and when my thoughts began to get crushing, I got out of bed, slipping my feets into the furry slippers next to the
