LOGINELARA'S POV
I looked around frantically, as much as my back would allow me. Trying to find the source of the voice. "Who is that?" I said into the darkness. No reply. "Please, tell me who you are? Are you here to help me? I pleaded. Silence again. "Please, whoever you are, I need your help now more than ever. I can sense you, I can sense the cold before you speak, please tell me who you are?" I asked while straining my ears to listen. After a few moments, I knew I was not going to get a reply. The voice decided when to talk to me. This dashed my hopes, I had thought I had someone, anyone, looking after me and assuring me. "It must be my mind playing tricks on me, I guess" I resigned. "But what if there actually was someone to help me, how would they even get in and get me out of here?" I chuckled sadly to myself at the realization that I might just be doomed to a life of suffering and maybe. Death. I was scared for whatever plans the Alpha had for me. I am scared for my life. "I don't want to die yet" I sobbed. I didn't know how much more my body could take, I could still feel the bond, it was faint but it was there. This cursed bond, I wish I could rip it out and die from the pain, instead of suffering. "Why is the bond still in place even after the Alpha rejected me?" I thought to myself, maybe I had to reject him too. Okay. I'll do it. "I, Elara Cornell, reject Alpha Kane as my mate, I don't want anything to do with him and I want the mate bond gone" I said, and waited. A minute passed, two, ten. Nothing happened. I felt for the bond, and it was still there, unmoving, mocking me. This bond made me vulnerable to the Alpha's attacks any my rejection didn't do anything to it. I had never heard of this. I truly truly hoped the Alpha was trying to severe the bond. Maybe then, I could plead for my life and he would let me go. A few hours had passed, my back felt slightly better, slightly, I tried to sit up and get the water I needed, it hurt like hell but I had to, I needed to have a drink of water. I used my hands and pushed myself up from the straw bed, slowly but surely, I couldn't sit up fully yet so I stretched my hands and picked up the cup of water. A sliver of joy ran through me at completing this small task. I greedily drank from the water, it wasn't much, but it was better than nothing. A blinding pain flashed through me. "ahhhhh" the cup fell from my hands, hitting my bed with a thud. This pain. It was back. I remember the pain, it was from the night Yvette was with the Alpha. He was probably trying to punish me through the bond since he couldn't punish me physically without risking me dying on him. How cruel! I didn't want this. I hate him, with every pain I felt, my hate for him only just increased. With each anger I felt, my disdain for him increased. I had never felt this strongly toward anyone, not even when the bond snapped into place. But now, I was ready to get rid of this, I didn't want to feel this. He had no right to have this much control over me. I don't know how but I could feel the pain and reach into it and I could recognize it. Tears brimmed at the corner of my eyes, I didn't want to feel this pain, I didn't want the alpha to have such power over me. I didn't want anyone to have such power over me. "I don't want to feel this pain" I whispered, but I meant it from my guts In my heart, I reached for the pain, with my mind's eye, I reached for the bond. "I don't want this pain" I said, stronger and louder this time. I could see the bond behind my closed eyelids, it glowed and looked like it burned, I reached out to touch it, my fingers grazed it and the light dimmed. The pain reduced to a low throb. I sighed in relief. I didn't know how, but the bond had been weakened. I slowly turned to lay on my front because I didn't want my back to hurt from the floor, my eyes were starting to close. I suddenly felt tired. I lay down and my eyes fluttered close as I drifted into a painless sleep. The bond had been weakened. This was my last thought before drifting off to sleep. ...... I was dreaming a happy dream. In a field..with flowers...I danced round happily, looking at somewhere so beautiful. The place smelt so wonderful. Was this how death was? I thought to myself. I knew I was dreaming but it was starting to blur. I felt a presence behind me. I turned around and saw nothing, just an endless field of flowers. I turned back and I saw the bond, burning, glowing. I wasn't scared of the pain anymore. I wasn't scared of the bond. Then I heard the voice again. "Reach out to it, touch it" This time, I didn't question the voice or turn around to look for the source. I smiled, reached out my hands and touched it and it immediately felt cool to the touch, no longer burning. I heard the same words again in my dream. This time not from me. "You have weakened the bond, Elara," she said. I smiled. Happy in my sleep. I knew waking up to reality and I would be met with only darkness and pain. So I held onto this peace as long as sleep would let me. Because when I woke...the darkness would be waiting.THIRD PERSON POVA few years ago…This was the umpteenth time Beros had tried to get in to the abyss, but to no avail. Whenever he tried breaching the wall and the keeper of the abyss, he was spat back out angrily. He had used everything in his arsenal, every power he had, he had tried to burn the wall of the abyss, it didn’t work. The magic guarding the abyss was older and stronger than the one inside of him. After all, the abyss was older than anything and had to be strong enough to hold the creatures inside of it.Frustrated, he groaned, banging his head against the wall of the abyss. He had been doing this for almost three thousand years, chasing after the ghost of his love.“I won’t give up” he whispered to himself.“I won’t give up” he said louder this time.“I will not give up” he yelled at the top of his voice, anger rolling off him. “Tell me, what is it you want?” His voice echoed in the silence. “What is it you want? Let me in and I will give it to you, tell me” he yelled
ELARA’S POVThe words caught in my throat. My eyes widened as I struggled to say something, anything, but my throat wouldn’t – couldn’t cooperate. What had Beros done? Sold his soul to the abyss? He had damned himself, there was no redemption. No redemption. “What have you done?” I finally spoke, my words coming out in broken gasps. No no. I can’t believe this. I refuse to believe Beros had done this to himself, to us. His soul? What else was left of him if he owed something in that abyss, his soul. That abyss was a cage for creatures stronger, older than us. We didn’t know how we knew, we just knew. And the warning was seared into our heads when we came into existence, the abyss was not to be trifled with. And now my lover, my mate, had gone as far as to sacrifice his soul to retrieve mine. An exchange, a deadly exchange.“No no no” I didn’t know I was saying the words out loud till I cradled my hand with my head.I had barely gotten used to the news that Beros and I were bonded to
ELARA’S POV.I turned to look at Beros, panic flashing in my eyes. “You went to the abyss?” Before Beros could answer me, Nyxar spoke again“Yes he did, dear Elara” his tone mocking. He derived satisfaction from the look on my face and me – I was too stunned to speak. Beros had gone to the abyss? The same abyss he had vehemently refused me going to. Maybe that was why he had been so adamant about it, he had gone there and done things, things I didn’t know, things that he knew would be revealed if I had gone there myself. “What did you do Beros? Tell me” I grabbed his arm and shook him this time, forcing him to tear his attention away from Nyxar. As he looked at me, I saw his expression soften for a split second, before hardening again. He turned to face Nyxar without a word.“Get out of here Nyxar, all you do is leave destruction in your wake, be gone”.Nyxar raised his hands up in mock obedience. All he did was mock us and flaunt his power, that was all he came here to do. “Okay
ELARA’S POV What did Nyxar know that I didn't? I didn't have any recollection of what happened during my absence, I just assumed I had ceased to exist and Nyxar was here claiming to know something I didn't.I shifted uneasily as I stared at him, waiting for him to say what he knew so he could be out of here, it was obvious he didn't come here for a fight, not yet. If he wanted to fight, it would have started long ago, there would be no time for small talk. “What is it? What do you know?” Beros barked from behind me, his patience growing thin.Nyxar smirked lazily as his attention shifted from me to Beros “well well, aren't you an impatient man? For someone that waited for how long? 3000 years to be reunited with the love of his love, I thought you'd have learnt patience by now”Nyxar teased Beros, effectively drawing a growl out of him, but before Beros could continue any further. Nyxar held a hand up and began to speak again.“I'm sure you know by now I didn't come here to fight, a
ELARA’S POVI stepped back and felt Beros’ arm grab me, stopping me from moving further back. I turned to look at him but his eyes were trained on the figure in front of us. It was Nyxar, in the flesh. He had finally decided to reveal himself after everything. But it was too early, too soon, we weren't prepared, nothing was ready, how had he come so soon?…. I realized I was beginning to spiral so I willed myself to calm down, overthinking wouldn't solve anything. Nyxar was here now, and we had to brace ourselves for anything. He stood there, his eyes flickering between Beros and I, if I had thought the black magic would make any visible change in his body, I was wrong, he hadn't changed a bit, his features still looked the same. The same black hair, only much shorter now, same jawline. He was handsome, extremely good-looking as all the deities were but the darkness that clouded his heart made him disgusting to look at. “What do you want here?” I finally gathered myself enough to spea
ELARA’S POVI felt the shattering of the wards in my mind before they shattered all around us. It was as if a dome shaped invisible barrier was hit by something strong and it began to collapse.I looked around and saw shards of ice – like magic falling from the sky, but dissolving before it could reach the ground. It was the ward shattering. But how could they do that? I could perceive black magic, but who could do that here? Was it Nyxar? He shouldn't have been able to access the wards, it was impossible. The moon slowly began to dim as its job was done. I looked around as the last tendrils of the moon's essence floated around a bit before dissolving into thin air. The ritual had been successful. But we couldn't celebrate now, something had breached our walls, and if it was who I thought it was, it would have to be a full blown war.I turned to look at Beros, who had stopped pacing too, and was watching what was happening, everyone had gone still, it was as if the wolves could sense
