The Hunt

The air was hot and sticky as we gathered by the border getting ready to hunt. I wondered if I should show Selwyn up front just how powerful I really am. I know he would never fear me but I wanted him to trust me. I also wanted to be able to trust him and his pack. Reya was clawing at my mind to get loose and protect her mate at all cost. I wasn’t about to shift right here in the center of the warriors. My dragon is not exactly small. I also knew that Selwyn and his wolf Maxim have a driving need to keep me safe so I couldn’t be reckless in my rage against the cats. I didn’t want him getting hurt because of me or my magic. Still I wanted to let Selwyn know that I can handle a good fight. I turned to him and whispered,” I have to warn you my mate that in a fight my looks change and my power is unsettling if you have never seen it. I don’t want to distract you while we hunt.” I could tell for a split second he was unsure what to expect but that he also agreed with me that the pack didn’t need any distractions during a full on hunt. He nodded to me and told me to show them what to expect. He gathered his warriors to make a circle around me so I could show them all how I was going to fight the cats. He explained to them what I told him but didn’t tell them I am a dragon. That was probably for the best for now and I was grateful. You never who could be a traitor within the pack. I already had my doubts about beta Ray and his loyalty to my mate. I didn’t want them to fear me. Selwyn walked over to me in the circle and kissed me and said,” Show us what you got my Rain.” I nodded my head and waited for him to back away from me. Electricity danced in sparks up my fingers and my eyes turned an electric shade of blue as I called the earth’s natural currents to me out of the air around us. I turned my gaze all around the circle and let each warrior see me as the electricity wrapped around my hands. Finally I looked at Alpha Selwyn and smirked. Then I let go of the currents and let him know we didn’t need to waste anymore time. I was ready to fry some kitty cats. He commanded the warriors to shift and then he shifted into his beautifully large black wolf. Letting Maxim take control for the hunt he lead the warriors into the forest beyond the border of the pack after the cats. For me I was going after the first cat that tried to set a trap for us. One thing I knew about cat shifters was the fact that they are fast but arrogant and cocky. This would be easy and fun for me. I ran at full speed following the scent of the cat while feeling Maxim thru the bond he has with Reya. I followed the cat until his scent started to become really strong then I stopped and took in my surroundings looking for the trap he set for the wolves. I noticed on the ground there were large metal traps with teeth that would catch a wolf cutting into his leg and trapping him. The cats believing the wolfs would be stupid enough to run head first into those traps. I moved very quickly and quietly until I was in the center of the traps and I waited until the cat emerged. He was a large mountain lion shifter and he didn’t even bother to hide himself. He must have assumed I was caught in a trap. He shifted to his human form standing over 6 feet tall and very muscular. I however was not impressed. My hatred for all cat shifters was so strong that no matter what he looked like I would end him. “ What have we here?A prize I will enjoy playing with before I rip you to shreds.” He said in a deep raspy voice. His face was scarred yet handsome and he looked menacing. He looked to be an older cat who had fought a few battles in his time. I smiled letting the electric currents from the air wrap around my hands and feeling my eyes change to electric blue. “ I am your end Kitty cat.” I said in a calm voice. Inside my rage was boiling but I needed to be quick in order to help Selwyn if need be. The need to protect my mate was very strong. I released the electric balls of energy in my hands very quickly and watched the look of surprise on the cat man’s face as he fell to the ground lifeless. I sent my power outside myself and made sure no more cats were around me. I quickly destroyed all the traps with my magic so no one would be hurt by them. I also was able to locate Selwyn after the traps all fell apart and disintegrated so I ran in that direction. It wasn’t long before I ran to the edge of a clearing where the warriors and Selwyn were in battle with a large number of cats. They must have planned an ambush thinking the wolves would be caught in the traps. I didn’t want to run into the middle of the fight because I didn’t want to distract my mate so I made my way around the edge of the fight picking off cats as I went and making sure not to hurt any of the warriors in the process. Being a dragon I was able to fight and keep an eye on my mate. You could say I was a true multitasker. My magic was very strong. My Alpha mate was a fighter like none I have ever seen. His wolf Maxim was lethal using his teeth and claws to rip the cats apart. I was proud to have such a strong mate. Even covered in blood he was magnificent. His wolf was the largest I had ever seen and I couldn’t wait to spend time with him. I fought my way around the clearing not letting any cat escape. This was not an option for me. Rage filled me as I glanced again at Selwyn and saw a large tiger shifter sneaking up behind him while he fought a mountain lion shifter. The rage grew stronger as I made my way to my mate. The mountain lion was clawing at Selwyn and landed a huge jagged cut down his side knocking him over into the path of the tiger. I knew I had to act fast and I knew I had to use a lot of dragon power to kill all the cats quick so I could heal my mate. He was fighting still but from the loss of blood I could tell he was getting tired fast. His energy was slowing leaving him and I felt that to my core. I wasn’t about to let anyone or anything hurt what was mine and Selwyn was mine. Instead of running to Selwyn I ran into the center of the fighting and focused all my power on the cats in the clearing. Making absolute sure the wolves wouldn’t get hurt I released massive amounts of electricity from my body making the air crackle around us. At once the cats all dropped lifeless on the ground. Selwyn looked up at me with shock. I ran to my mate who had just shifted back to his human form and was staggering my way. I threw my arms around him and kissed him grateful that he was only scratched and not dead. Cat shifters were a collection of all kinds of cats grouped into clans around the world and they were vicious. I hated them all. I scanned Selwyn’s body assessing the damage and placed my hands over the jagged claw marks from the mountain lion shifter. I released healing energy into him. Within seconds the wound healed and I poured some of my own life force back into my mate to help him heal even faster. He looked into my eyes with his deep blue ones filled with amazement and wonder and said,” You my beautiful mate are amazing. I can’t believe what I have seen here today. Let’s go home.” Then he kissed me deeply and called to the warriors. They stayed in wolf form as he commanded them to be secretive about me until he formally introduced me to the whole pack. He never revealed to them that I was indeed a dragon. He then told the warriors to go back to the pack lands. His two beta brothers waited for his command to them. Selwyn gazed at them and told them to meet him back at the pack house in his office. They immediately obeyed and took off in a run. It suddenly dawned on me that my mate was naked and very close to me. My body began to heat up and I knew that he knew from his sudden intake of air. A growl left his throat and I immediately clothed him in jeans and tee shirt along with some running shoes. I smiled at him and whispered “ Take me home my mate.” It was then that happiness filled me as I ran beside my mate back to my forever home.
