Chapter 4

Sneaking around with a spell

My parents literally locked me in my bedroom suite. I thought it was bullshit. I was twenty two years old and rolled my eyes as I cursed. I turned my music up full blast and created a magic lightshow that filled my room with colorful smoke. The smoke alarms went off twice and rained water onto my entire room. I tried to transfer myself with magic and both my parents bound me to the room. 

"Ugh! I hate having magic gifted parents!" If they were just reapers I could walk right out the door. I pulled out my cell and called Ellis and was surprised when he answered.

"Hey, I wanted to apologize for all of that drama. Nothing my father said was true." Ellis interrupted me and asked,"us being soulmates was false because I'd beg to differ. I'm really into you, Skye. I miss you and wish you were with me." I melted and told him that I felt the exact same way but was magically locked in my room. 

"I put a protective spell on you so you should be able to avert any reaper that comes for you." He thanked me and told me his dad was setting up a date with his friend's daughter.

"I don't want to go but I'll be cut off if I don't behave like a monkey and do what he requests," he groaned painfully and I told him I set off my sprinklers and soaked my entire room. 

"Skye, she's nowhere near as beautiful as you and she thinks I'm a dog," he mumbled softly and I thanked him for apparently being aware that I was dying inside over the news. "I'll FaceTime you for the whole thing and pretend that you're there with me instead of the mean one," he added and I said okay. A call broke in on my call waiting and I saw it's my brother Liam. I told Ellis I had to talk to my brother and I'd text him later. I answered to my older brother laughing at me. I gritted my teeth.

"Locked in your room and forgot the spell I taught you eh?" He started and asked if I loved the guy.

"I'm only just getting to know him, he's human and I was supposed to reap his soul," I mumbled softly hearing him whistle and curse.

"My buddy Chance is still available." I told him hell no. I didn't want anything to do with the gray colored dark elf. I told him about Rai and my protection spell I'd placed on Ellis.

"I'll text you the escape spell, put pillows on your bed like you're sleeping and use an illusion spell, good luck little sis," he told me.

I thanked him and ended the call waiting for his message. I was in my guest room, the only dry section of my suite and laid flat on the small twin bed. I bounced my head against the mattress as I waited for the notification. I thought how could I hide my whereabouts from the queen and king. I was certain that my brother's spell took her knowledge into account. Liam was very skilled with spells and would grow into a supremely skilled wizard. He always told me I was more powerful than him but I figured he was just being a kind sibling. My cell dinged and I grabbed it . I grinned devilishly as my eyes scanned over the easy spell. I tucked my cell in my back pocket and started stacking pillows. I did the chant for the spell and vanished completely

 I reappeared outside Ellis's room door and knocked. He opened the door a crack and looked surprised by me standing there. 

"My dad's here with that girl I was telling you about," he said softly and I furrowed my brow and frowned.

"I'll just go back to my room then," I say sadly and begin to turn to walk down the stairs. I heard the door slam against the wall and felt him grab me from behind.

"I didn't mean you had to leave, Skye. Come on and say hi to my overbearing father," he said softly with a grin. I ran my fingers through my hair and pulled my wrinkled shirt down further.

"You're beautiful and when he saw your painting he didn't think you were real," he grinned. I smiled and told him I felt uncomfortable. 

"I'll stay by your side so he doesn't try anything," he told me and I shook my head not needing his help. He brought me into his connected room and I see it's a full living room with an attached kitchen. I can see the snobbish woman looking down her upturned nose at me and I chuckled internally. 

"Dad, please meet the woman I consider my muse, Skye Reoch. Sweetheart this is my father, Daniel Orion and Rebecca Snyder, a family friend. I nodded my head and greeted them like I'd been taught to in the palace. Ellis looked nothing like his slimey father and the Rebecca woman looked and dressed like a cheap whore. Was it bad for me to judge by appearances, perhaps but I had a hunch they both were high on narcotics before I could see the residue around their noses. 

"I don't know what you find so appealing about my son but I can assure you that he has no inheritance coming nor any stock in any of my businesses," the rude prick said as his gray eyes traveled all over my person. I shuddered and told him I was well off myself and didn't require any man or woman for money.

"Marrying for money is so mid century," I said blandly and Daniel Orion scowled at me. He stood and grabbed the woman's arm.

"We're leaving, next time will be for nuptials," he sneered and Ellis shook his head and said nope as he closed the door behind his sleazeball father.

"Sorry, he's horrible." I agreed readily and told him they both were high on crank, coke or meth.

"Probably all three, you really shook him up by saying that mid century thing, I thought he was going to blow a gasket." I shrugged and headed towards his bedroom. I laid down completely on the couch situated against the wall.

"You can have my bed. I don't mind sleeping on here and staring at your painting," he smiled and I told him alright and snapped boxers and a t-shirt onto myself and he groaned painfully.

"You have no clue how hot and sexy you look, do you?" I looked at him questionably and shook my head at him eyeing my ass. 

"Don't be pervy like your dad," I growled angrily and he looked up at the ceiling and waved his hands. He wished me a good night and I laid down on his small twin and immediately was assaulted by his scent. It was nice and I snuggled against his pillow breathing him into myself. I slept perfectly and was drooling all over Ellis's pillow. I opened my eyes to sunlight shining into the windows above his bed. I looked at the alarm clock and it showed 8:39. I rubbed my eyes and climbed from the bed and glanced over at the couch to see it empty. I frowned slightly and went to the kitchen to see a note.

Skye, I had class. You can stay if you want but if you leave let me know so I don't worry.

P.S. you snore when you sleep and say cute things. 

Later, Ellis.

I covered my mouth as embarrassment filled me. I looked for something to write with, found an ink pen and wrote to him that I was going to check in at home and would be back later. I thanked him for the use of his bed and apologized for the drool. I reread it and signed my name before disappearing and reappearing in my palace room to loud pounding on the door. 

"I'm coming, I was sleeping," I growled bitterly. I opened the door to my mother with her arms crossed and her tapping her foot.

"What made you think that I wouldn't recognize your brother's spell being reused once again, Skye. Did you go to him, the human?" I looked down and chewed on my bottom lip feeling guilty.

"He's my soulmate mom, I don't care that he's human. I want to be with him. My soul calms in his presence and feels complete," I stated my seriousness. My mother rubbed her eyes.

"Rai wants him reaped and will eventually do it himself. You do know that right?" I shook my head and told her he can't. I will lose myself, my other half," I cried and my mother told me to find a way to bring him to the reaper side.

"Because I love you child, hide him here. With all our combined powers we can make it seem like he's not even here," she waved her hands in the air and I hugged her tightly telling her how much I loved her. She grinned happily and told me to go get my human. I nodded and disappeared back to Ellis's room. I texted Liam and asked him to help me take a human to the reaper's palace. After I hit send my phone started ringing. I answered to hear my brother yelling.

"Your protection spell is null and void in the land of reapers, sis. Leave the human in the human realm with your protection spell." I frowned and told him about mom helping and he chuckled.

"Really Skye, she's the reaper queen and subservient to Rai. She's making it easy for him to come and take his soul, surely you can see that it's a trick," he said softly and I exhaled deeply not believing my mother would be so cruel.

"She knew it was your spell I used and I got caught when I returned," I mumbled bitterly and he told me I should have tweaked it and claimed it as my own. I rubbed my eyes and said yeah.

"I'd suggest bringing him here but Chance would just kill him for your hand. I rolled my eyes and told him I was going to talk with Ellis and come up with a plan. I told him I loved him and would talk with him later as I leaned back contemplating my mess. I glanced around Ellis's dorm room and started weaving a ward around the entire structure. The man in question walked into his place with his arms full of Chinese take out.

"Hope you're hungry," he grinned sweetly and I jumped up to help him carry bags of containers. 

"I'm so glad you're still here, Skye. I've been thinking about you all day. "Likewise,  I replied happily.
