~ELARA~

"THE SINS OF the father shall visit the children," I muttered these words under my breath as I sat in my dejected cell. The ground was hard and cold, the air was damp, and the cell was black as night.

The outcome of the meeting had been passed to me by a maid. Alpha Marcel had sentenced me to death for the crimes of my grandfather.

I laughed bitterly. If this was how I would die, why had the Moon Goddess given me another chance at life? I asked myself.

I spent the past two days without seeing anyone except the small maid girl that brought my meals to me, but she did not exchange any words with me. I had lost track of time, but the feeling of impending doom was in my heart, so I knew my time was drawing nearer.

Freya, I called for my wolf.

"I'm here, " she replied, her voice weaker than before.

“I love you,” I told her. “In this life and the next, if the Moon Goddess will...” My voice choked, unable to finish my sentence.

Then the door grated open, and a sliver of torchlight cut across the floor. Alpha Marcel stood in it. I had not heard him approach. I scrambled to my feet but kept my head held high. If he was going to kill me, I would die as a Luna standing proud, not a weak, shamed Omega.

"Do you have anything you want to say?" He asked me. This was the first time I had seen him since he knew my name.

"Will my words have any effect on your decision?" I asked.

He hesitated for a second before saying, "No."

"I thought as much." I muttered. "If it doesn't make any difference to you, I would rather spend my last few hours alone."

"Your grandfather did not give that option to my people when he massacred them."

"You are behaving so much like him," I snarled. "I did not know the man, but I am certain—"

His eyes flared amber in the dark. “I am nothing like your grandfather.” His growl rolled off the cave walls. “He was a monster.”

"And yet you will have me killed for something that happened before my parents were born, and all for what? A show of power?" I asked.

"Revenge!"

I did not flinch. “Then call it what it is.” I lifted my chin. “When it is time, come and take me. But if you expect me to beg, you will be disappointed.” I held his gaze, hoping my strong demeanor hid the fear in me.

None of us moved for the next minute.

Then, out of nowhere, the nausea hit me like a wave. It came without warning. One moment, I was standing, holding his stare, and the next, my stomach clenched and rolled. My mouth flooded, and the little food I had managed to eat that morning came up my throat.

I turned my head, but it was too late. I decorated his expensive looking shoes with my vomit.

The sound was ugly in the silence. I doubled over, one hand braced against the wall, and heaved until there was nothing left until my body shook and my eyes streamed.

When it was over, I straightened slowly and wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. Marcel had not moved.

He was staring at me with an expression I could not read.

"I..." I started. "I did not..." but I did not get the chance to finish. He turned on his heel and stormed out of the cell. The door slammed behind him. I stood there in the darkness, shaking, my mouth still tasting of bile.

Then the door opened again, and two maids came in. One took me by the arm and pulled me out of the cell, and the other walked behind me.

I thought this was it. I thought they were leading me to my execution, but to my surprise, we were at the clinic. I was pushed inside, and when I turned to ask a question, the maids were already gone. I stood there alone for a long moment, and then a woman came in. I recognized her red hair. Jane, Marcel's sister. She was the one who had treated me before.

She gave me a tight smile as she gestured me to sit. Then she took my pulse and went about running the familiar tests on me. I knew my secret was about to be undone,

She had been pressing her fingers to my lower belly, and then she froze. She placed the stethoscope against my belly and closed her eyes. Then she sat back on her heels and looked at me. "You are pregnant," she said.

I sighed and buried my head in my hands.

"You do not look surprised," she said. "Did you know?"

I nodded once, looking away. The child who had done nothing to be deserving of this fate. In my past life, we had both been killed by Silas and Iris, and in this life, we will be killed again by Marcel and his elders. I brushed a tear from my face angrily.

"Why did you not say anything?" She asked me softly.

"What would it change?" I said. My voice was flat. "Your brother has already decided I am going to die. A baby will not change that."

Jane was quiet for a moment. Then she said, "You do not know my brother."

"I know enough."

"Who is the father?" She asked after a beat.

"My mate," I replied and corrected myself. "My ex-mate."

"The Alpha of the Bloodmoon pack?"

I nodded.

She sat down on the edge of the cot beside me. "Elara," she said quietly. "If the pack learns of this, it will change things. A pregnant Luna is not just a prisoner. She carries a life. Some of the elders would not care. But some would. My brother..." She paused. "Alpha Marcel would have to decide."

  • Rebirth: Abducted by my savage alpha   CHAPTER TWELVE

~ELARA~EVERYTHING HAPPENED SO fast that my fork was still in my hand when Jane pulled me up the stairs. One minute, I had been stuffing food into my mouth as Jane cooed over my sleeping daughter. The next, the door had banged open, and the pack’s elders had come for my head. Then Marcel had moved, and I had not known a man could move like that.“Upstairs,” Bruce said, hurrying after his alpha. “Now, Elara.”Jane did not wait for me to answer. She hustled me up the steps with the baby wailing in her arms, and she put us in a room with a window that looked out over the yard.I looked at the door where Tomas had crashed through, and shivered. I could not see what was going on outside, but I could still hear the sounds of heavy footsteps.I joined Jane upstairs, gratefully. A window faced the yard, and I looked through. My breath caught in my throat as I saw the multitude of people gathered there.Had they all been waiting for this?"Step away from the window," Jane said softly. My baby

  • Rebirth: Abducted by my savage alpha   CHAPTER ELEVEN

~MARCEL~ELARA WAS DISCHARGED ten days after the birth, and I had spent more of those ten days at the medical center than I would ever admit to anyone.I found myself standing at the nursery glass at three in the morning, watching a very small chest rise and fall, watching her get stronger. "She is all set, sir," a nurse said. "Ready to go."I looked up. Elara was in a wheelchair, carrying the baby in her arms. She looked surprised to see me. She must have been expecting Bruce or someone else to come pick her up."Thank you," I smiled tightly as I signed off the documents. The nurse waved at us as I helped Elara into the back seat and pulled out of the parking lot.The car was quiet except for the small, soft sounds of the sleeping baby. I glanced at them via the rear-view mirror. Elara's gaze was pinned outside the window. I swallowed and asked, "Have you thought of a name?"She shook her head. "Not yet...""You should," I muttered, knowing it sounded foolish. After all, her executi

  • Rebirth: Abducted by my savage alpha   CHAPTER TEN

~MARCEL~THE HOSPITAL WAS a small grey building on the edge of the nearest town. I pulled up in front of the doors so hard the car rocked.I approached the desk nurse, who was an elderly Matron."Hello sir, can we help you?" She asked, flashing me a smile.I nodded. "A woman was brought in today. She was going into labor."The smile faded a degree. “Are you family? Her husband?”I began to shake my head but stopped myself. "I am her husband, yes. She was brought here by my sister.""You should have had her registered, sir," the nurse said. "We did not have any antenatal records or anything...""We only just moved into the area," I gave her a tight smile. "It happened by surprise..."“Your name, sir? Her date of birth? Insurance—”Bruce stepped up beside me. “I will handle the forms,” he said, in the calm Beta voice that could talk a river back uphill. He slid a card across the counter, the same company card that owned the land beneath our feet. Then he gestured to me with his head. “

~MARCEL~ "YOU DON'T HAVE to keep on being mean to her," Bruce said as we walked on. I gave my beta a look that said "drop it," and shook my head without responding. The thought had been bugging my mind as her due date drew closer. After her pregnancy, what next? I could see the impatience in the eyes of some of the elders, and I knew they were also counting down to when she gave birth so she could be executed accordingly, but... "You can not kill her," my beast growled. "Not now. Not ever." I chuffed and pushed him to the back of my head. This unreasonable bond he felt to her wolf... Over the past five months, I avoided any contact with Elara Grogel, but I kept my eyes on her. I would watch her from a distance, watching how she moved, how her eyes crinkled at the edges when she smiled. Once I stood behind a woodpile for twenty minutes while she sat on Jane’s porch and laughed at something my sister said, her head thrown back, one hand resting on the curve of her belly,

SIX MONTHS LATER ~ELARA~ THE LAST FEW months went by in a blur since I was pardoned by Marcel. The pack members did not change how they viewed or treated me. I was still a Grogel, their hated enemy—but what changed was the size of my stomach. It had gradually grown bigger, until now it was the size of a watermelon. "The scent of those might end up making you nauseous." A voice called out to me. I was crouched among the herbs behind the cabin, running my thumb over a blossom I could not name, when a voice came from behind me. I turned to see Jane walking towards me. I smiled warmly, but I still plucked the flower I had been caressing. Jane had been my only friend since the day I was abducted. She had taken me in against her brother's wishes, and she was the only person in this pack I could speak to freely. "I will try to keep my meals in my stomach," I smiled back at her as she linked an arm through mine, and we walked out into the street. The pack was settling here in the moun

~MARCEL~“CAN YOU BELIEVE it?” I paced the length of my study. The chair I had kicked lay in pieces against the wall.“You think she might be pregnant,” Bruce said. “Do you know what that means?” i asked.“You can not touch her.” His voice was flat, but his eyes tracked me with interest.I went to the bar and poured a whiskey.“But you are not sure yet,” Bruce said. “All you have is that she vomited on you, and that could be many things. Maybe the cell was just too disgusting.”I snorted into my glass. “I sent her to Jane.”“And if the answer is yes?” He raised an eyebrow.I did not answer because I did not have any answer. Jane came in without knocking. “It is positive,” my twin said. “She is a few weeks along. Our pregnancies run faster than a human’s, so a few months.”“Fuck,” I said under my breath. The next words came out of me low and ugly, before I could stop them. “Is there a way to get rid of it?”Jane frowned in confusion. The color drained from Bruce’s face.“Marcel.” Jane
